MARY, OUR MOTHER

Mother Mary said at Fatima: "My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the sure way which will lead you to God." St. Thomas Aquinas said: "The things we love tell us who we are!" With that in mind, I will try to post each day something about Our Blessed Lady, items about the Holy Roman Catholic Church, and public domain Catholic books too! I pray you enjoy my ministry! Below are two albums of pictures that I created: 1. Our grand daughter Adrianna. 2. Tears of Mary!

The Adoration of the Magi, oil painting by Albrecht Dürer, 1504; …
(credit: Scala/Art Resource, New York)

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #53

And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And entering into the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down they adored him: (Matt. 2:10-11)

THE FEAST OF THE THREE MAGI, or the Feast of the Epiphany (Jan. 6th). The three wise men were the first Gentiles to whom our Lord manifested Himself as the Saviour of mankind; and as the representatives of the pagan world, which was sighing for its Redeemer, they offered their adoration to Him. We ought therefore, especially on this Feast, to thank God for the Christian faith, because our forefathers too were pagans; and we ought to praise the infinite love of God, who gave His only-begotten Son for the salvation of man.

“GOLDEN COMPASS” SPIN DOCTORS: WATCH VIDEO

Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented today as follows:

"The spin doctors for 'The Golden Compass' are working overtime to rescue the movie from Philip Pullman's agenda. Here's a sampling:

"In yesterday's Boston Globe, the film studio's house theologian, Donna Freitas, said Pullman's books 'are deeply Christian in their theology.' Then how does she explain why the English atheist organization, the National Secular Society, loves Pullman's books? And how does she explain Pullman's statement that he agrees with his character Mary Malone who, in The Amber Spyglass (the third volume of his trilogy), says, 'The Christian religion is a very powerful and convincing mistake'?

"In the current Newsweek, Pullman lashes out at me saying, 'To regard it [his storytelling] as this Donohue man has said—that I'm a militant atheist, and my intention is to convert people—how the hell does he know that?' That's easy—I just quote him: 'I'm trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief.'

"In his books, Pullman refers to 'Dust' as an invisible substance with mysterious qualities. To Dr. Spin, Freitas, 'Dust is the Holy Spirit.' Really? Then why did the screenwriter, Chris Weitz, tell Hanna Rosin of the Atlantic Monthly that the producers of the movie told him to take the following line out of the film: 'Dust is sin'?

"Weitz recently said it is 'wrongheaded' to say Pullman wants to 'kill God.' Yet Pullman has admitted that 'My books are about killing God.'

"Both Weitz and Pullman confess that their primary goal is to see that 'The Golden Compass' succeeds so that there will be a film version of books two and three. Weitz has said that the producer, New Line Cinema, has been concerned about the movie's 'perceived antireligiosity making it an unviable project financially.' Thus, the need to water down the anti-Catholicism. Pullman says he needs to be careful talking about his motives lest he 'talk the other two films out of existence.' To which I say, 'Keep talking and insert foot.'"

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #52

Then Herod, privately calling the wise men learned diligently of them the time of the star which appeared to them; And sending them into Bethlehem, said: "Go and diligently inquire after the child, and when you have found him, bring me word again, that I also may come and adore him."
Then Herod perceiving that he was deluded by the wise men, was exceeding angry: and sending killed all the menchildren that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. (Matt. 2:7-8; 2:16)

PRIDE IS A CAPITAL SIN. Herod formed the cruel resolve to kill the Messiah; and it was his pride, ambition and envy which led to this horrible design. In order to attain more surely his evil end, he dissembled and lied to the wise men, saying that he also wished to worship the Child. Lies and hypocrisy have been from the beginning the weapons used against Christ and His Church.

Call of the Prophets!

Mark

Mark Mallett

—Spiritual Food For Thought—

Call of the Prophets!

Elijah in the Desert, Michael D. O'Brien

Artist Commentary: Elijah the Prophet is exhausted and in flight from the queen, who seeks to take his life. He is discouraged, convinced that his mission from God has come to an end. He wishes to die in the desert. The greater part of his work is about to begin.

COME FORTH

IN that place of quiet before falling asleep, I heard what I felt was Our Lady, saying,

Prophets come forth!

I felt immediately it was a call to each of us to become signs of contradiction. That is, by living without compromise the Gospel, which contradicts the spirit of the world, we become "prophets" to this generation.

