Saint Leo the Great

Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! With motherly perseverance and love I am bringing you the light of life to destroy the darkness of death in you. Do not reject me, my children. Stop and look within yourselves and see how sinful you are. Be aware of your sins and pray for forgiveness. My children, you do not desire to accept that you are weak and little, but you can be strong and great by doing God's will. Give me your cleansed hearts that I may illuminate them with the light of life, my Son. Thank you." (November 2, 2010)

Our Lady tells us she is bringing us the Light of Life to destroy the darkness of death in us.

She wants to illuminate our hearts with the Light of Life, her Son, Jesus!
Light!  We need it so badly.  We live in a world much like a dark room.  There may be furniture, there may be pictures on the walls, there may be other people, but without light we cannot see any of it.  We exist in the darkness as if alone.  Our hearts can be those dark rooms, where we feel so very alone, so unable to see anything.  The darkness is the consequence of sins, our sins and those of our parents and family members and the people in our lives.  Sin darkens our hearts and creates an intense loneliness in us.  We can't see anyone or anything.

Mother Mary wants us to see.  She wants us to perceive our lives in terms of eternity and the grace that Jesus has won for us.  We have hope.  We have a future.  We have the possibility to love.  All of this can be seen only when Jesus comes into our lives as our Savior.

Again, as I was reading little Saint Therese, I came upon something she said about light, and about Jesus.  It seems to fit with Our Lady's desire to bring us the Light of Life:

"Whenever I open a book, no matter how beautiful or touching, my heart dries up and I can understand nothing of what I read; or if I do understand, my mind will go no further, and I cannot meditate.  I am rescued from this helpless state by the Scriptures and the Imitation, finding in them a hidden manna, pure and substantial; but during meditation I am sustained above all else by the Gospels.  They supply my poor soul's every need, and they are always yielding up to me new lights and mysterious hidden meanings.  I know from experience that 'the Kingdom of God is within us' (Luke 17:21), and that Jesus has no need of books or doctors to instruct our soul; He, the Doctor of Doctors, teaches us without the sound of words.  I have never heard Him speak, and yet I know He is within my soul.  Every moment He is guiding and inspiring me, and just at the moment I need them, 'lights' till then unseen are granted me.  Most often it is not at prayer that they come but while I go about my daily duties." (The Story of a Soul, VIII, 105)

St. Therese received "light" both from the Gospels and from Jesus, Himself, dwelling within her.  In both cases, this light gave her the ability to see things in a new and wonderful way, so that her life was changed by it.  She was "enlightened" by the graces she received from Jesus and His Word, and she experienced this "light" in her daily life.  It made sense out of things that she would otherwise have not understood.  She saw things that before were hidden in darkness.  This is the Light of Life that Our Lady is offering to us!  Jesus, her Son!

We need the Light of Jesus to come into our lives and show us the beauty that is there, the good that God has designed for us, the love that is possible between us.  We need Jesus' light to shine in us so that we begin to know who we are, and how much we are loved.  We need to see the opportunities in our lives to give, to sacrifice, to enjoy and to bless.  These things may be hidden from us now, in the darkness.  But they are there, and with Jesus in us, we can learn to see them and rejoice!  God is love, and we are called to be love as well.  With the Light of Jesus, we can learn just how and who to love!  It is such a joy!

Thank you, dear Mother, for coming to bring us this wonderful Light.  We want to be filled with it!

In Jesus and Mary!
