Not Just Raphael.

 The Humble Madonnas Who Have Won the Crown

On exhibit in New Haven, the images of Mary from a hundred shrines of Europe and America. Venerated for centuries, dispensers of graces, and crowned by the Vatican for this. Meanwhile, in Germany, an even more famous Madonna precedes the pope's arrival

ROME, September 8, 2011 – A few days before his third voyage to Germany, Benedict XVI has given his compatriots a great gift. He has authorized the sending to Dresden of a masterpiece by Raphael that has never before left the Vatican Museums: the "Madonna of Foligno."
