Spiritual Gems-The Key is Actually Living One's Consecration...Here is How the Saints Did It-1/31/15

The Key is Actually Living One's Consecration...Here is How the Saints Did It

To live one's Consecration sincerely ( and St. Louis De Montfort says most don't do this) means to impregnate one's whole life with it. To attain to that end, we must recall it often and renew it frequently. The times to do this are when we awake, at morning prayer, at Holy Communion,  during difficult moments of the day, when we are tempted to sin and during the night examen.  Little by little with practice and perseverance, calling on Mary to help us, we will constantly call Mary into every thought, word and act and truly live the Consecration completely.  But what is more important than multiplying the times we renew it, is the care we put into it, especially seeking to place our entire will and all our whole soul into this effort.

The Grace of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a Gift from God through His Mother to purposely help us accelerate the living of one's Consecration and it further allows us to more easily and securely live this Consecration at each moment of the day.  Since our whole purpose is to imitate Jesus, and the Consecration allows us to do just that much better than we ever could with our own efforts, are we not foolish if we fail to know, desire and accept the Grace of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,  which is an Extraordinary Grace for these times that God begs us to accept?

Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! Also today I call you: live your vocation in prayer. Now, as never before, Satan wants to suffocate man and his soul by his contagious wind of hatred and unrest. In many hearts there is no joy because there is no God or prayer. Hatred and war are growing from day to day. I am calling you, little children, begin anew, with enthusiasm, the walk of holiness and love; since I have come among you because of this. Together let us be love and forgiveness for all those who know and want to love only with a human love and not with that immeasurable love of God to which God calls you. Little children, may hope in a better tomorrow always be in your heart. Thank you for having responded to my call." (January 25, 2015)

"Hatred and war are growing from day to day. I am calling you, little children, begin anew, with enthusiasm, the walk of holiness and love; since I have come among you because of this."

It seems we find ourselves at a moment in history in which the forces of good and evil are locked in a decisive conflict. On every level of society, in every country of the world, there is a sense of confrontation. It takes different forms, but at the heart of it, the real battle is over the souls of men. Abortion, euthanasia, slavery, exploitation of every kind, poverty, ethnic and religious persecution... and on and on. The world is engulfed in war and hatred.

We may ask ourselves, how did I come to live at this most terrible moment? Why has this chance come to me? It is unnerving. But truthfully we are not the first people to find ourselves in such a situation. Our forefathers faced similar difficulties, world wars, famines, depressions, social upheavals. This is the plight of sinful man.

Yet our time seems especially dreadful.

Our Lady has been sent to us, is among us, precisely because of the times we are in. She tells us that she has come among us just now when "hatred and war are growing from day to day," because the Father has sent her to help us to "begin anew, with enthusiasm, the walk of holiness and love!" She has come to lead us forward against hatred and war, to be our general in the battle against the evils of our time.

Our job in this confrontation is to walk the way of holiness and love. No matter the fears and dangers, no matter the number of people walking the way of sin and death, our job is to walk with Our Lady on the way of holiness and love.

Whenever I think of our times I am reminded of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by JRR Tolkien. For me, this epic story presents the challenge of our day. I especially identify with Frodo and Sam. Thrust into a moment in the history of Middle Earth, Frodo has landed in the center of the battle of good against evil. He has been made the heir of Bilbo, and must accept the Ring of Power into his care. If anyone could say why me, it is Frodo. In fact he does say it to Gandalf. And Gandalf's reply is a reply to each of us;

'I wish it need not have happened in my time,' said Frodo.
'So do I,' said Gandalf, 'and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.' (The Fellowship of the Ring, Book I)

Indeed if you know this story, Frodo proceeds with Sam to walk a very difficult way always in love and holiness.  He conquers in the end because he has had mercy upon Gollum, and Gollum ends up destroying the ring through his lust for it.  Frodo succeeds even as he fails, because of the mercy in his heart.  (It's a long story!)