Through a Great Awakening, the Lord has been calling us to a pilgrim state: a life of simplicity, prayer, and poverty in spirit. It is then by this detachment from material goods; by a spirit of meekness and humility; by a courage and boldness to speak the truth with great love… these are the ways Mary is calling us to be prophets in the midst of this generation.

This is no new Gospel. But I feel our Mother saying we should take it up with unfettered commitment and zeal, stirring into flame the gift we have been given! In this way, our very lives will announce the goodness and dawning justice of the Lord. Our lives will shout the needed reform, repentance, and conversion of this generation.

By our lifestyle of contradiction, we become lamps, shining in the darkness:

Be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. (Phil2:12)

THE HEEL

Many readers of these meditations have heard the call to prepare for the transition, from this era into the next, which will occur through God's merciful judgment. Already the first streaks of dawn are appearing as the Refiner's Fire draws nearer.

And what happens as dawn nears? The morning star appears. Even though Revelation calls this Star Jesus, are we not His body? Is not Mary the preeminent member in this body? Indeed, she is, and we are the heel of Mary. Thus, the sign of the coming of Christ, the Rider upon a White Horse, is the rising up of the prophets to announce the dawning of a new Era of peace, mercy, and justice through lives which shine like the Morning Star.

But who are these prophets? Are they great charismatic leaders of our times? Possibly… but foremost, they are those who have been configured to the Son like Mary, who is gentle, meek, and most humble. Yes, the prophets whom God is calling forth are not the superstars, but the anawim… the small ones, the poor, the hidden—children of the Most High. They are the ones who are mocked, despised, and persecuted… who have forsaken the glory of this world for that of the next. They are fools for Christ who are seemingly nothing according to the world's standards, as a heel is often the most unattractive and ragged looking part of the Body.

But as our Lady's heel, these souls form an army.

THE ARMY OF GOD

The armies of heaven followed him, mounted on white horses and wearing clean white linen. Out of his mouth came a sharp sword to strike the nations. (Rev 19:14-15)

Who are these armies who follow Jesus? Are they the souls in Heaven, or the souls who are upon the earth? But isn't the Body of Christ one?

The armies which follow, then, are those whose lives became a living Word during their time on earth, and those still on earth whose lives are that Word now forming on the lips of Christ. All of them have been washed in the Blood of the Lamb, and thus wear the white garment of baptism, kept unstained through the Sacraments. The Sword with which Jesus strikes the nations is, in part, the witness of His Body incarnating His Word. They are the testimony which proclaims the just actions of God.

As Christ's physical body received the blows of His Passion and thus obliterated the spiritual judgment against us due to sin, so now, we who form his Mystical Body, receiving the blows and persecutions of the enemy, will be instruments by which the judgment upon creation caused by sin will be mitigated and souls will be saved. Our sufferings united with Christ's on Calvary, and united to the sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, will confound all the malice and designs of the adversary. It is the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart!

The word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword… the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who accuses them before our God day and night. They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony… (Heb 4:12; Rev 12:10-11)

Satan will be conquered by the word of our testimony and the vindication of Wisdom. Our testimony is our lives given up for Christ, even unto the shedding of blood. Saved by the Sword of His Word, we become that Word, His Body, and participate in the pronouncement of judgment upon the world by lives which contradict the lies of this generation, and light the way to Him who is the Truth.

These are His prophets, who share in the light of the Morning Star, and who give its light to mankind. Will you be counted among them?

Come forth!

We possess the prophetic message as something altogether reliable. Keep your attention closely fixed on it, as you would on a lamp shining in a dark place until the first streaks of dawn appear and the morning star rises in your hearts. (1 Pt 2:19)

FEAST DAY OF ST. CATHERINE LABOURE'

SAINT CATHERINE LABOURE'
Virgin

In 1830, 24 years before the dogma of the Immaculate Conception became an article of faith, Our Lady showed to Catherine Laboure', a Sister of Charity in Paris, the pattern of the medal that was to popularize this belief. During her 46 years of community life, Sister Catherine never revealed by word or sign the favors granted her by the Blessed Virgin, but gave herself in obscure devotion to the care of derelict old men. The medal has received the name of "Miraculous Medal," because of the many wonders God has worked by its means.

After the death of her earthly mother, St. Catherine Laboure shows us her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. St. Catherine was only nine years old.

