Holy day a week away
Tuesday, Nov. 1, is Solemnity of All Saints
Next Tuesday, Nov. 1, Catholics in California and elsewhere will observe the Solemnity of All Saints -- a holy day of obligation.
Last year, All Saints Day fell on a Monday, and, under a rule in effect in the United States, Catholics were not required to observe it as a holy day. (The rule states that when a holy day of obligation falls on a Saturday or a Monday, the obligation to attend Mass is waived.) Otherwise, on holy days of obligation, Catholics are required to attend Mass and to refrain if able from servile labor.
On All Saints Day, Catholics celebrate all the saints -- those who have attained the beatific vision for their personal sanctity or martyrdom -- whether known or unknown. The feast dates back to the earliest years of the Church. Nov. 1 has been celebrated as All Saints Day since the 8th century.
(Editor’s Note: California Catholic Daily would like to know how All Saints Day was observed in your parish. Please return to this story next week and let us know in the comments section.)
Mother Mary said at Fatima: "My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the sure way which will lead you to God." St. Thomas Aquinas said: "The things we love tell us who we are!" With that in mind, I will try to post each day something about Our Blessed Lady, items about the Holy Roman Catholic Church, and public domain Catholic books too! I pray you enjoy my ministry! Below are two albums of pictures that I created: 1. Our grand daughter Adrianna. 2. Tears of Mary!

Please no anonymous comments. I require at least some way for people to address each other personally and courteously. Having some name or handle helps.