Indeed, Our Lady is with us, among us, to help us to decide what to do with the time that is given us. And that time is the time of her Triumph. We are called to live holiness, to live love, to testify to the reality that God exists. This is the time we are in, and this is our task. But we have Our Lady among us, with us, to help us the entire way. We have been given the greatest of gifts, the presence of Mary. With her aid, we can meet the times we have been given, and bring God's love into those times. This is the call.

I like the word "enthusiasm". It is a positive word. It implies hope and a belief in the future. It is a word that carries strength and joy in it. If we truly understand the future that awaits us, we should be enthusiastic. Like St. Stephen, St. Paul, St. John and all the holy saints, we can be full of joy at what awaits us. This is important for us as we decide what to do with the time that is given us.

Our Lady spoke enthusiastic words to us on March 18, 2012. Let these words be our rallying cry:

"Dear children! I am coming among you because I desire to be your mother - your intercessor. I desire to be the bond between you and the Heavenly Father - your Mediatrix. I desire to take you by the hand and to walk with you in the battle against the impure spirit. My children, consecrate yourselves to me completely. I will take your lives into my motherly hands and I will teach them peace and love, and then I will give them over to my Son. I am asking of you to pray and fast because only in this way will you know how to witness my Son in the right way through my motherly heart. Pray for your shepherds that, united in my Son, they can always joyfully proclaim the Word of God. Thank you."

Thank you dearest Mother, for taking us by the hand and walking with us into the battle against the impure spirit. Thank you for coming among us to show us what to do with the time that has been given us!!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

Little children, may hope in a better tomorrow always be in your heart. Thank you for having responded to my call." (January 25, 2015)

"In many hearts there is no joy because there is no God or prayer."

We are made for joy! Look at little children. They find joy in the smallest things, a puddle of water, a butterfly, a tiny ball. Life is full of wonder and excitement for them. Joy is natural for children. We all need joy because we were made for joy, the joy of discovering God.

But in our world today, God has been removed from sight. And without Him, joy is lost. Yes, there is some fleeting happiness, but it is built on passing experiences based on temporal desires. Sadness soon takes hold of those who have no prayer, no God.

It is through prayer that we come in contact with God. He alone can make us truly happy. He alone can fill us with joy.

Fr. Jacques Philippe, in his book "Thirsting for Prayer" describes the joy that comes from finding God in prayer:

Prayer gives us a foretaste of heaven. It makes us glimpse and savor a happiness that is not of this world, and that nothing here below can give us: the happiness in God for which we are destined, for which we were created. Yes, we do encounter struggles, sufferings, and aridity in our prayer lives - and I'll come back to this. But if we persevere faithfully in prayer, we taste from time to time an inexpressible happiness: a degree of peace and fulfillment that are a real foretaste of paradise. "You will see heaven opened, "Jesus has promised us (Jn 1:51). (Fr. Jacques Philippe. Thirsting for Prayer. P. 13)

Truly the joy we receive in prayer is the joy of heaven. We find in prayer our true God, our Creator. We discover that He loves us, and that He wants us to be with Him forever. We feel His forgiveness, His tenderness and His joy in us. Suddenly our lives make sense. We know who we are, and where we are bound. We touch eternity, and we know that we will live forever with the One who made us and loves us. Prayer makes sense! Life makes sense! All is well.

Our Lady has called us to joy many times in her messages. Here is one memorable message:

"Dear children! I invite you now to be open to God. See, children, how nature is opening herself and is giving life and fruits. In the same way I invite you to live with God and to surrender completely to him. Children, I am with you and I want to introduce you continuously to the joy of life. I desire that everyone may discover the joy and love which can be found only in God and which only God can give. God doesn't want anything from you only your surrender. Therefore, children, decide seriously for God because everything else passes away. Only God doesn't pass away. Pray to be able to discover the greatness and joy of life which God gives you. Thank you for having responded to my call." May 25, 1989

The joy of life! God is the joy of life! He is the source of all joy.