"[St. Catherine] pulled a chair over beneath the shelf, for it was too high for her to reach, even if she stood on tiptoe. Climbing up on the chair, she stretched overhead and took down Our Lady's image…Throwing her arms about the statue, she hugged it close to her little body, as a child might fondle her favorite doll or teddy bear. But this was no doll. In a sense, it was no longer just a statue of Our Lady. It was Mary herself… 'Now, dear Blessed Mother' she said aloud with childlike fervor, 'now you will be my Mother!'"

Father Joseph Dirvin, Saint Catherine Laboure,(Tan
Books: 1984), 15-6.

Mass of a VIRGIN , except:

PRAYER
O Lord Jesus Christ, You blessed the holy virgin Catherine with the wondrous apparition of Your Immaculate Mother. May we follow the example of this saint in honoring Your most holy Mother with childlike devotion and obtain the happiness of eternal life; who lives and rules with God the Father.

SECRET PRAYER

May the prayer of the blessed virgin Catherine make our sacrifice pleasing to You, O Lord, so that as we celebrate it in her honor it may be acceptable to You through her merits. Through Our Lord . . .

POSTCOMMUNION PRAYER
Be merciful to Your servants, O Lord, so that we, who have been wonderously refreshed by these Holy Rites, may now live a virtuous life through the example of blessed Catherine. Through Our Lord . . .

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #51

And king Herod hearing this, was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And assembling together all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where Christ should be born. But they said to him: "In Bethlehem of Juda. For so it is written by the prophet: 'And thou Bethlehem the land of Juda art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come forth the captain that shall rule my people Israel.' " (Matt. 2:3-6)

THE INDIFFERENCE shown by the chief priests and scribes is almost inconceivable. They received through the wise men certain tidings of the wonderful star, and they knew accurately the prophecies about the Redeemer; but they did not co-operate with the grace received, and did not stir a foot to seek the Messiah. They showed the wise men where the Messiah was to be found, but they themselves remained at home. They waited for the Saviour to come to them; and when, later on, He did come to them, they would not receive Him, because He was poor and humble, but persecuted Him and nailed Him to the Cross!

Have an Unpolitically Correct Christmas]

'Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.

Why the PC Police
had taken away,
The reason for Christmas -
no one could say.

The children were told
by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men
and Angels and things.

It might hurt people's feelings,
the teachers would say
December 25th
is just a 'Holiday.'

Yet the shoppers were ready
with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down
to the floor just to get it!

CDs from Madonna,
an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing,
something quite odd!

Retailers promoted
Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by
Franken &Fonda.

As Targets were hanging
their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas -
was no where to be found.

At K-Mart and Staples
and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas;
it won't touch your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive,
Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used
to intimidate me.

Now Daschle, Now Darden,
Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather,
on Kerry, on Clinton!

At the top of the Senate,
there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus,
in all public mat ter.

And we spoke not a word,
as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak
of salvation and grace.

The true Gift of Christmas
was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season,
stopped before it started.

So as you celebrate 'Winter Break'
under your 'Dream Tree'
Sipping your Starbucks,
listen to me.

Choose your words carefully,
choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS,
not Happy Holiday!

CHRISTMAS CENSORS ARE OUT IN FORCE

Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented today on efforts to censor Christmas:

"We haven't hit December yet and already the politically correct police are out in force trying to censor Christmas. Here's a sample:

  • For 75 years, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce sponsored the 'Hollywood Christmas Parade.' When it refused to sponsor the parade this year, the L.A. City Council took over, renaming it the 'Hollywood Santa Parade.'

  • The Department of Housing and Urban Development has censored Christmas religious symbols from its housing complexes.

  • No Christmas decorations are allowed on school buses in parts of Vermont.

  • A Jewish public official in Wisconsin wants to rename the State Capitol Holiday Tree the Christmas Tree, but is being opposed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

  • Chattanooga has banned a live nativity scene from its public festivities.

  • Sonoma City Council has nixed religious displays on the Plaza.

  • Voters in Berkley, Michigan have forbidden a crèche at City Hall.

  • Fort Collins, Colorado says it is okay to have green and red lights outside city buildings, but only secular symbols are allowed inside.

  • After Briarcliff Manor, New York was ordered to erect a crèche next to a menorah, the village elected to ban all religious symbols.

  • Residents in Olean, New York are fighting over privately owned nativity scenes being displayed in city parks.

  • A nativity scene in front of the Ypsilanti Township fire hall in Michigan has been banned.

  • No religious symbols are allowed in Seattle-Tacoma airport, but trees made of cardboard are legit.

