“Mary said: ' I am the maidservant of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word.'” | Luke 1: 38 March 25, 2012 Annunciation of Our Lord
Dear John, From the silent actions of St. Joseph, which we recalled last week, we turn to the “YES” of Mary in response to the invitation of God through the angel Gabriel. Mary gives her “fiat” or yes to the call of God. One of the saints has written powerfully and beautifully of how God watched and waited for Mary to fully, freely say yes. Indeed, God turned to and relied upon Mary in order to bring about the redemption of the world. In many ways even now, God turns to us. God respects the freedom He has given us. May we use that freedom, as Mary did, to say yes to God in faith and yes to God and our neighbor in love. | O God, Who took to Yourself the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of Your incarnate Son: grant that we who have been redeemed by His blood, may share with her the glory of Your eternal kingdom, through the same Jesus Christ Our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
