Saint Bridget of Sweden claims to have heard these words from the lips of the Mother of God:
"I can
say, quite boldly, that his pain was my pain and his heart was my heart.
Like Adam and Eve who sold the world for one fruit, My Son and I
redeemed the world with almost one heart. So, my daughter, imagine how I
felt at the death of my son and then it won’t seem too heavy a
sacrifice for you to leave the world." (Sermo angelicus, I, 1, c 35, ed.
Eklund, p. 56).
Saint Bridget says she even heard this from the mouth of the Son of God:
"I can
say that my Mother and I saved humanity as with one heart, I who
suffered in my heart and in my flesh, and she with the pain and love in
her heart." (Revelationes extravagantes, ed. C. Durante, Romae 1606, c
3, p. 804).