  • Nativity scenes at Texas Tech are not permissible, but a tree is okay. The official in charge says, 'We're not saying it's a holiday tree, because it's a Christmas tree, but we choose to do a tasteful tree that really anybody can embrace.' Great idea!

"There you have it. The multicultural monsters are rearing their ugly heads once again, showing what they really mean by tolerance for diversity."

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #50

And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them and the brightness of God shone round about them: and they feared with a great fear. And the angel said to them: "Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy that shall be to all the people: For, this day is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David. And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger."
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest: and on earth peace to men of good will." (Luke 2:9-14)

TRUE CORRESPONDENCE WITH GRACE: When our Lord was born, the angels sang: "Peace on earth to men of good will!" Now the Magi were men of good will. They co-operated with grace, and therefore obtained peace and salvation. How did the three wise men correspond with grace? It was grace which made them see the star and understand its meaning. No doubt many other wise men in the East understood that the star indicated the Birth of the Messiah; but they did not stir to obey its divine invitation to seek for the Messiah. But these three did obey the invitation of grace, and, leaving home and friends, undertook the far journey to Judea. By corresponding faithfully with this first grace, they obtained the further one of learning in Jerusalem the place where the Messiah was born. And because they believed the prophecy of Micheas and went to Bethlehem, God not only showed them the way to the Child's abode, but illuminated them interiorly, so that they understood the mystery of the Incarnation, and worshiped the Child Jesus with divine worship. They so faithfully preserved this faith in the Divine Saviour that, according to a trustworthy tradition, they were counted worthy to suffer martyrdom for their faith, and are venerated as Saints by the Church. All this should impress upon us the important doctrine that the more a man co-operates with the grace given to him, the more worthy will he be to receive further and greater graces from God.

TRADITIONAL FEAST DAY
OUR LADY OF THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL
(1830)
The Blessed Virgin May appeared to the young Sister Catherine Laboure while she was at prayer with the Sisters in a chapel in Paris. Our Lady appeared in an oval frame, standing on a globe of the world. She was dressed in a white robe with a blue cloak edged with silver, having as it were diamonds in Her hands from which fell streams of golden rays upon the earth. A voice was heard saying: "These rays are the graces that Mary obtains for men." Then golden words formed around the oval: "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee!" The oval picture then turned around, and on the reverse side the Sister saw the letter M, with a cross above it, having a crosspiece at its base, and below the letter the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, the former surrounded by a crown of thorns, and the latter pierced with a sword. Then the voice said: "A medal must be struck on this pattern; the persons who shall carry it with indulgences attached to it, and shall offer the above prayer, shall enjoy a very special protection from the Mother of God."The medal was struck and spread all over the world, and immediately the most wonderful conversions and cures attested to its miraculous efficacy. Devout Catholics everywhere attest to its wonder-working power!

PRAYER
O Lord Jesus Christ, Who hast willed that the most blessed Virgin Mary, Thy mother, sinless from the first moment of her conception, should be glorified by countless miracles: grant that we, who never cease from imploring her patronage, may attain in the end to eternal happiness. Who livest and reignest, with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, . . .

Adoration of the Magi - 1481-1482 by Sandro Botticelli

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #49

When Jesus therefore was born in Bethlehem of Juda, in the days of king Herod, behold, there came wise men from the East to Jerusalem, Saying: Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and are come to adore him. And king Herod hearing this, was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And assembling together all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where Christ should be born. But they said to him: In Bethlehem of Juda. For so it is written by the prophet: And thou Bethlehem the land of Juda art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come forth the captain that shall rule my people Israel. Then Herod, privately calling the wise men learned diligently of them the time of the star which appeared to them; And sending them into Bethlehem, said: Go and diligently inquire after the child, and when you have found him, bring me word again, that I also may come and adore him. Who having heard the king, went their way; and behold the star which they had seen in the East, went before them, until it came and stood over where the child was. And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And entering into the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down they adored him. (Matt. 2:1-11)

