Thank you, Father, for life!

St. Teresa of Jesus (of Avila)

Dear Family of Mary!

"Therefore pray, live my messages, and then you will see the miracle of God's love in your daily life." (March 25, 1992)

I am very tired as I write tonight.  The past few weeks have been very intense.  Mary TV has been moving offices!  We finished up today with a big truck going to the dump!  What a relief!  It seems that Our Lady is getting us ready for new things and she needs us to be streamlined and ready to go.

Let me just make a couple of observations about the Chilean mining rescue.  Many of you have written to remind me that the collapse of the mine happened on August 5.  This is the actual birthday of Our Lady, according to the Medjugorje visionaries. It would seem that Our Lady had her hands around the miners from the very beginning to the end!  Her motherly care was evident throughout this ordeal.

Also, the drilling company that found the way to make the narrow shaft that was used to rescue the miners is owned by a Catholic man, Greg Hall, from Texas.  As he observed the plight of the Chilean miners, he realized that he might be able to drill the shaft through which they could be rescued, though all the experts were certain it was impossible.  He offered his services, and succeeded.  This man is studying to be a deacon in the Catholic Church, and prays morning and night with his wife.  A sign again of Our Lady's hand.  (You can read about Greg at this link:  http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/mastermind-of-chilean-miner-rescue-training-to-become-deacon-next-year/)

The news coverage that I was able to access never once mentioned the faith of the people of Chile or the miners or the families.  The whole idea of prayer and faith was completely sidestepped, at least by the BBC.  But, after they made contact with the people on top, the miners all requested medals, statues and pictures of the Lord, Our Lady, and the saints.  They made a shrine underground and prayed together every day.  The whole rescue mission was dedicated to St. Lorenzo, the patron of miners.  You can read about this at this link: http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/commentandblogs/2010/10/13/it-was-surely-praying-at-their-%E2%80%98makeshift-shrine%E2%80%99-that-kept-the-chilean-miners-sane/

I would also like to make one last observation.  If we ponder the situation that the miners were in, we realize how very dependent they were for life.  For 17 days they had very little to eat, and no assurance of survival.  Their entire lives were in the hands of God.  And after the supply shafts were completed, they were completely dependent upon the rescue teams for food, water, clothing, news, and communications with their families.  They were in the hands of the people up top in a very real way.  They were dependent completely on the good will and the expertise of the rescuers.  They now know what it means to be dependent on God and others for life.  This knowledge will certainly change the men.  I hope it also changes us, because it is the same for us.  We are totally dependent upon God, our Father, for everything. The sun that gives us life could stop shining at one little word from the Lord.  The world we live on could stop spinning, change course, or just go off into the universe, if the Lord did not maintain it.  The atmosphere we breathe and rely on could fail.  The water we need for everything could dry up.  The elements could change.  On and on it goes.  We are totally dependent upon God for our existence.  If we truly know this in our hearts, we will never stop rejoicing at such a generous and loving Father who sustains us each day.  If we realize He is our life, we will turn to Him at every moment and thank Him for what He has given us and ask Him for what we need without fear!  We need God!  We depend upon Him.  He is our life.

Just a thought!

You all give me hope.  I love writing to you each day.  I feel Our Lady's love for each of you as I do it.  May we all join together in these days like the miners in Chile, and give thanks to God who has saved us and is bringing us home to Himself.  We are the most blessed of children!

In Jesus and Mary!