"God doesn't want anything from you, only your surrender." These beautiful words reveal our path. As we surrender to God in prayer, we will become joyful. And our joy will drive away the enemy and his contagious winds of hatred and unrest. God will be victorious in us and through us.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

"Now, as never before, Satan wants to suffocate man and his soul by his contagious wind of hatred and unrest."

There is an urgency in Our Lady's message. We can all feel it. Maybe it is her use of the phrase, "Now, as never before..." Mother Mary has a privileged perspective on history. She has witnessed the past 2000 years. She has seen centuries of turmoil, strife, persecution, and war. She has seen the growth of the Church, steadily over time, no matter the opposition. She has seen the Holy Spirit prevail over evil, time and time again. And she has seen the enemy laying his snares, gathering his forces, and warring upon the Church in every age. And so when she says, "Now as never before...", it seems that we ought to take her seriously.

I thought it might be helpful to look at the messages in which she has used this phrase. There are only three others. I list them below, so that we can read them and pray over them. It seems that there is a great deal at stake in this time of Our Lady's coming to Medjugorje. She has come at a pivotal moment in history, and though we might not see the whole picture, we can feel that she is with us because we need her and there is so much that depends on our response to her coming.

Here are the messages:

August 25, 1991 "Dear Children! Today also I invite you to prayer, now as never before when my plan has begun to be realized. Satan is strong and wants to sweep away my plans of peace and joy and make you think that my Son is not strong in His decisions. Therefore, I call all of you, dear children, to pray and fast still more firmly. I invite you to self-renunciation for nine days so that, with your help, everything that I desire to realize through the secrets I began in Fatima, may be fulfilled. I call you, dear children, to now grasp the importance of my coming and the seriousness of the situation. I want to save all souls and present them to God. Therefore, let us pray that everything I have begun be fully realized. Thank you for having responded to my call."

Our Lady really connected the dots with this message. She is in Medjugorje to finish up what she began in Fatima. Fatima was the beginning of her triumph. This is the time of its fulfillment. Wow!

September 25, 1991 "Dear children! Today in a special way I invite you all to prayer and renunciation. For now as never before Satan wants to show the world his shameful face by which he wants to seduce as many people as possible onto the way of death and sin. Therefore, dear children, help my Immaculate Heart to triumph in the sinful world. I beseech all of you to offer prayers and sacrifices for my intentions so I can present them to God for what is most necessary. Forget your desires, dear children, and pray for what God desires, and not for what you desire. Thank you for having responded to my call."

The shameful face of Satan is completely visible to us now. Who can deny that he is revealing himself? The only response we can give is to forget our desires, and pray for what God desires...the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart.

March 25, 1992 "Dear children! Today as never before I invite you to live my messages and to put them into practice in your life. I have come to you to help you and, therefore, I invite you to change your life because you have taken a path of misery, a path of ruin. When I told you: convert, pray, fast, be reconciled, you took these messages superficially. You started to live them and then you stopped, because it was difficult for you. No, dear children, when something is good, you have to persevere in the good and not think: God does not see me, He is not listening, He is not helping. And so you have gone away from God and from me because of your miserable interest. I wanted to create of you an oasis of peace, love and goodness. God wanted you, with your love and with His help, to do miracles and, thus, give an example. Therefore, here is what I say to you: Satan is playing with you and with your souls and I cannot help you because you are far away from my heart. Therefore, pray, live my messages and then you will see the miracles of God's love in your everyday life. Thank you for having responded to my call."

This message is a warning to us, we must not let Satan play with us. We must move into God's camp and stay there. We must help create the oasis of peace that Our Lady came to create. That oasis is her Immaculate Heart, revealed in each of us.

Well, I didn't expect to write this. It just came to me that Our Lady is urgent. And she has been urgent before. These messages together give us some sense of what is needed from us. May we respond to her call! May we become part of her peace plan, her oasis of peace! May we see miracles of God's love in our lives!! May Our Lady's desire to save all souls and present them to God be realized!!