THE PROPERTIES OF FAITH: It is impossible not to admire the strong and living faith of the three wise men. They believed in the prophecy, from which they knew that the Redeemer would appear in Judea, and that His advent would be heralded by a star. As soon, therefore, as they perceived the wonderful star, they set off on the road to Judea. Full of a holy desire to behold and worship the the Saviour, they did not shrink from the dangers or difficulties of the long journey. Nor did they despond when the star disappeared, but traveled on courageously, and sought in Jerusalem further information as to the place where the Saviour was to be born. Here, however, their faith was severely tried; for nobody in Jerusalem knew anything about the Redeemer's birth. It was they who first brought the tidings of it to the city, and the tidings did not awaken feelings of joy, but of trouble. This might easily aroused within them doubts as to whether the sign in the heavens had deceived them; but they gave no place to such doubts, remaining firm in faith and unshaken by the opinion of others. They believed the prophecy of Micheas and the interpretation of it given by the chief priests and scribes, and, while it was still night, started for Bethlehem. No one from Jerusalem accompanied them; they traveled all alone to the city of David. One might have thought that all Jerusalem would have flocked with them to seek the Missiah; but no! Even the priests, doubtful and skeptical, remained behind, and left it to the Gentile kings to discover the new-born Saviour. This was by no means encouraging for the wise men, but they remained steadfast, and did not suffer their firm faith to be shaken. As a reward for their constancy, the wonderful star re-appeared, and led them to the house where the Child Jesus and His Mother had found a lodging. There, in a poor dwelling, they beheld a little Child with His poor and humble Maiden-Mother; and inspired by divine grace they threw themselves on their knees and, full of a living faith, worshiped this infant as their God and Saviour. "Would they have done this," asks St. Augustine, "if they had not recognized Him as the Eternal King?"

Our Lady's Latest Message

Our Lady's Message of
November 25, 2007

"Dear children! Today, when you celebrate Christ, the King of all that is created, I desire for Him to be the King of your lives. Only through giving, little children, can you comprehend the gift of Jesus´ sacrifice on the Cross for each of you. Little children, give time to God that He may transform you and fill you with His grace, so that you may be a grace for others. For you, little children, I am a gift of grace and love, which comes from God for this peaceless world. Thank you for having responded to my call."

The Day is Coming

The Day is Coming

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING

For lo, the day is coming, blazing like an oven… (Mal 3:19)

A STRONG WARNING

I do not want to punish aching mankind, but I desire to heal it, pressing it to My Merciful Heart. I use punishment when they themselves force Me to do so… (Jesus, to St. Faustina, Diary, n. 1588)

The so-called "illumination of conscience" or "warning" may be drawing near. I have long felt that it may come in the midst of a great calamity if there is not a response of contrition for the sins of this generation; if there is not an end to the horrible evil of abortion; to the experimentation with human life in our "laboratories;" to the continuing deconstruction of marriage and the family—the foundation of society.  While the Holy Father continues to encourage us with encyclicals of love and hope, we should not fall into the error of presumption that the destruction of lives is insignificant.

I want to share the words of a soul whom I believe is a prophet for our day. With all prophecy, it must be prayerfully discerned. But these words confirm what has been written on this website, and what I feel the Lord is saying with urgency today:

My people, the time of warning that has been foretold is soon to come to light. I have patiently pleaded with you, My people, yet too many of you continue to give yourselves to the ways of the world. Now is the time to take special heed to My words and embrace those in your families who are furthest away from Me. Now is the time to stand up and witness to them, for so many will be caught off guard. Welcome this time of persecution, for all who are mocked and persecuted for My sake will be rewarded in My kingdom.

This is a time when My faithful are being called to deep prayer. For in the blink of an eye you may be standing before Me. Do not rely on the things of man, rather, rely on the will of your Heavenly Father, for mans ways are not My ways and this world will be swiftly brought to its knees.

Amen! Amen, I say to you, for whoever takes heed to my words and lives for the kingdom will find the greatest reward with their Heavenly Father. Do not be like the foolish man who waits for the earth to begin to rock and tremble, for then you may perish… —Catholic seer, "Jennifer"; Words From Jesus, p. 183

IN THE WORD

David also prophesied of a time when the Lord would visit His people in the midst of a great trial:

Then the earth reeled and rocked; the mountains were shaken to their base: they reeled at his terrible anger. Smoke came forth from his nostrils and scorching fire from his mouth: coals were set ablaze from its heat.

He lowered the heavens and came down, a black cloud under his feet. He came enthroned on the cherubim, he flew on the wings of the wind. He made the darkness his covering, the dark waters of the clouds, his tent. A brightness shone out before him with hailstones and flashes of fire.

The Lord thundered in the heavens; the Most High let his voice be heard. (Psalm 18)

Christ is our King, a just king. His judgments are merciful because He loves us. But chastisements can be mitigated through prayer and fasting.

