It
is a strong symbol for the Iraqis: two statues of the Virgin of
Guadalupe from Mexico have just arrived in Iraq, a gift to the Christian
refugees from the Catholic social movement Unión de Voluntades, in
association with Aid to the Church in Need - Mexico (AED-M).
The People of
Mexico want to sow some hope and love among the persecuted Christians in
the Middle East and increase the devotion to the Patroness of the
Americas worldwide.
In the summer of
2014, many local Christian communities welcomed hundreds of refugee
families driven out of Mosul and Qaraqosh (Iraq) by the self-proclaimed
jihadist Islamic State (IS), as they refused to renounce their faith and
convert to Islam.
Teresa García
Paquet, from AED, cried as she shared her story, saying that many nuns
have had to walk the Way of the Cross alongside thousands of people
forced to abandon their land. "What we experienced can only be faced
through faith," the nuns said.

Please no anonymous comments. I require at least some way for people to address each other personally and courteously. Having some name or handle helps.
