CMMB: Your Weekly Reflection in Prayer 3/11/2012

Weekly prayer reflection for Winter

“We preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and an absurdity to Gentiles; but to those who are called, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.”

1 Corinthians 1: 23-24

Third Sunday of Lent
Dear John,
The cross is not an end in itself. Rather, the cross is the way, the only way to the Risen life.  The cross enters into our lives in various forms.   I see two key ways, namely the cross that we freely choose, and more often, the cross that is imposed upon us.  The cross we choose is the suffering, the expending of time and energy to reach out to a friend, a child, a neighbor in need, and spend time with them.   The cross imposed on us could be sickness, an accident, the infirmities of old age, or unemployment.
Per crucem ad lucem” or “Through the cross to the light.” Yes, whether imposed or freely chosen, the only way to salvation is through the cross of Jesus Christ.

Evangelismclass

May the cross of the Son of God, mightier than all the hosts of Satan and more glorious than all the hosts of heaven, abide with you in your going out and your coming in. By day and night, at all times and in all places may it protect and defend you from the wrath of evildoers, from the assaults of evil spirits, from the snares of the devil, from all passions that beguile soul and body, may it guard, protect and deliver you.
Amen
