Pope Expresses Solidarity with the Eastern Churches

07/01/2011 (0:53)

"The Epiphany announces the opening of the Universal Church, her call to evangelize all nations",  the Pope said before the Angelus on Thursday. The Holy Father recalled the Eastern Churches who celebrated Christmas the following day. The goodness of God, said the Pope, appeared in Jesus Christ to give comfort to the communities in difficulty. After the Angelus the Pope said that the Epiphany is Children's Mission Day, proposed by the Pontifical Society of Holy Childhood. Many children and teens, in parishes and schools, form a spiritual network of solidarity and help young people in difficulty. "It is very beautiful and important that children grow up with an open mind in the world with feelings of love and brotherhood, overcoming self-centeredness and consumerism," said Pope Benedict.
