"Pius XII: Under the Roman Sky" is a movie that is rendered all the more exciting because of the truths it exposes. The film takes place in occupied Rome in 1943. The Nazis are continuing to deport thousands of Jews to death camps even as Allied troops are marching toward the city to liberate it. The life of a lovely young Jewish girl, who is being courted by two very different young men, and her family are at stake.
Meanwhile, the Pope is opening up churches and monasteries to shelter the Jews and working behind the scenes to save as many as he can. Although, some are urging him to publicly condemn the Nazis, the Pope knows that protests by Catholic bishops in the Netherlands resulted in the immediate execution of tens of thousands of Jews. Is he to risk even greater reprisals in the Nazi-occupied nations?
