Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children: I am calling you and I am coming among you because I need you..."   (October 2, 2012)

I did a quick survey of Our Lady's messages from Medjugorje through the years to see how many times she has told us that she needs us. I actually could not find many messages in which she said that she needed us.

"... My children, you be my apostles, be my river of love. I need you. Thank you." (March 18, 2009)

"... I am with you and I intercede for you with God, that He protect you. But I need your prayers and your - "Yes..." (February 25, 1992)

"Dear children, I need you. I call you and ask for your help. Make peace with yourselves, with God and with your neighbors. Then help me. Convert unbelievers. Wipe the tears from my face." (November 2, 2004)

"Dear children! I am calling you because I need you. I need hearts ready for immeasurable love. Hearts that are not burdened by vanity. Hearts that are ready to love as my Son loved, that are ready to sacrifice themselves as my Son sacrificed Himself. I need you..." (July 2, 2009)

"... I am calling you because I need you. Accept the mission and do not be afraid, I will strengthen you. I will fill you with my graces. With my love I will protect you from the evil spirit. I will be with you. With my presence I will console you in difficult moments..." (September 02, 2012)

I know this is a bit tedious. It is the researcher in me I guess. But I find it very interesting to listen to what Our Lady says about needing us. She says that she needs us to be a river of love; she needs our prayers and our "yes"; she desperately needs our help in making peace by forgiving our enemies; she needs us to be ready for immeasurable love; and that she is calling us because she needs us. These messages are mostly recent ones, given in these latter days of the apparitions in Medjugorje. Our Lady has been with us for all these years, because we needed her. But now it seems that she really needs us as well. She needs us to become her apostles of love.

Why does Our Lady need us? We might ask this question because it seems that she is just fine in heaven, that she has all she needs and is in God's presence. Well, she doesn't need us for herself, she needs us to help her reach all of her other children. She needs the family to pull together and help each other!

St. Louis de Montfort wrote a telling prophesy of how Our Lady would need her chosen children in the latter days:

But the power of Mary over all the devils will especially shine forth in the latter times, when Satan will lay his snares against her heel: that is to say, her humble slaves and her poor children, whom she will raise up to make war against him. They shall be little and poor in the world's esteem, and abased before all like the heel, trodden underfoot and persecuted as the heel is by the other members of the body. But in return for this they shall be rich in the grace of God, which Mary shall distribute to them abundantly. They shall be great and exalted before God in sanctity, superior to all other creatures by their lively zeal, and so well sustained with God's assistance that, with the humility of their heel, in union with Mary, they shall crush the head of the devil and cause Jesus Christ to triumph. (n 54. True Devotion to Mary)

Doesn't this sound so much like those who have drawn close to Our Lady of Medjugorje? Aren't we the needy ones of the world, the lowly ones, the last ones? And haven't we been given so many graces and blessings that we can hardly count them all? I see the incredible zeal that St. Louis describes very evident in the prayer of the pilgrims every night at the International Mass at St. James. It is such a response to Our Lady's call!

Our Lady needs us. Our Lady needs us to remain with her, not as big important people, but as little ones, humble, lowly, forgotten, weak, and vulnerable. She needs our humility and littleness, because only then will we be useful in crushing the head of satan. She was so lowly, so small when the Angel Gabriel came to her that she could say "yes" and give her entire self over to God's plan. It was her littleness that made her "yes" so complete. She now needs us to be little, like her, so that our "yes" will be complete and we will be used by God to crush the enemy. Satan always underestimates the power of humility. It is his undoing.

These are the days of the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart. We are being called to join together as the heel of Mary. She needs us!
