A
6-year-old Protestant boy often heard his Catholic friends pray the
"Hail Mary." He so loved this prayer that he learned it by heart and
recited it every day. Proudly, he recited it to his mother, whose
reaction was: "Don’t say that anymore. It’s a Catholic superstition.
They believe Mary is a goddess!"
Later as
a young man, having compared the two religions, he chose to embrace the
Catholic faith. His married sister rudely told him: "If one of my
children wanted to be a Catholic, I would rather poke a sword in his
belly!"
Shortly
after this her son fell ill. The doctors gave her no hope of his
recovery. Our Catholic then approached his sister: "Do you really want
your son to recover? Then please say a “Hail Mary” with me and promise
God that if the boy is cured, you will study the Catholic faith
seriously."
The
young mother accepted and recited a “Hail Mary” with her brother. The
next day, her son was completely healed! So she kept her promise to
study Catholic doctrine and after a long period of preparation,
converted.
