Pope Benedict XVI: Dear friends, what immense joy do we have for our mother Mary Immaculate! Whenever we experience our fragility and the suggestion of evil, we can turn to Her, and our heart receives light and comfort.

Thus Benedict XVI spoke yesterday morning before the midday Angelus, of the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrated yesterday urging everyone "in the trials of life that shake one's faith and hope" to think "that we are Her children and that the roots of our existence lie in the infinite grace of God." The Church, the Pope added, although "exposed to the negative influences of the world, always finds in Her the star to guide us and to follow the way shown by Christ", since Mary is the Mother of the Church, as proclaimed by Vatican II. Finally, thanking God for this wonderful sign of his goodness, Benedict XVI entrusted "each of us, our families and communities throughout the Church and the world" to the Immaculate Virgin.
