More than 4,600 people impacted by the Gulf oil spill have received assistance through Catholic Charities since May 1, the Archdiocese of New Orleans said today.

The archdiocese said more than 1,382 families have received emergency assistance from Catholic Charities related to the oil spill. It said $50,500 in gift cards and/or food vouchers have been distributed and that 647 emergency food boxes from Second Harvest Food Bank, along with 168 cans of baby formula, have been handed out. Seventy six boxes of baby diapers, as well as 174 packs of diapers, have also been distributed.

So far, 385 people have undergone mental health assessments. Also, 164 people have received individual counseling and 28 have taken part in group counseling with Catholic Charities crisis counselors, the archdiocese news release said.

0 Lady of Mental Peace, Mother of Tranquility and Mother of Hope, look upon me in this time of my weakness and unrest.  Teach my searching heart to know that God's Love for me is unchanging and unchangeable; and, that true human love can only begin and grow by touching His Love.  Let your gentle Peace which this world cannot give be always with me.  And, help me to bring this same Peace into the lives of others.  Our Lady of Mental Peace, - Pray for us
