Consecration Day 20

Dear Family of Mary!

Today we begin Week 2 of our preparation for consecration. This week is devoted to a greater knowledge of Mary! What a delightful week this will be!

Here is the theme of this week:

Purpose: Obtain Knowledge of the Blessed Virgin
Acts of love, pious affection for the Blessed Virgin, imitation of her virtues, especially her profound humility, her lively faith, her blind obedience, her continual mental prayer, her mortification in all things, her surpassing purity, her ardent charity, her heroic patience, her angelic sweetness, and her divine wisdom: "there being," as St. Louis De Montfort says, "the ten principal virtues of the Blessed Virgin."

We must unite ourselves to Jesus through Mary - this is the characteristic of our devotion; therefore, Saint Louis De Montfort asks that we employ ourselves in acquiring a knowledge of the Blessed Virgin.

Mary is our sovereign and our mediatrix, our Mother and our Mistress. Let us then endeavor to know the effects of this royalty, of this mediation, and of this maternity, as well as the grandeurs and prerogatives which are the foundation or consequences thereof. Our Mother is also a perfect mold wherein we are to be molded in order to make her intentions and dispositions ours. This we cannot achieve without studying the interior life of Mary; namely, her virtues, her sentiments, her actions, her participation in the mysteries of Christ and her union with Him.

The purpose of this week is to become more like Mary. Of course we know that we cannot do this on our own. Mother Mary will have to do most of the molding and shaping. But we can turn our hearts and minds to her, and keep her in our focus all week. To give Our Lady our entire attention will be a lovely thing. She is so beautiful!

Today's Reading
Luke 2:16-21, 45-52
And they went with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they saw it they made known the saying which had been told them concerning this child; and all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb....
...and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions; and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. And when they saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously." And he said to them, "How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" And they did not understand the saying which he spoke to them. And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man.

Through all the amazing events of Mary's life, she did one thing that amazes us. She kept everything in her heart. She pondered each event, each moment in Jesus' life, in her heart.  What amazing strength Our Lady had. She must have run the gamut of emotions as Jesus' mother, from deep joy to incredibly severe suffering. But she kept all those emotions in her heart. She must have had so many questions about Jesus and his mission, about the politics of her times, about the plans of God in her regard. But she kept those questions in her heart as well. And she pondered everything that happened, every word spoken, every step taken in the life of the Holy Family, and she allowed those memories to speak to her. She pondered, with an eye on the Father. She pondered in His presence, in prayer. And the pondering bore incredible fruit.

We want to learn to bear fruit in the same way, by pondering in our hearts the wonders of the Lord. With Mary we will learn how.

Our Lady spoke about how we think and what we ponder in our hearts in these two messages. She wants us to think only about her Son, to think about God's glory, and let these things lead us. We will become like her in this way, those who ponder in their hearts the things of God.

April 4, 1985 (Holy Thursday) "Dear children! I thank you for having started to think more about God's glory in your hearts. Today is the day when I wished to stop giving the messages because some individuals did not accept me. The parish has been moved and I wish to keep on giving you messages as it has never been in history from the beginning of the world. Thank you for having responded to my call."

April 2, 2010 "Dear children; Today I bless you in a special way and I pray for you to return to the right way, to my Son, your Savior, your Redeemer, to Him who gave you eternal life. Reflect on everything human, on everything that does not permit you to set out after my Son, on transience, imperfection and limitation, and then think of my Son, of His Divine infiniteness. By your surrender and prayer ennoble your body and perfect your soul. Be ready, my children. Thank you."

Our thoughts, our ponderings, are very important.  Indeed, the people who started to think more about God's glory made all the difference in Our Lady's plans for Medjugorje.  Those thoughts about God changed God's mind, and He continued to send Mary to us in a way that has never before happened in all history.

We will pray the same prayers as in Week 1, but add one more prayer, St. Louis' Prayer to Mary. And we are advised to pray the Rosary each day as well. Fortunately we already do pray the Rosary, so we are all set!!

Ave Maris Stella
Hail, O Star of the ocean,
God's own Mother blest,
ever sinless Virgin,
gate of heav'nly rest.

Taking that sweet Ave,
which from Gabriel came,
peace confirm within us,
changing Eve's name.

Break the sinners' fetters,
make our blindness day,
Chase all evils from us,
for all blessings pray.

Show thyself a Mother,

born for us thine Infant
hear our prayers through thine.

Virgin all excelling,
mildest of the mild,
free from guilt preserve us
meek and undefiled.

Keep our life all spotless,
make our way secure
till we find in Jesus,
joy for evermore.

Praise to God the Father,
honor to the Son,
in the Holy Spirit,
be the glory one. Amen.

St. Louis De Montfort's Prayer to Mary

Hail Mary, beloved Daughter of the Eternal Father! Hail Mary, admirable Mother of the Son! Hail Mary, faithful spouse of the Holy Spirit! Hail Mary, my dear Mother, my loving Mistress, my powerful sovereign! Hail my joy, my glory, my heart and my soul! You are all mine by mercy, and I am all yours by justice. But I am not yet sufficiently yours. I now give myself wholly to you without keeping anything back for myself or others. If you still see in me anything which does not belong to you, I beseech you to take it and to make yourself the absolute Mistress of all that is mine. Destroy in me all that may be displeasing to God, root it up and bring it to nought; place and cultivate in me everything that is pleasing to you.

May the light of you faith dispel the darkness of my mind; may your profound humility take the place of my pride; may your sublime contemplation check the distractions of my wandering imagination; may your continuous sight of God fill my memory with His presence; may the burning love of your heart inflame the lukewarmness of mine; may your virtues take the place of my sins; may your merits be my only adornment in the sight of God and make up for all that is wanting in me. Finally, dearly beloved Mother, grant, if it be possible, that I may have no other spirit but yours to know Jesus and His divine will; that I may have no other soul but yours to praise and glorify the Lord; that I may have no other heart but yours to love God with a love as pure and ardent as yours. I do not ask you for visions, revelations, sensible devotion or spiritual pleasures. It is your privilege to see God clearly; it is your privilege to enjoy heavenly bliss; it is your privilege to triumph gloriously in Heaven at the right hand of your Son and to hold absolute sway over angels, men and demons; it is your privilege to dispose of all the gifts of God, just as you will.

Such is, O heavenly Mary, the "best part," which the Lord has given you and which shall never be taken away from you-and this thought fills my heart with joy. As for my part here below, I wish for no other than that which was yours: to believe sincerely without spiritual pleasures; to suffer joyfully without human consolation; to die continually to myself without respite; and to work zealously and unselfishly for you until death as the humblest of your servants. The only grace I beg you to obtain for me is that every day and every moment of my life I may say: Amen, so be it's all that you did do while on earth; Amen, so be it's all that you are now doing in Heaven; Amen, so be it-to all that you are doing in my soul, so that you alone may fully glorify Jesus in me for time and eternity. Amen.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
