Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! You are absorbed with material things, but in the material you lose everything that God wishes to give you. I call you, dear children, to pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit which are necessary for you now in order to be able to give witness to my presence here and to all that I am giving you. Dear children, let go to me so I can lead you completely. Don't be absorbed with material things. Thank you for having responded to my call." (April 17, 1986)

We reflect on the poverty of Jesus and Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem and we look for the example we are given in their situation.  Our Lady has spoken often about materialism and consumerism, warning us of the danger present in these attitudes.  She turns our eyes towards God, hoping that our hearts and desires will follow.  It is not "stuff" that will make us happy, but God and only God.  The joy and peace present in that poor stable on Christmas night was not a heroic act on the part of the Holy Family.  That joy came from the presence of God!  Only God can give true joy!

May we follow Our Lady's lead, and pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit this Christmas. These gifts draw us into the presence of God, into the heart of Jesus.  They are the gifts we should long for under our tree!

SEVENTH DAY:   DECEMBER 22

O Divine Word, Who for the love of us, Your poor creatures, were pleased to be born under the most lowly roof, to be wrapped in the meanest swaddling- bands, and to be laid in a vile manger, among beasts, and to suffer a thousand evils. 0 grant that we also may renounce all worldly vanities, and embrace poverty of spirit, and mortification of the flesh, so necessary for our perfection. Grant that we may be thoroughly detached from creatures and poor in all things save in Your love and Your grace.

Our Father... Hail Mary...Glory be...

HAIL AND BLESSED be the hour and the moment in which the Son of God was born of the Most Pure Blessed Virgin Mary at midnight in Bethlehem in the piercing cold: In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my petitions, through the merits of Jesus Christ Our Lord.

In Jesus and Mary!
