Our Lady of Piat enthroned in its shrine in Piat (Wikipedia)
The Basilica of Our Lady of Piat is located in the outskirts of the city of Piat in the Cagayan Province of the Philippines.
In 1604,
Dominican Friars brought a statue of the Black Madonna known as "Our
Lady of the Holy Rosary" to the Philippines. Some years later, on
December 26, 1623, the statue was solemnly installed in a small chapel,
on the feast day of Saint Stephen. The event made a big impression on
people. Although the area was sparsely populated and had been
evangelized less than 25 years before, a huge crowd came to attend.
Later, the
statue of Our Lady of Piat was carried in procession to other cities in
the Philippines. This is why she is also called Our Lady of the
Visitation. Since the feast of the Visitation was celebrated on July 2
in the 17th century, this date still remains the feast day of the
shrine.
Miraculous healings continue to occur to this day through the intercession of Our Lady of Piat.
