Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! Today again I call all of you to prayer. Only with prayer, dear children, will your heart change, become better, and be more sensitive to the Word of God. Little children, do not permit Satan to pull you apart and to do with you what he wants. I call you to be responsible and determined and to consecrate each day to God in prayer. May Holy Mass, little children, not be a habit for you, but life? By living Holy Mass each day, you will feel the need for holiness and you will grow in holiness. I am close to you and intercede before God for each of you, so that He may give you strength to change your heart. Thank you for having responded to my call." (January 25, 1998)

I opened randomly to this message the other day as I was praying. As I read it, I was aware of how pertinent it was. I needed to hear these words from Our Lady, even now, 17 years later. Though they were powerful when Our Lady first gave them, they had only grown more powerful over the years. Why? Well, it occurred to me that the times we are in today have become even more polarized and dangerous. Satan is indeed trying to pull us apart and do with us what he wants. His vicious plan has progressed. We see it everywhere becoming more obvious. And so we know our danger even better now. So of course we need to "be responsible and determined and to consecrate each day to God in prayer." We need to be vigilant.

It is also a good message to ponder as we enter into Lent. Holy Mother Church gives us this blessed time as a kind of universal retreat. The whole Church is on retreat. We are taking 6 weeks to pray, fast, and do works of mercy, in order to change our hearts. This is really the most wonderful thing we could possibly do! If we could see with heavenly eyes, we would understand what a blessed opportunity Lent is. We are being given a chance to draw close to our God, to let go of everything that hinders us from drawing close to Him, and of finding Him close at hand with blessings galore for each of us. If we only could see what our Guardian Angel sees!! We would be so excited!

As the Prophet Joel put it:

"Yet even now," says the LORD,
"return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;
and rend your hearts and not your garments."
Return to the LORD, your God,
for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love,
and repents of evil.
Who knows whether he will not turn and repent,
and leave a blessing behind him,
a cereal offering and a drink offering
For the LORD, your God? (Joel 2: 12-14)

"I am close to you and intercede before God for each of you, so that He may give you strength to change your heart." Mother is here with us to help us. She will not leave us to our own devices. She will guide us in changing our hearts. And this process will remove us far from the plans of our enemy. Thanks be to God!!

We are in good hands. Our Lady of Medjugorje is with us as much today as she was in 1998. She has been allowed to stay with us by the Heavenly Father, to help us deal with the times we are in. May we have open ears and hearts, to take in her words. She will help us this Lent, and every day of the year to draw close to our God.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
