"Honor crimes" caused the death of about a thousand women in 2012

ASIA/PAKISTAN -

Islamabad (Agenzia Fides) - Terrorist attacks, acts of violence against the different sectors of Pakistani society, violation of human rights, particularly of women and children, continue to increase the violence in the Asian country. A recent report released by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) shows that in 2012 almost a thousand women died, including children, because of the so-called "honor crimes", almost always committed by family members. It is suspected that the number of victims could be higher. More than 600 women were executed on charges, without any evidence, of adultery, and nearly 200 were killed for marrying without family approval. The document examines in depth the situation of human rights in the country and violations as forced disappearances of people at the hands of security agencies or violence against religious minorities.
