The Presentation: Prophecy of Mary Co-redemptrix

The Presentation: Prophecy of Mary Co-redemptrix

The New Testament prophecy of the climax of Mary’s role as Co-redemptrix comes from the inspired words of Simeon at the Presentation of the infant Lord to the Temple (cf. Lk 2:25-37). It is here, by the power of the Holy Spirit (cf. Lk 2:26-27), that Mary receives the prophetic message of Simeon foretelling the climactic sharing by the Mother of Jesus in the price of Redemption.

The Virgin Mother, though not truly bound under a law given for an expiation of sin, nevertheless obediently subjected herself to the Mosaic Law. In the Temple she fulfills the duties of ritual purification, offering the “poor offering” of one young pigeon for a holocaust and another for a sin offering. There, too, she offers her male-child to the Lord. (1)
In this great paradox, the Mother and Son, who will offer themselves as the “sin offering” for all humanity at Calvary, enter the…

“This Picture Will Precede a New Dogma”

In this April 15, 1951 Message from the Lady of All Nations, Our Lady explains her own historic role as the “Co-redemptrix,” how her image will prepare the way for a “new dogma” and how the Church will only grow stronger and more powerful through struggling for this new Marian Dogma of Mary Co-redemptrix -Ed.
April 15, 1951
I see that great bright light again. Very slowly the Lady comes forth from that light, and then she is standing before me clearly. The Lady is not yet saying anything, but looking at me with a smile. This lasts for a while, and then she begins to speak. The Lady says, “Child, look carefully once more.”
The Lady now points at the sash wrapped around her waist; I have to look at it carefully. The Lady says, “You have described everything correctly. You are on the right path. But look carefully at this…

“Mary’s Role as Co-redemptrix”

In this extraordinary homily given at the Marian shrine in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Pope John Paul II not only uses the Marian title, “Co-redemptrix,” but also provides a larger theological context which makes unquestionably clear the doctrinal legitimacy of both the title and coredemptive role of the Woman who was, in the words of the Holy Father, “crucified spiritually with her crucified Son.” -Ed.

Most Reverend Archbishop, Brother Bishops, Authorities, Beloved Brothers and Sisters:
1You have chosen for this sanctuary the significant title of Our Lady of Alborada, which with symbolic beauty speaks to us of the first light that announces the day. Mary is, in fact, the light that announces the nearness of the Sun about to rise, who is Christ. Where Mary is, Jesus will soon appear. With her luminous and resplendent presence, the Most Holy Virgin shines brightly with the light that awakens faith, prepares…

Padre Pio and the Mother Co-redemptrix

It has been written, and rightly so, that “if there is an aspect of the mystery of Mary especially fitting to the life and work of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, it is certainly thecoredemptive aspect of the person and mission of the Immaculate in God’s salvific plan of love” (1).
The mystery of Mary Coredemptrix is present in the life and writings of St. Pio of Pietrelcina at the highest levels of mystical experience which he lived out in body and soul, and of thetheologia cordis transmitted by him to his spiritual children in the language of that wisdom transcending by far a language limited to the solely notional and conceptual (2)

St. Pio of Pietrelcina in the first place lived the mystery of Marian Coredemption in his exceptional mystical experience of the Passion of Christ Crucified, of which he bore the living and bleeding stigmata in his body…

Sr. Lucia and Mary Co-redemptrix

After the inspired Word of Sacred Scripture and the doctrinal grace of the Catholic Catechism, I believe the third book that every Fatima devotee should have close at hand is the book of Sister Lucia, “Calls” From the Message of Fatima, which was released in English in 2002. A work truly directed by the Holy Spirit through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, “Calls” From the Message of Fatima constitutes a veritable Marian catechism of faith and life, written in a down to earth mode, which can be grasped by all members of the Faith and all people of good will. I have no personal doubt that Sister Lucia’s recent masterpiece will eventually become a spiritual classic, rightfully identified as the fruits of a mystic and of a saint.

This veritable Fatima catechism which includes inspired treatments on “In the Presence of…

Mary Co-Redemptrix as a Help in the Pursuit of Interreligious Dialogue

In 2004, I attended in Rome the Plenary of the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue (May 2004) and also the Study Days on Vatican II’s Decree Ad Gentes (October 2004). At both these events it was emphasized that the Church’s commitment to Evangelization and to Dialogue go hand in hand. This eventually led me to dedicate this short reflection on “Mary Co-redemptrix as a help in Dialogue.”
In inter-religious dialogue it is of the utmost importance that both sides come to know each other’s faith position as accurately as possible. Now it is my contention that a Catholic’s presentation and explanation of Mary’s title and role as Co-Redemptrix would greatly help his/her dialogue-partner to understand correctly some basics of the Church’s teaching.
The title “Co-Redemptrix” would naturally provide the occasion to present our doctrine concerning the Redeemer. This would be preceded by the explanation of the mystery of Redemption. This would…

Since the launching of the “Voice of the People for Mary Mediatrix” in May 1993, as a popular movement of the People of God from the five continents of the world praying and petitioning the Vicar of Christ to papally define the fifth Marian Dogma of Our Lady as “the spiritual Mother of all Peoples”, in her three motherly roles as Co-redemptrix, Mediatrix of all Graces and Advocate, a lot of good things have…

Mary Co-redemptrix: The Fulfillment of Maternal Love

Calvary is the summit of human history, where the drama of God’s salvation of man reaches its climax. Every human experience and expression, every action, every thought, every exercise of free will, finds its meaning and fulfillment only through the Cross.

