Consecration Day 17

Dear Family of Mary!

Still in Week One, we contemplate the end of our temporal life, hoping to use this reality as leverage! We want to seek God and do His will with much more zeal. Thinking about our final judgment can give us a holy "fear" of God and a much more honest assessment of our own merit.

Imitation of Christ: Book 1, Chapter 24
Of Judgment, and the Punishment of Sinners In all things look to the end; and how you will stand before that strict Judge (Heb. 10:31) to whom nothing is hidden, who is not appeased with gifts, nor admits excuses, but will judge according to right. O wretched and foolish sinners, who sometimes are in terror at the countenance of an angry man, what answer wilt you make to God who knows all your wickedness (Job 9:2)! Why do you not provide for yourself (Luke 16:9) against the day of judgment, when no man can be excused or defended by another, but every one shall be a sufficient burden for himself!

Luke 16:1-8
The Crafty Steward
He also said to the disciples, "There was a rich man who had a steward, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his goods. And he called him and said to him, `What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.' And the steward said to himself, `What shall I do, since my master is taking the stewardship away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. I have decided what to do, so that people may receive me into their houses when I am put out of the stewardship.' So, summoning his master's debtors one by one, he said to the first, `How much do you owe my master?' He said, `A hundred measures of oil.' And he said to him, `Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.' Then he said to another, `And how much do you owe?' He said, `A hundred measures of wheat.' He said to him, `Take your bill, and write eighty.' The master commended the dishonest steward for his shrewdness; for the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light.

I have never understood this crafty steward, or why Jesus would make him an example for us. But somehow putting this scripture in context with my own personal judgment, it begins to make more sense. If I knew that tomorrow I would die, I would move quickly to set as much right with God as I could. I would ask my family and friends to forgive me for any sins or harm I may have done to them. I would try to make things right as best I could. There would be a sense of urgency. Now or never! Like the steward, I would try to cut my losses!

Our Lady spoke to us about our end, and what we will do when we meet the Lord at death. Here is her advice:

April 02, 2013 "Dear children, I am calling you to be one with my Son in spirit. I am calling you, through prayer, and the Holy Mass when my Son unites Himself with you in a special way, to try to be like Him; that, like Him, you may always be ready to carry out God's will and not seek the fulfillment of your own. Because, my children, it is according to God's will that you are and that you exist, and without God's will you are nothing. As a mother I am asking you to speak about the glory of God with your life because, in that way, you will also glorify yourself in accordance to His will. Show humility and love for your neighbour to everyone. Through such humility and love, my Son saved you and opened the way for you to the Heavenly Father. I implore you to keep opening the way to the Heavenly Father for all those who have not come to know Him and have not opened their hearts to His love. By your life, open the way to all those who still wander in search of the truth. My children, be my apostles who have not lived in vain. Do not forget that you will come before the Heavenly Father and tell Him about yourself. Be ready! Again I am warning you, pray for those whom my Son called, whose hands He blessed and whom He gave as a gift to you. Pray, pray, pray for your shepherds. Thank you."

We will have to tell the heavenly Father about ourselves. Our whole life will pass before us, and we will have to talk to the Father about our choices. It will be inescapable and stark. Like the steward, we may want to prepare for that moment ahead of time!

Mirjana shared about an experience of the afterlife that Our Lady gave to her in this way:

Monday, January 10, 1983
Confidences from Mirjana to Fr. Tomislav Vlasic: During the 18 months that I saw the Gospa, a great intimacy was established between us. I felt her maternal love. I could ask her all kinds of questions. Thus I asked her why God was so merciless in sending sinners to Hell for eternity. "Men who go to Hell no longer want to receive any benefit from God. They do not repent nor do they cease to swear and to blaspheme. They make up their mind to live in Hell and do not at all contemplate leaving it."  (Man's refusal is an irreversible choice.)

Questioned on the subject of Purgatory, the Blessed Virgin says:
"There are different levels of which the lowest are close to Hell and the highest gradually draw near to Heaven. It is not on all souls day, but at Christmas, that the greatest numbers of souls leave Purgatory. There are in Purgatory, souls who pray ardently to God, but for whom no relative or friend prays for them on earth. God makes them benefit from the prayers of other people. It happens that God permits them to manifest themselves in different ways, close to their relatives on earth, in order to remind men of the existence of Purgatory, and to solicit their prayers close to God who is just, but good. The majority go to Purgatory. Many go to Hell. A small number go directly to Heaven."

When we talk to the Heavenly Father we will discover how hard our hearts have become, or how open and soft they are because we have lived Our Lady's messages. We will have to choose to humbly accept the mercy of God or to proudly refuse God's forgiveness and mercy. We may struggle, if we have lived for our own will and for our own glory. Thinking ahead about that conversation may help us to repent!

Ave Maris Stella
Hail, O Star of the ocean,
God's own Mother blest,
ever sinless Virgin,
gate of heav'nly rest.

Taking that sweet Ave,
which from Gabriel came,
peace confirm within us,
changing Eve's name.

Break the sinners' fetters,
make our blindness day,
Chase all evils from us,
for all blessings pray.

Show thyself a Mother,
may the Word divine
born for us thine Infant
hear our prayers through thine.

Virgin all excelling,
mildest of the mild,
free from guilt preserve us
meek and undefiled.

Keep our life all spotless,
make our way secure
till we find in Jesus,
joy for evermore.

Praise to God the Father,
honor to the Son,
in the Holy Spirit,
be the glory one. Amen.