Thank you for having responded to my call." (January 25, 2015) "Also today I call you: live your vocation in prayer."

I am intrigued by this call from Our Lady. It says to me to live the life that I have chosen, my state in life, in constant prayer. In other words, my state in life, my chosen road, must be steeped in prayer, saturated by prayer, filled with prayer, constantly directed by prayer. My vocation is first of all, to be a wife and mother. I live to serve my family. So to live my vocation in prayer is to live my life of service and love for my husband and family with my eyes on God, constantly in communion with Him, in prayer.

Of course we know that we cannot pray all the time. But there is a way to be constantly aware of God, aware of His presence, His love and His call. Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection, a French Carmelite friar wrote what he called "The Practice of the Presence of God" in which he simply shared how it is possible to pray constantly:

The practice that is holiest, most usual and most necessary in the spiritual life is the practice of the presence of God. That is, to take pleasure in and accustom ourselves to his divine company, speaking humbly and conversing lovingly with him at all times, at every moment, without rule or measure; and especially at times of temptations, sufferings, dryness, and self-disgust, and even infidelities and sins. We should apply ourselves continually to ensure that all our activities whatsoever are a way of holding little conversations with God, not studied words, but just as they come forth from purity and simplicity of heart...

We should, during our work and other actions, even during our reading, even spiritual reading, during our outward devotions and vocal prayers, stop for an instant as often as we can, to adore God in the depths of our hearts, savor him rapidly and as it were by stealth, praise him, ask him for help, offer him our hearts and thank him. What could be more pleasing to God than for us to leave aside created things a thousand times a day, to recollect ourselves and adore him interiorly?

For being with God, it is not necessary to be always at church. We may make an oratory of our heart, wherein to retire from time to time, to converse with him. Everyone is capable of such familiar conversation with God.

I think that Brother Lawrence describes well what it means to live our vocation in prayer. Yes, we need to have set times for prayer as Our Lady has taught us. These times of prayer encourage and strengthen us for constant prayer during our normal duties.

The more we can converse with our Lord, the more strength we will have to be love, forgiveness and hope for this very sad and tired world that lives without God.

Mary TV January 26, 2015 Update from Denis - Urgent Times!

January 26, 2015
Dear Apostles of Our Lady of Medjugorje,

After receiving the Mary TV brochure, "This time is my time!" (Brochure), Cardinal Jaime Sin wrote me a remarkable letter. (Cardinal's letter ). As he lay on his deathbed he was offering his prayers and sufferings for Mary TV. I received his letter in the mail the day after he died.   Seven years earlier Cardinal Sin had joined our Advisory Board to stand publicly with Medjugorje as a personal gift to his friend, Pope John Paul II.

Sixteen years ago (in April, 1999) Our Lady endorsed the work of Mary TV when she brought up Mary TV during an apparition to Vicka in Medjugorje.  She told Vicka that my plan through Mary TV was good, but I should go very slowly -- not rush - I could get prepared little by little.  She herself would say when to begin.

She has!

I think Mary TV's mission today - connecting Our Lady's children around the world to their Mother's daily presence in Medjugorje - couldn't be more important! The times couldn't be more urgent.  Our Lady just told us in the message she gave yesterday: "Now, as never before, Satan wants to suffocate man and his soul!" (January 25, 2015). We know that violence, hatred and disbelief are spreading like a plague over the whole world. But Our Lady has told us: "My Son promised me that evil will never win, because you, the souls of the just, are here," (November 2, 1014 message).  No wonder Satan would offer to give back to God the rest of the world in exchange for Medjugorje! (Jelena Vasilj confirmed to me that Our Lady really did say this.)  Indeed, "Medjugorje is the spiritual center of the world!"  Saint John Paul II. ("Why He Is A Saint, The Life and Faith of Pope John Paul II and the Case for Canonization", p. 168, by Msgr. Slawomir Oder, Postulator for his Cause of Sainthood.)

