Christmas decorations banned at Florida's Turnpike toll booths

While many in Central Florida are spreading holiday cheer, one government agency has banned it: The Florida Turnpike.

Holiday decorations of any kind have been banned from all toll booths along the 460 miles of toll highways run by the Florida Turnpike Enterprise, which is part of the Florida Department of Transportation, a local spokeswoman said.

The ban was put in place several months ago after some motorists complained about decorations.

"Some Christian organizations complained about Halloween decorations," said spokeswoman Christa Deason.

Turnpike leaders have now decided to ban holiday decorations of any kind, she said. The Florida Turnpike does not spend any money on decorations for any holiday.

Deason added that while contracted toll booth workers are free to celebrate holidays of their choice, they should not do so inside the shared booths.

"The toll booth is not the appropriate place" for celebrating, Deason said.

Looks like Scrooge is retired in Florida and has decided to work up a few nasty schemes before he kicks the bucket! It's pretty sad when the spirit of the Christmas season is denied for everyone to see. Bah! Hum-burg! That's all folks! It's all Loony Tunes to me! I moved to Florida to be free from Government regulations and slowly this state is getting to be like the rest of the USA! I shouldn't say this too loudly but our town here has decorated all the City building and main street with Christmas decorations. A big Thank you to the City of Tavares!
