[MaryVitamin] Mother of Poverty

Mary Vitamin for August 25th

Topic: Mother of the Truly Poor

Our Lady of Banneux, Virgin of the poor
Quote:
Several celebrated Doctors remark that the Divine Majesty has confined within the five letters of the glorious name of Mary, the rarest of ornaments. The first letter M signifies that Mary is Mother of God, Mother of all Christians, Mother of the truly poor, of orphans, Mother of love and grace and mercy, and Mediatrix between God and man.
St. John Eudes, The Wondrous Childhood of the Most Holy Mother of God, 136.

Meditation:
To reflect on the title Mother of the truly poor here are some words from Mother Teresa on practicing poverty:

If you have to sleep in a corner where there is no breeze, do not gasp and pant to show how much you feel it. In these little things, you can practice poverty. Poverty makes us free. That is why we can joke and smile and have a happy heart for Jesus.
Angelo D. Scolozzi, M.C. III. O, ed., Thirsting for God, 127.

Resolution:
I will try to not complain about the weather today as a small way to practice poverty. I will also consider this a way to practice putting up with surprise annoyances.   I will call upon my Mother help me keep this resolution.

Marian Vow:
St. Maximilian Kolbe
He who is dedicated to her in total surrender has attained holiness already. And the more perfectly one allows her to lead one in interior (spiritual) and exterior (external activity) life, the more one shares in her holiness. Therefore, in order to imitate her, as she did Christ, and imitate our holy Father Francis, as he imitated Christ, the members of Niepokalanow limit their personal needs to bare necessities only, seeking neither comfort nor pleasure.
Fr. Anselm W. Romb, OFM Conv., ed, The Kolbe Reader, 62.
Marytown Press

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.
