[video] Benedict XVI: Vatican II renewed Marian devotion

In his speech to participants at the XXIII International Mariological Congress, Benedict XVI highlighted the importance of the figure of Mary in the context of the imminent Year of Faith. He recalled that the debate at the Second Vatican Council, in which he participated as a theologian, ended with the decision to include a chapter on Mary in the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church. Mary, the Pope pointed out, is understood as part of the Trinitarian mystery of love and communion. Her cooperation in the Divine plan of salvation and unique mediation of Christ is clearly stated and placed in the proper perspective, making her a model and a point of reference for the Church, which recognizes itself, its mission in Mary