It is at Calvary that we see enacted the fulfillment of the Mother Co-redemptrix, but in a category of human experience that transcends the dignity and efficacy of any other human vocation. At Calvary, the Mother partakes in the very act of Redemption, which in turn gives Christian meaning, purpose, and value to every other human act throughout the course of history. For it is by the objective measure of salvation, according to the ultimate meaning of love and truth, that all acts will be weighed.

Jn. 19:25-27: "Woman, Behold, Your…

Our Lady as Woman, Warrior, and Co-redemptrix

When researching the subject of the Blessed Virgin Mary, what is most obvious is the wealth of material which one must grapple with and, secondly, the greater and greater degree of doctrinal and dogmatic definitiveness with which the Catholic Church has presented to the faithful the complete reality of the Mother of God. Whereas, by the seventh century, the doctrinal questions concerning the nature and person of Our Lord Jesus Christ had been resolved by the first six Ecumenical Councils of the Church, the doctrinal and dogmatic clarification concerning the Blessed Virgin Mary has continued into the nineteenth and twentieth century (e.g., the dogmatic definitions of the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption), and we can even assert that such an attempt at clarification continues into our own (e.g., concerning Our Lady as Co-redemptrix and Mediatrix of All Graces. By all appearances, the icon had been buried for 850 years

In March 1821, at the monastery of Kechrovouni, on the Greek island of Tinos (in the Cyclades), Michel Polyzoes and Sister Pelagia saw the Virgin Mary three times in a vision. She was wearing a gold robe and was surrounded by a bright, heavenly light. The Virgin asked them to dig in a field outside a nearby village, in a place she referred to as "her home." The excavations revealed the ruins of an old church. On the same foundations a new edifice was erected, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and the Mother of God, Source of Life.

In 1823, construction workers unearthed an icon of the Annunciation, belonging to a Byzantine church that was destroyed by the Turks in the 10th century. By all appearances, it had been buried for 850 years... and was still intact.

The shrine was built out of marble from the temples of Neptune, relatively quickly—the construction took just 8 years—despite the war of independence waged by Greece against the Ottoman Empire. The church was completed in 1830. Among the countless miracles obtained through the Virgin of the Annunciation was the liberation of Greece.

The spirituality of this shrine resembles that of Lourdes: penance, conversion, reconciliation, trust and hope in the intercession of the Mother of God.

Our Lady will save us from barbarism

Our Lady will save us from barbarism

Our Lady of Nasturtiums

Still deeply shocked by the November 13, 2015 terrorist attacks, many French people now measure the gravity of the situation—such attacks could happen again anytime, anywhere...

Our response must first be spiritual. It is our responsibility to live the mysteries of our faith in a more profound way and to anchor ourselves in the hope of Salvation. Faced with barbarism, it is our Christian duty to live more interior and prayerful lives. Do we have an active prayer life? Do we have regular recourse to the sacraments? Are we familiar with the Bible and Catholic traditions? Is our family a good example of Christian joy and missionary zeal?

Confronted with the challenge that awaits us, it is no longer possible to be just lukewarm. We must entrust ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since Our Lady has touched the hearts of so many Muslims, and since we have entered the Jubilee year of Mercy, let us launch a major campaign of prayer to ask the Mother of God to intercede for our Muslim brothers and sisters. May they also discover the face of Divine Mercy—Our Lord Jesus Christ—crucified and risen, the Alpha and the Omega of the history of mankind.

Throughout the month of December 2009, a "luminous white silhouette" in a pure white dress with a royal blue belt, was spotted in different places throughout Egypt.

These were "apparitions of the Blessed Virgin," according to Abbouna Anba Theodosius, Bishop-General of Giza Coptic Orthodox Bishopric. The events generated great religious fervor. More than 200,000 Christians and Muslims claim to have witnessed the apparitions of the Virgin Mary.

"It’s her, with her blue and white clothes, there's no doubt about it. It can’t be an illusion," Rami, 36, told AFP (Agence France Presse). For Coptic Christians in Egypt, the month of December is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. "The Blessed Virgin appeared above the church that bears her name, in Warraq al-Hadar, Giza... It’s a great blessing for the Church and for all the people of Egypt," Abbouna Anba Theodosius added.

Interviewed by the magazine Famille Chretienne, Abbouna Ioustos Kamel Dos, the parish priest of the Coptic Orthodox church of Warraq, affirms: "It is a great joy for us. These apparitions help us to feel that the Virgin Mary is close to us... The Virgin Mary, who once took refuge here, has a very special love in her heart for her Egyptian children. Egypt is a land blessed by the Lord."
