Groundbreaking is scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15, for a low-income housing project for seniors in Osceola County. Catholic Charities of Central Florida and Osceola County are collaborating on St. Anthony Garden Courts on the site of the former Hamilton Park, north of 5th Street and west of Brown Chapel Road.
Orlando Diocese Bishop John Noonan and Arne Nelson, president of Catholic Charities, will join local officials in the groundbreaking ceremony.
Catholic Charities, with a $7 million Neighborhood Stabilization grant from Osceola County, will develop and manage 51-unit complex for seniors ages 55 and over in St. Cloud. The development will include one and two bedroom rental units and will have a community center for recreational activities. Support services will be available on an as-needed basis, including limited healthcare, a 24-hour nurse call system, food and benefits assistance.
Catholic Charities is partnering with JPH & Associates, Fugleberg Koch, Walker & Company, and SPM. St. Anthony Garden Courts will be located close to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and St. Thomas Aquinas Medical Clinic, another of Catholic Charities of Central Florida’s programs.
Catholic Charities of Central Florida developed and operates a similar facility, St. Joseph Garden Courts, in East Orlando for low-income seniors.
“There is great need for developments of this kind. It is imperative that we reach out to our senior population. It is our moral obligation,” Nelson said. “We are grateful to Osceola County and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for choosing Catholic Charities of Central Florida to develop and operate this critical project.”
Mother Mary said at Fatima: "My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the sure way which will lead you to God." St. Thomas Aquinas said: "The things we love tell us who we are!" With that in mind, I will try to post each day something about Our Blessed Lady, items about the Holy Roman Catholic Church, and public domain Catholic books too! I pray you enjoy my ministry! Below are two albums of pictures that I created: 1. Our grand daughter Adrianna. 2. Tears of Mary!