Part of our effort to connect Medjugorje to the world involves a TV channel which could present programming from Medjugorje all day long! As a first step, Mary TV's Internet channel is up and running, LIVE STREAMING every day from Medjugorje.  Slowly but surely, Our Lady is moving us forward! (You might want to watch the  "Mission Statement" video at the top left hand column on Mary TV's web page - http://www.marytv.tv/mission-statement).

We're grateful to our donors who have made all this possible.... But in order to continue Mary TV needs more monthly donors!    If you're not already donating, please consider becoming part of this work for Our Lady....and please consider passing on my appeal to others in your email address book.  A person can always go to www.marytv.tv  and sign up to give a monthly donation via PayPal, or Vanco Services.

Thank you and God bless you!

Spiritual Gems-Where Mary Is...so Is the Person of the Holy Spirit-January 24, 2015

Where Mary Is...so Is the Person of the Holy Spirit

Mary in whom the Holy Spirit dwells in a special way, evokes the Holy Spirit in all other creatures...in us!  The most notable example is Elizabeth when Mary visited her.  Mary, who always carries Jesus within her in a mystical way, still seeks to bring a dynamic, personal relationship with the Holy Spirit into each of our lives, so that we are also "filled with the Holy Spirit"; and thus we will also often break into spontaneous and joy filled praise of God for her as our Advocate by saying: "Blessed are thou among woman and blessed is the fruit of thy womb."

When we are aware of the Holy Spirit's constant presence in our soul as baptized and confirmed Catholics free of mortal sin, we will also often break into praise and worship of God with "joy and the Holy Spirit" as we proclaim with Mary..."my soul proclaims the greatness of The Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior."  Speak often to the Holy Spirit dwelling in your soul...He is the Person appropriated to bring you to holiness...He is the Sanctifier!  Ask Mary to intercede for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit,  especially to know Him as a Person!

From Mark Mallett: The Black Ship – Part II

The Black Ship – Part II

WARS and rumors of wars… And yet, Jesus said these would only be “the beginning of the birth-pangs.” [1] What, then, could possibly be the hard labor? Jesus answers:
Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away, and betray one another, and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. (Matt 24:9-11)
Yes, the violent death of the body is a travesty, but the death of the soul is a tragedy. The hard labor is the great spiritual struggle that is here and coming…

Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! These days live all the main messages and keep rooting them in your hearts til Thursday. Thank you for having responded to my call." (November 22, 1984)

I prayed for this message, pulling it from my message box. It is an early message and demonstrates the daily guidance that Our Lady was giving to the parish, through the visionaries. It is so practical. "Live all the main messages and keep rooting them in your hearts..." This was Our Lady's school. Her messages provided a framework for the parish, a framework of spiritual practices that would help for move the parishioners forward in their life with God.

This is very good advice for us today. The main messages challenge us. They reveal to us what is most important to Our Lady. If we trust her, we are wise to attempt to put her main messages into practice in our lives.

In Kalamazoo, Michigan, Ivan Dragicevic gave a talk in which he emphasized the main messages. Here is his list of main messages:

What are those things to which our mother is calling us? What are those most important messages by which Our Lady is leading us? You know that throughout these 30 years Our Lady has given us very many messages. But if we were to focus just on the most important messages, I would like to emphasize these messages by which Our Lady is guiding us:

Peace
Conversion
Prayer of the Heart
Penance and Fasting
Strong Faith
Love
Eucharist
Forgiveness
Confession
The Message of HOPE

These are the most important messages through which Our Lady is guiding us. Throughout these 30 years Our Lady has taken each one of these messages and she has simplified them and brought them closer to us so we can better understand them and live them in our lives. It is always good to review this list, and reflect on how we are living these messages. As we await the message for January 25, 2015, maybe we can take some time to review our lives, and ask Our Lady how we can increase our commitment to her main messages. They are part of the peace plan that has been inaugurated in Medjugorje!

Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children (USA)

Dear Family of Mary!

