TAKE FIVE FOR FAITH: Daily renewal for busy Catholics 12/16/2011

Citing of the Week

"Planning best starts with a reflection on the gifts and strengths we find in a situation, not the problems that must be resolved."

ADVENT WEEKDAY

No batteries required to be a true Christmas light
There is no doubt that while Christmas is a Christian feast and the holiday has touched the world, sometimes it feels more like an ever-expanding brand than a gift. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if each LED light (sold in packages of 50 for only $6.95!) were actually displayed to glow in praise of a loving, incarnate God rather than to win the prize for who has used the most electricity on the block? But while we regret the commercialization of the holiday, it’s important to take right steps at home, as Catholic Christian families, to abandon materialism for the sake of the environment—our Christian environment.

TODAY’S READINGS: Isaiah 56:1-3a, 6-8; John 5:33-36 (191)
“Observe what is right, do what is just.”
