SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #21

"And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt, go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:" (Luke 1:76)

THE DIVINITY OF JESUS CHRIST: Inspired by the Holy Ghost, Zachary in his canticle of praise and thanksgiving testifies to the divine nature of the Redeemer. If John was to be the prophet of the "Highest," and to go before the face of the "Lord," then is the Savior of whom this was foretold both Lord and Highest, or, in other words, God.

[From 'A Practical Commentary on Holy Scripture' by Bishop Knecht, D.D.]
