[MaryVitamin] Our Lady of Knock Feast Day

Mary Vitamin

Topic: Our Lady of Knock
Feast Day August 21

Quote:
The apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary at KnockIreland, was one not of words, but of silence. Here, the Mother of Christ appeared in prayerful contemplation with St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist.
Kevin J. Wright, Catholic Shrines of Western Europe, (Ligouri: 1997), 120.

Meditation:
St. Joseph Marello's bishop, Bishop Savio, gave the Saint this advice:
Silence is neither muteness nor interior emptiness nor the incapacity for communication. It is a spiritual experience, which is realized through success in holding worldly hubbub at a distance and making room for God's Word. Silence can be made anywhere. It consists in listening, more than in being quiet. It is through this eager attentiveness to hear that the soul perceives voices and messages from the Infinite, and pastures and drinks from them so as to climb mystically on high to the first fount, as well as to come down to earthly realities and stimulate action.
Giovanni Sisto,  I the Undersigned Poor Sinner, The Life of [Saint] Joseph Marello, (Guardian of the Redeemer Books: 1985), 64.

Resolution:
In honor of Our Lady of Knock I will try to practice silence today. With every petition I make in prayer to God, I will also pause to listen to God. In conversations today, I will concentrate on becoming the person who listens.
I will practice having "silence anywhere" by making room for God's Word in my heart by reading today's Gospel and keeping the key words of Christ in my heart during the noisy day.

Marian Vow:
[T]he penances of fasting and abstinence, of silence and obscurity, of prayer vigils and the renunciation of vanities and entertainments, trips, worldly spectacles, superfluous vacations - after the example of the Immaculate - cannot be missing in him or her who with the Marian Vow ought to realize in oneself "the being" of the Immaculate that is all grace and the "work" of the Mediatrix that is all salvation for others.
Marian Seraphic Pathways, Directory #25

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.
