Confession Novena Day 7

Dear Family of Mary!

Day 7 of our Novena to St. Isidore and St. Faustina for the grace to understand and love Confession!

Peace and Joy

St. Faustina:

At that moment the priest came in and began the conference. He spoke for a short time, as if he were in a hurry. After the conference, he went over to the confessional. Seeing that none of the sisters were going there, I sprang from my kneeler, and in an instant was in the confessional. There was no time to deliberate. Instead of telling the father about the doubts that had been sown in me in respect to my dealings with the Lord Jesus, I began to speak about these temptations I have just described above. The confessor immediately understood my situation and said, "Sister, you distrust the Lord Jesus because He treats you so kindly. Well, Sister, be completely at peace. Jesus is your Master, and your communing with Him is neither daydreaming nor hysteria nor illusion. Know that you are on the right path. Please try to be faithful to these graces; you are not free to shun them. You do not need at all, Sister, to tell your superiors about these interior graces, unless the Lord Jesus instructs you clearly to do so, and even then you should first consult with your confessor. But if the Lord Jesus demands something external, in this case, after consulting your confessor, you should carry out what He asks of you, even if this costs you greatly. On the other hand, you must tell your confessor everything. There is absolutely no other course for you to take, Sister. Pray that (88) you may find a spiritual director, or else you will waste these great gifts of God. I repeat once again, be at peace; you are following the right path. Take no heed of anything else, but always be faithful to the Lord Jesus, no matter what anyone says about you. It is with just such miserable souls that the Lord Jesus communes in this intimate way. And the more you humble yourself, the more the Lord Jesus will unite Himself with you." (174)

When I left the confessional, ineffable joy filled my soul, so that I withdrew to a secluded spot in the garden to hide myself from the sisters to allow my heart to pour itself out to God. God's presence penetrated me and, in an instant, all my nothingness was drowned in God; and at the same moment I felt, or rather discerned, the Three Divine Persons dwelling in me. And I had such great peace in my soul that I myself was surprised that I could have had so many misgivings. (175)

Fr. Alfred Wilson:

Regular Confession prevents our worries and fears and remorse from degenerating into neurosis and melancholia. Test from your own experience what might have happened to you but for Confession. There are few who certainly retain their Baptismal innocence: few who have not, at some time or other, committed mortal sin or had serious doubts of having committed it. Remember that experience and the aftermath - your worry, misery, joylessness: the joy of others merely accentuated your misery and seemed almost to mock you; praise and approval rubbed in your unworthiness. You went to Confession, you put yourself in contact with the Precious Blood, "one drop of which could cleanse a thousand worlds of sin"; you almost felt "the oil of gladness" being poured into your soul. You came out a changed being. You were free, you were pure, once more a child of God. Others noticed the change and wondered what had happened to you. You simply had to indulge your feelings, you bounded along and almost danced for joy, you felt that you could have jumped over the moon and gladly played the clown in any harlequin show. He had restored unto you the joy of His salvation. Recall those times of huge relief. That relief is being given daily to thousands. (Fr. Alfred Wilson. "Pardon and Peace")

Our Lady of Medjugorje:

"Dear children! In this time of grace, I call all of you to renew prayer. Open yourselves to Holy Confession so that each of you may accept my call with the whole heart. I am with you and I protect you from the ruin of sin, but you must open yourselves to the way of conversion and holiness, that your heart may burn out of love for God. Give Him time and He will give Himself to you and thus, in the will of God you will discover the love and the joy of living. Thank you for having responded to my call." November 25, 2012

Confession works the miracle of peace in our souls because we are again united with our God, the tangle of lies and fears and temptations that bind up our souls is undone, and we can again breathe in the free air of love. The love of our God can again pulse through our veins. He can reach us, speak to our hearts, touch our souls with His great kindness, and fill us with His love.  What follows is complete joy!

Let us pray:

Dear Lord Jesus, we ask you to give us a true understanding of the necessity and grandeur of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Help us to recognize You in the confessional, waiting for us, waiting to forgive us and embrace us with Your love and mercy. We need forgiveness. Help us to find our way into Your arms.
