“Why 5 Saturdays to honor Our Lady?”

Picture taken in Coimbra, Portugal, Sister Lucia's Memorial Museum
One day, Sister Lucia (one of the three visionaries of Fatima in Portugal) was at the Motherhouse of her convent in Tuy (Spain). She had to respond in writing to a number of questions from her confessor about the reparatory devotion of the five first Saturdays of the month requested by Mary.

One of the questions was "Why five Saturdays and not nine or seven in honor of Our Lady?" At night, in the chapel, the visionary was as usual doing a holy hour, from 11:00 pm to midnight, according to the requests of the Sacred Heart at Paray-le-Monial. A divine presence revealed to her that there are five kinds of offenses and blasphemies uttered against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:
  1. Blasphemies against her Immaculate Conception;
  2. Blasphemies against her perpetual virginity;
  3. Blasphemies against her divine and spiritual motherhood;
  4. Blasphemies from those who neglect to implant in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of our her;
  5. Offenses involving the rejection and dishonoring of her images.
