The Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Dear Family of Mary!

"Little children, do not forget that I love you with a tender love."

(February 25, 2005)

"You know, dear children, that I love you immeasurably, and I pray daily that the Lord will help you understand the love which I am showing you."

(August 21, 1986)

Our Mother, Mary, loves us with her incredible heart of love. She loves each one of us and watches over us with maternal solicitude. By that I mean that she can't take her eyes off of us and she is interested in the tiniest details of our lives.

I was holding my 2 ½ month old grand-daughter yesterday while her mommy was at her big brother's football game. She is so soft, so warm, so dependent, so vulnerable, and so sweet, that I could not put her down, much less take my eyes off of her. She is a living magnet!

If I, with my very limited capacity for love, could be so drawn in by little Emelia, think of the draw that is generated in the heart of Mary for her children! She is attracted to us by the strongest of loves! It should make us rejoice!

On the flip side, we are also attracted to Mary, our Mother, with a very strong attraction. When we are in danger or difficulty, it is to Mary that we turn immediately for help. All children cry out for their mother when they are in need, and we are no different!

Andre Frossard, in his book, Portrait of John Paul , notes that on May 13, 1981, after being shot, "as he was being rushed to the hospital, John Paul II said, more and more feebly as the moments passed only Our Lady's name, Mary..." (p. 55). It was to Mary that Blessed John Paul II turned in his hour of need, and her name was on his lips.

St. Bernard encouraged dependence upon Our Lady in this way: "In dangers, in perplexities, in doubtful cases, think of Mary, call on Mary; let her not leave thy lips; let her not depart from thy heart." (http://www.themostholyrosary.com/appendix8.htm )

The Name of Mary is given to us as a strong defense and help. She has told us that she loves us with an incredible love, a love that is tender, a love that is immeasurable. We can therefore depend upon her as a child depends upon his mother, and we can call on her name.   She has given it to us by virtue of the love she bestows on us. We happy children can call on Mary with confidence and trust. Like our Blessed John Paul II, we can repeat her name over and over, knowing that she will come, she will be with us, she will protect us and help us in our need.

Come, Mother Mary, come! We love you and need you.

In Jesus and Mary!
