From CMMB: Your Weekly Reflection in Prayer 12/8/13

Your Weekly Prayer Reflection During Holy Times
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called Holy, the Son of God.”
-Luke 1:35

Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Dear John,
In William Wordsworth’s poem, “The Virgin” he describes Mary:
Mother! Whose virgin bosom was uncrost
With the least shade of thought to sin allied;
Woman! Above all women glorified,
Our tainted nature’s solitary boast…
That is what the Church celebrates – that Mary was the sinless one. In Advent we recall that God’s Spirit came down upon the prophets, and His power overshadowed Mary. That same Spirit, came down upon God’s saints, and wants to descend on us, to renew and empower us, and through us, renew the face of the earth.

You are all fair, O Mary. You are the glory of Jerusalem, the joy of Israel, the great honor of our people, and the great advocate of sinners. O Mary, Mother most merciful, pray for us. Intercede for us with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen
