Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! I wish to call you to a living of the Holy Mass. There are many of you who have sensed the beauty of the Holy Mass, but there are also those who come unwillingly. I have chosen you, dear children, but Jesus gives you His graces in the Mass. Therefore, consciously live the holy Mass and let your coming to it be a joyful one. Come to it with love and make the Mass your own. Thank you for having responded to my call." (April 3, 1986)

Tomorrow Ivan will visit St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. There will be testimonies from various people who have been blessed, healed and converted by Our Lady of Medjugorje. Ivan will share his own testimony of the first days of Our Lady's coming, and his understanding of the main messages. Then the Holy Rosary will be prayed by everyone present in the Cathedral. After that, Our Lady will appear to Ivan, and bless everyone present with her special motherly blessings.  Wow!!!

What a powerful evening of grace! We are awaiting Our Lady's apparition with great joy! But the sum total of these presentations and prayers, and even the apparition itself, is nothing compared to what will come next. After the sharings, the Rosary, and the apparition, will come the celebration of Holy Mass! Holy Mass! All power in heaven and earth is concentrated in one Holy Mass. Jesus' redeeming act of self-gift will be re-presented at the Holy Mass. And all the graces that Jesus unleashed upon the earth will come flowing down upon those present. Nothing is more powerful than one Holy Mass!!

Just as we will experience the apparition of Our Lady tomorrow over the internet, all of us who will be present over the internet can make a spiritual communion during that Holy Mass. We can connect with the Lord through our desire and our union of prayer. It will be a powerful moment, indeed!!

Fr. Slavko Barbaric wrote about the April 3, 1986 message (above) in his book, Celebrate Mass With Your Heart. He wrote:

To experience Holy Mass is the most important advice and the most invigorating invitation contained in the above message. To experience Holy Mass is therefore a heartfelt extension of one's attendance at Mass, something of extraordinary importance and validity for Christina life. When Mass and the liturgical celebration are not experienced, or extended in communion or adoration, the Christian is in very serious danger. Sometimes there have been cases of spiritual dejection, where there is no longer any life left. On this extension of the experience depends the enthusiasm and zeal with which people will go to Mass.

When Mass is properly prepared for and celebrated, when the liturgical encounter is experienced, when there is time for God's Word, when we pray and remain in silence, and when we sing with our hearts, then Mass will be experienced! It will be life and spiritual progress for all believers, and will attract even those who have grown lazy, the weak and the unsure! It will open the eyes of nonbelievers so that they will be able to see what happens during Mass. To experience Holy Mass is a favor we can ask of God. This is why there must always be preparation for the liturgical celebration and gratitude for the Mass. We can never be too grateful.

The beauty of Holy Mass is that it is the living sacrifice of Christ's love, of Him who gave Himself for us. Every time we are present and intend to celebrate Mass, it is essential to say and to realize that there is someone who loves us so much that He is always and continuously ready to give himself to us, unconditionally and unselfishly.

The beauty is that God is ready to forgive and to show mercy, and to feed the soul and the body. Feeling such beauty means we enter profoundly into the mystery of Divine Love, and try continuously every day to live with this love, and to give an answer to everyone with the example of our lives. (Fr. Slavko Barbaric, O.F.M. Celebrate Mass with Your Heart. Faith Publishing, p.45-46)

As Fr. Slavko says, Our Lady invites us to experience Holy Mass. And this can only happen if we prepare for Mass, take time during Holy Mass to ponder the word, be silent, sing with all our hearts, adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, receive Him reverently, and then take a long time afterward, giving thanks and just resting with Him. Holy Mass is an entire world of grace, of joy, of healing and of sustenance. But we can run the danger of leaving Holy Mass totally unfed, unhealed, untouched. If we do not open our hearts to experience Holy Mass, the graces will not enter them. And we can even be in danger of losing what life we have, if we go un-nourished for too long, not recognizing the graces we need and that are present for us at Holy Mass.

So, let's ask Our Lady to help us respond to Holy Mass with open and grateful hearts, understanding the incredible power that awaits us there. And tomorrow, may Holy Mass be the center of the event in Vienna! (Not to downplay the importance of Our Lady's coming!! We are so excited about that as well!!)

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