Today, in the USA, thousands of citizens will be marching at our capital, Washington, D.C., in support of pro-life legislation. Our bishops have asked us all to pray all day today for the "full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion." For 53 years our nation has suffered under the curse of abortion. We pray that all nations will be free of that curse, and that life will again be celebrated and received with gratitude.

Our Lady of Medjugorje has been teaching us the value of our lives in her messages, hoping that we will understand and embrace our lives and the lives of all our brothers and sisters because life is a gift. Here are some of her words:

"Today I invite you all to rejoice in the life which God gives you. Little children, rejoice in God the Creator because he has created you so wonderfully. Pray that your life will be a joyful thanksgiving which flows out of your heart like a river of joy!" (August 25, 1988)

"Today I invite you to decide for God once again, and to choose him before everything else and above everything else, so that he may perform miracles in your life, and that, day by day, your life may become joy with him...Pray that you may be able to comprehend the greatness and the beauty of the gift of life." (January 25, 1991)

"Choose life and not death of the soul. Little children, in this time when you meditate on the suffering and death of Jesus, I invite you to decide for life which blossomed through the Resurrection and let your life be renewed today through conversion which will lead you to eternal life." (March 25, 1996)

Clearly, Our Lady wants us to realize that our lives are sacred and beautiful, and by extension every life is sacred and beautiful, because we are created by God and loved by Him. But it is only in God and through God that we can truly embrace life. Our world needs to be evangelized to the beauty of life!

I close with the last paragraphs of "Evangelium Vitae" - The Gospel of Life - the encyclical by Saint John Paul II. In these paragraphs Saint John Paul the Great recalls Our Lady's commitment to life, and asks her intercession for us in this day, as we battle for life. It is fitting to pray these words today, with our bishops and the whole world, thirsting for life.

From Evangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life) by Saint John Paul II

"Death shall be no more" (Rev 21:4): the splendor of the Resurrection

105. The angel's Annunciation to Mary is framed by these reassuring words: "Do not be afraid, Mary" and "with God nothing will be impossible" (Lk 1:30, 37). The whole of the Virgin Mother's life is in fact pervaded by the certainty that God is near to her and that he accompanies her with his providential care. The same is true of the Church, which finds "a place prepared by God" (Rev 12:6) in the desert, the place of trial but also of the manifestation of God's love for his people (cf. Hos 2:16). Mary is a living word of comfort for the Church in her struggle against death. Showing us the Son, the Church assures us that in him the forces of death have already been defeated: "Death with life contended: combat strangely ended! Life's own Champion, slain, yet lives to reign".

The Lamb who was slain is alive, bearing the marks of his Passion in the splendor of the Resurrection. He alone is master of all the events of history: he opens its "seals" (cf. Rev 5:1-10) and proclaims, in time and beyond, the power of life over death. In the "new Jerusalem", that new world towards which human history is traveling, "death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away" (Rev 21:4).

And as we, the pilgrim people, the people of life and for life, make our way in confidence towards "a new heaven and a new earth" (Rev 21:1), we look to her who is for us "a sign of sure hope and solace".

O Mary,
bright dawn of the new world,
Mother of the living,
to you do we entrust the cause of life
Look down, O Mother,
upon the vast numbers
of babies not allowed to be born,
of the poor whose lives are made difficult,
of men and women
who are victims of brutal violence,
of the elderly and the sick killed
by indifference or out of misguided mercy.
Grant that all who believe in your Son
may proclaim the Gospel of life
with honesty and love
to the people of our time.
Obtain for them the grace
to accept that Gospel
as a gift ever new,
the joy of celebrating it with gratitude
throughout their lives
and the courage to bear witness to it
resolutely, in order to build,
together with all people of good will,
the civilization of truth and love,
to the praise and glory of God,
the Creator and lover of life.
(Given in Rome, at Saint Peter's, on 25 March, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, in the year 1995, the seventeenth of my Pontificate.)
