Dear Family of Mary!

I asked Our Lady for a message for us today and pulled this one from our box of messages:

"Dear children! Today I am with you in a special way, holding little Jesus in my lap and I invite you, little children, to open yourselves to His call. He calls you to joy. Little children, joyfully live the messages of the Gospel, which I am repeating in the time since I am with you. Little children, I am your Mother, and I desire to reveal to you the God of love and the God of peace. I do not desire for your life to be in sadness but that it be realized in joy for eternity, according to the Gospel. Only in that way will your life have meaning. Thank you for having responded to my call." (December 25, 1996)

I think Our Lady is speaking to our email group with this message. She is calling us to joy.

On this Christmas day in 1996, Our Lady came with Baby Jesus on her lap. She came holding little Jesus so that His presence could permeate us. He was calling us that day. And that call was to joy!

Think about it. Who can look a little baby in the face and not smile? Who can encounter a little one and not be filled with the joy of that precious little being, so innocent and so full of openness and love? (Note the picture of our granddaughter, Susanna, who is 1 year old next week. Isn't she something!) Our Lady brought little Jesus, so that we could fall in love with Him as a baby, as a little bundle of joy. She knows that little Jesus can bring a smile to any and every one!

And she wants us to renew that joy today, by contemplating the reality of Baby Jesus. Our Savior and Lord came as a little baby. Jesus, fully God and fully man, came to share our life with us. He came to reveal to us His Father, who is the God of love and the God of peace. He came to give us life, and that we live not in sadness but in joy! This is Jesus' message to us in the Gospel. We are God's children, and we are destined for eternal joy if we choose to say "yes", and accept our loving Father's call. This is the joy of the Gospel.

So, this weekend, let's contemplate the reality of Baby Jesus, and spend time gazing upon His little, beautiful, clear and innocent countenance. It will fill us with the power and joy of life.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
