Global 40 Days of Prayer: Devotional: Day 16

DEVOTIONAL DAY 16
AUGUST 21, 2013

Intention:
The evangelization of the world depends first of all upon a revival of prayer. Deeper than the need for men - aye, deep down at the bottom of our spiritless life, is the need for the forgotten secret of prevailing, worldwide prayer.
Scripture:
And I will fill [them] with a spirit of mercy and a spirit of prayer (Zechariah 12:10 GNT).
Do all this in prayer, asking for God's help. Pray on every occasion, as the Spirit leads. For this reason keep alert and never give up; pray always for all God's people (Ephesians 6:18 GNT).
Reflection:
Every child of God has the Holy Spirit in him to pray. God waits to give the Spirit in full measure.  Ask for yourself, and all who join, the outpouring of the Spirit of supplication [prayer]. Ask it for your own prayer circle. It is only in the power of the Spirit already in us, acknowledged and yielded to, that we can pray for His fuller manifestation.  Say to the Father, it is the Spirit of His Son in you that is urging you to plead His promise.
Pray that our mission work may be done in this spirit - waiting on God, hearing the voice of the Spirit, sending forth men with fasting and prayer (Acts 13:2-4). Pray that in our churches our mission interest and mission work may be in the power of the Holy Spirit and of prayer.  It is a Spirit-filled, praying church that will send out Spirit-filled missionaries, mighty in prayer.
Time is one of the chief standards of value. The time we give is a proof of the interest we feel. We need time with God - to realize His presence; wait for Him to make Himself known; to consider and feel the needs we plead for; to take our place in Christ; to pray 'til we can believe that we have received.  Take time in prayer, and pray down blessing on the mission work of the church.
Prayer:
Lord of All, I ask that you pour out your Spirit on me and my fellowship that we will be moved to pray.  Help us to continue steadfastly in mighty prevailing prayer for worldwide revival.  Too often our praying is replaced by activities and busyness in our lives and in our fellowships.  Forgive us for our prayerlessness and our carelessness with your Word.  We repent of self-effort and selfishness that makes us depend on worldly strategies or the flesh.  Help us to pray in the power of your Holy Spirit using the sword of the Spirit.  We give ourselves wholeheartedly to your ways for your work.
We thank you for the acceleration of mighty global, national and local prayer movements in the last few decades.  We declare now a multiplication of prayer, praise and worship to you, as never before, throughout the earth, that will bring great glory to your name.  In Jesus name. Amen.
Continue in prayer using the 4 prayer points as the Lord leads you.

Four Prayer points:

*Pray for a worldwide outpouring of the Holy Spirit for revival and transformation of the nations of the world.

*Pray for a billion people to find Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord.

*Pray for an end to abortion and for God to turn back the tide of death and immorality that is sweeping the nations of the world.

*Pray for a multiplication of prayer, praise and worship to God across the world as never before, to bring great glory to God.
