34th Anniversary of Our Lady's coming in Medjugorje

Dear Family of Mary!

Today we gather from around the world to give thanks for Our Lady's presence in Medjugorje for 34 years! We are astounded that God would allow her to stay with us so long. But now, more than ever, we need her. Let's draw very close to Our Mother in prayer during this special time, like children who embrace their mother and won't let go!! She is ready for us to do so!

Last year Our Lady spoke these words to us on the 33rd Anniversary. It is good to recall them as we await the message today:

June 25, 2014 "Dear children! The Most High is giving me the grace that I can still be with you and to lead you in prayer towards the way of peace. Your heart and soul thirst for peace and love, for God and His joy. Therefore, little children, pray, pray, pray and in prayer you will discover the wisdom of living. I bless you all and intercede for each of you before my Son Jesus. Thank you for having responded to my call."

And here is a simple and beautiful homily given at English Mass yesterday, June 24, 2015, by a lovely Italian priest (I do not know his name). His words about Our Lady and Medjugorje are simple and true:

It is a privilege for us all to be gathered together in this land that is foreign to most of us, but has become a special dwelling for the Blessed Mother. And so it is our home. The love of Mary for each one of us is the same love with which she welcomed Jesus into her life. She is the one who gave human life to the Son of God. And all she wants now is to give us the Divine Life of her Son. All she wants of us is to put into practice the words which she addressed to the servants at the wedding at Cana in Galilee, "Do whatever He asks of you." The Lord is our Savior, the only one who can free us from every bondage and free our hearts to praise the Father and to love our brothers and sisters.

Medjugorje is associated with the gift of peace. Mary is the Queen of Peace. When we pronounce this word we may hardly realize that the other name of peace is Christ, is Jesus. The Apostle Paul says that He is our peace. And Jesus Himself, at the vigil of His death tells His disciples "I give you peace." Not the peace that the world gives. Mine is a different peace. It is the peace that comes from victory over sin and death. We all know that sin and peace cannot coexist.

Today, on the 34th anniversary of the first apparition in Medjugorje, we celebrate the Feast of the Birth of St. John the Baptist. He was a great prophet, inspired by God, called by God, who baptized people by the Jordan River. John the Baptist reminds us of the necessity of purifying ourselves. The water of Baptism is the symbol of the flood of grace that comes upon us when we allow God to enter our lives. Today Our Blessed Mother is here to shower her graces upon us, but first we need to accept her call to prayer and penance. We all need to amend our lives.

This shrine provides us with an excellent opportunity to go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. When we make our confession we recognize our sinfulness but we also profess the goodness of the Lord who is always ready to forgive us. We give praise to Him just by taking advantage of His mercy. We should strive to leave this place, fully reconciled with God and with one another. And made new by the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

May we become prophets of the Most High like John the Baptist and servants of the Lord like Mary, ready to fulfill His will throughout the journey of life. We know that only by complying with God's will, we will have that special peace that Jesus wants to give to us. Amen.

Indeed, Medjugorje has become a special dwelling place of the Blessed Mother, and so it is our home!! It is our home... It is our home...

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
