[MaryVitamin] Our Lady of Banneux

Mary Vitamin for January 13th

Topic: Our Lady of Banneux
Feast January 15

" On the evening of Sunday 15 January, 1933, at about seven o'clock, Mariette Beco was in the kitchen with her mother while waiting for her younger brother Julien to arrive home at their house in Banneux, a Belgian village fifty miles north-east of Beauraing. She looked out of the window into the dark night again, to see if he was coming, and was surprised to see a young lady out in the yard, seemingly made of light and smiling at her. Mariette noticed the oval light that surrounded her body; she was bent slightly forward and inclined to the left and was wearing a long white gown with a blue sash, as well as a transparent white veil on her head. Mariette could see a golden rose on her right foot and a rosary with a golden chain and cross hanging on her right arm, which was joined to the left in prayer."

 Quote:
Our Lady of Banneux
"I have come to relieve suffering."
"Pray much."

Meditation:
Our Lady used a rosary to prepare 11 year old Mariette Beco for the grace of conversion. Mariette was basically an unchurched cradle Catholic who stumbled upon a Rosary one day. She was attracted to it and kept it on her person. Our Lady used this sacramental** to prepare Mariette's heart so the she would be the instrument in Our Lady's hand. In 1933 Our Lady visited Mariette eight times in Banneux, Belgium.

The words from the local priest concerning Mariette:
"How this youngster has changed since January 15! Now she was at Mass and catechism every morning. Her schoolwork was beyond reproach, and she bore the taunts of certain unbelievers in the village without the slightest complaint."
Mary Fabyan Windeatt, Our Lady of Banneux,  (Tan Publishers), 26.

Resolution:
Today, I will meditate on the apparition of Our Lady of Banneux and have great hope in Our Lady's intercession. Our Lady said, 'She has come to relieve suffering.'
I will also look for ways to give out rosary beads. I will begin with my own children. I will put an extra rosary in my purse in case I have the chance to give it out.

Marian Vow:
 From the Marian Seraphic Pathways:
"Among the means of the apostolate simplest and most efficacious particular importance should be given to the Miraculous Medal and the Holy Rosary."

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.

** According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
"Sacramentals do not confer the grace of the Holy Spirit in the way that the sacraments do, but by the Church's prayer, they prepare us to receive grace and dispose us to cooperate with it."For well-disposed members of the faithful, the liturgy of the sacraments and sacramentals sanctifies almost every event of their lives with the divine grace which flows from the Paschal mystery of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ. From this source all sacraments and sacramentals draw their power. There is scarcely any proper use of material things which cannot be thus directed toward the sanctification of men and the praise of God."
