Legend has it that after his death, a rosebush bloomed out of his mouth, whose flowers bore the name of Mary. On November 30, 1186, the feast day of Saint Andrew, the monks of Deols had gathered for the office of matins. The abbot went through the choir and checked if everyone was there. His eyes came to an empty stall. “Where is our brother Josbert?” He asked. No one knew. The abbot hurried out. After a few moments he returned, pale and weeping: “My brothers, something important has happened. Blessed Josbert is in heaven. Come look at the great miracle that has happened to his body.” The monks rushed to enter the cell where a wonderful sight awaited them—wrapped in his black habit as in a shroud, his hands clasped, his face turned upward, Josbert lay lifeless on his mat. Two scarlet roses sprouted from his eyes, two more blossomed from his ears, and a fifth one was between his lips. Each flower bore within its calyx a letter of the Virgin’s name. Image from Pinterest In Beauraing (diocese of Namur, Belgium), the Virgin Mary appeared 33 times to five children, from November 29, 1932 to January 3, 1933. The children were the Voisin siblings: Fernande, 15, Gilberte, 13, and Albert, 11 and the Degeimbre sisters: Andrée, 14 and Gilberte, 9 years of age. On December 29th, when the Virgin opened her arms as a sign saying of good-bye, the children saw her heart lit up as if it were made of gold. Hence the name given to Our Lady of Beauraing—the Virgin with the Golden Heart. This “golden heart” recalls the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima’s Immaculate Heart. On December 2, 1932, the children asked her: "What do you want from us?" Mary spoke for the first time: "For you to be good." On December 21st, their next question was: "Tell us who you are," to which she replied: "I am the Immaculate Virgin." On January 3rd, Mary entrusted a secret to the three youngest children. She promised: "I will convert sinners," and gave her name again: "I am the Mother of God, Queen of Heaven. Do you love my Son? Do you love me? ... So, sacrifice yourself for me. Farewell." Then you should spend time with her. How? By praying the Rosary properly. But, in the Rosary... we always repeat the same words! Always the same words? What about young lovers, don’t they always say the same things to each other? ... The supernatural virtues would really grow in us if we only spent more time with Mary, who is our Mother! Let’s not hesitate to repeat throughout the day—with the heart, not necessarily with words—small, short prayers... She is your Mother and you are her child. She loves you as if you were her only child in the world. Talk to her accordingly—tell her everything that happens to you, honor her, love her. Nobody will do it for you as well as you, if you don’t do it. I assure you that if you take this route, you will at once find all the love of Christ: and you will find yourself immersed in the ineffable life of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit... You will be the Christian you sometimes dream of becoming—full of good works of charity and justice, happy and strong, understanding towards others and demanding of yourself. What happened next was a miracle!  The Grotto of Massabielle (Wikipedia) In September 1914, the first WWI casualties arrived in the Shrine of Lourdes, following the bishop’s decision to make rooms that were usually reserved for sick pilgrims available to the army. A soldier named Colin came in with a broken arm and a shrapnel-infected wound. The doctor attempted an operation to remove it in vain. All dressing changes made Colin suffer horribly and caused heavy bleeding. Gangrene soon set in, alarming the nun in charge of him. She asked him if he would like to receive the last rites, but he declined the offer, preferring a non-religious burial. The good Sister started a novena to Our Lady of Lourdes. By the second day, the soldier agreed to receive the last rites, but his condition worsened. The odor given off by the injury was such that the nun had to isolate the patient in the morgue, next to his coffin. She decided to redress the wound, soaking it in water from the Grotto. The next day, the wound began to heal, to the amazement of the medical officer who finally managed to extract the shrapnel.
