28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

2 Kings 5:14-17

2 Timothy 2:8-13

Luke 17:11-19

The importance of giving thanks is one of the quick morals often drawn from the story of the healing of the 10 lepers. While that theme is found in the story, there are also deeper realities at play. The ten lepers are a group of enemies (Jews and a Samaritan) who are brought together by their common malady, for leprosy makes them all outcasts. Luke points out that it is the foreigner — the Samaritan — who returns to give thanks. Jesus’ response to him is, “Your faith has saved you.”

Those of us who have had the faith from the beginning of our lives may, at times, take it for granted. Those who come to faith through the preaching of the Gospel sometimes have a deeper appreciation of the gift that faith in God is. And with any gift, greater joy comes when we share it!

Suggested Missionary Action: This week, tell one person what your faith has meant to you at some important – or ordinary – moment in your life.

Please no anonymous comments. I require at least some way for people to address each other personally and courteously. Having some name or handle helps.
