MaryVitamin: Holy Name of Mary
Mary Vitamin for September 13th
Topic: Holy Name of Mary
St. Anthony of Padua
"O name of Mary! Joy in the heart, honey in the mouth, melody to the ear of her devout clients."
St. Alphonsus di Liguori, The Glories of Mary, (Tan Books: 1978), 235.
St. Alphonsus di Liguori
"We gather from the sacred Canticles, that on the Assumption of our Blessed Lady, the angels asked her name three times. 'Who is she that goeth up by the desert as a pillar of smoke? [Canticles 3:6] again, ‘Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising? [Canticles 6:9] and again, ‘Who is this that cometh up from the desert, flowing with delights? [Canticles 8:5] And why,' says Richard of Saint Lawrence, 'do the angels so often ask the name of their Queen?' He answers, 'that it was so sweet even to the angels to hear it pronounced, that they desired to hear that sweet name in reply.'"(235)
When I pass my religious image of Our Lady today, I will think of the angels as thedevout clients of Mary who delight in her Holy Name.
Why do the angels delight in the holy name of Mary? The angelic spirits understand the magnificence of the Incarnation. The angels understand better the meaning and the sublime beauty of the Pure, Uncreated Spirit (God) taking on human flesh through the cooperation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Thanks be to God for graces received.
