The Most Holy Name of Mary!

Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children, as my eyes are looking at you, my soul is seeking those souls with whom it desires to be one - the souls who have understood the importance of prayer for those of my children who have not come to know the love of the Heavenly Father. I am calling you because I need you. Accept the mission and do not be afraid, I will strengthen you. I will fill you with my graces. With my love I will protect you from the evil spirit. I will be with you. With my presence I will console you in difficult moments. Thank you for your open hearts. Pray for priests. Pray that the unity between my Son and them may be all the stronger, that they may be one. Thank you." (September 2, 2012)

Today we celebrate the Most Holy Name of Mary according to the Liturgical Calendar. As I thought about the Name of Mary, I was struck with how many times we say her name in a day. In every Hail Mary, her name is reverently and earnestly called upon. We echo the greeting that the Angel Gabriel gave to her on the day our salvation was secured, the day of the Annunciation! Hail Mary!!! We remember with awe that day when Jesus became man, entered our reality to save us from our sins, and took up our humanity to glorify it. Hail Mary!!!

But for me it doesn't stop there. Every morning, I call upon Our Lady, "Mother come, Mary come!" Almost at every turn in my day I have recourse to her help, her intercession, often just uttering "Mary" in a plea for help. Her beautiful name fills me with peace and hope at every challenge.

Book

Father Peter John Cameron, O.P., wrote a book called "Mysteries of the Virgin Mary: Living Our Lady's Graces" in 2010. (Available from Servant Books,www.servantbooks.org ) In it he writes:

The true greatness of the Holy Name of Mary is its instrumentality in our salvation. "Just as the salvation of the world began with the Hail Mary," explains Saint Louis de Montfort, "so the salvation of each individual is bound up with it." For just as the utterance of this Name "brought to a dry and barren world the Fruit of Life," so, too, will reverently pronouncing the Holy Name of Mary in prayer "cause the Word of God to take root in the soul and bring forth Jesus, the Fruit of Life...The Hail Mary is a heavenly dew which waters the earth of our soul and makes it bear its fruit in due season."

Well said, indeed! Our relationship with Mary leads us to Jesus and to salvation. She brought Jesus to us at the Annunciation, and now she brings us to Jesus when we call upon her! Mary, we need you!