"And let us not say that it is God who is punishing us in this way; on the contrary it is people themselves who are preparing their own punishment. In his kindness God warns us and calls us to the right path, while respecting the freedom he has given us; hence people are responsible." --Sr. Lucia, one of the Fatima visionaries, in a letter to the Holy Father, May 12th, 1982.

Let us enter into the deep prayer of the Bastion, especially in intercession for the many souls who remain asleep at this late hour. Let us love them without counting the cost.

Do not despise the sinner for we are all guilty. If, for love of God, you rise up against him, mourn for him instead. Why do you despise him? Despise his sins but pray for him so that you may be like Christ, who did not get annoyed with sinners but prayed for them. Can't you see how he wept over Jerusalem? For we, too, have been duped by the devil more than once. So why despise him whom the devil, who mocks us all, has deceived just like us? Why, O man, despise the sinner? Is it because he is not as just as you are yourself? But what happens to your justice from the moment you are without love? Why did you not weep for him? Instead, you persecute him. It is through ignorance that certain people get upset, believing themselves to have discernment into the deeds of sinners. —Saint Isaac the Syrian, 7th century monk

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #48

Saying: Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and are come to adore him. Then Herod, privately calling the wise men learned diligently of them the time of the star which appeared to them; Who having heard the king, went their way; and behold the star which they had seen in the East, went before them, until it came and stood over where the child was. And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. (Matt. 2:2; 2:7; 2:9-10)

JESUS CHRIST IS GOD AND THE REDEEMER OF ALL MANKIND, OF JEWS AS WELL AS GENTILES: He proved Himself to be such by revealing Himself after His Birth, first to the Jewish shepherds by means of His angels, and then to the Gentile Magi by means of His star. He manifested Himself as the Omnipotent God, and the Lord of hosts (of the angels and of the stars).

FROM MEJ.COM:

The Field of Apparitions ©COB

The very first time Our Lady appeared in the Field was on Thanksgiving Day and the date was November 24, 1988. On November 24, 1988, Our Lady gave a message. She said:

"I invite you to live my messages. I am here to help you! I will intercede for you to God for all your intentions."

From that time on, the Field became a place of pilgrimage, a place where tens of thousands have come over the years to have an encounter with Our Lady in prayer and to lay before Her their needs. It is a place, that also has great significance for our nation, consecrated to Our Lady's heart for its return to God. And it is a place where the Community of Caritas gathers every day to give thanks to God and Our Lady for this way of life given to the Community. It is the place, where July 1-5, 2008 , Our Lady will be with us again to pray for the conversion and healing of our nation. Make your plans to come now!

A Way of Life ©COB

The children in the Community of Caritas learn so much about God the Creator in their daily life here. Pictured here are two of the children watching a couple of our mama pigs nursing and taking care of the litters of piglets. From cows to horses to pigs to chickens, the children are raised in an environment where they can experience the miracles of God's providence in their every day life.

"If you want to be very happy, live a simple, humble life, pray a great deal, do not delve into your problems, but let yourselves be guided by God." (1984)

Pray for Peace!

AMERICA/UNITED STATES -

The President of the United States Catholic Bishops' Conference urges Catholics to pray for peace in the Holy Land and announces Day of Prayer for Peace Sunday 25 November
Washington (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Francis George, Archbishop of Chicago and newly elected president of the United States Catholic Bishops' Conference, has asked all Catholics to pray for peace in the Holy Land. The appeal was made in view of an International Peace Conference in Annapolis on Tuesday 27 November, for a just peace between Israelis and Palestinians. "For decades our Bishops' Conference has worked and prayed for peace in the Holy Land. In recent years we have joined Jewish, Christian and Muslim religious leaders in an international interreligious initiative for peace in the Middle East to find a solution to the conflict between the two peoples". said Cardinal George.
As part of this united effort the president of the US Bishops' Conference has asked Catholics in every parish in the United States to offer special prayers for peace in the Middle East this Sunday 25 November. However he says it will be necessary to pray all this week and to continue because the path to a just and lasting peace is still long.

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #47

And thou Bethlehem Ephrata, art a little one among the thousands of Juda, out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be the ruler in Israel: and his going forth is from the beginning, from the days of eternity. (Micheas 5:2)

FAITHFULNESS OF GOD: He caused the prophecy uttered by Micheas to be fulfilled, and, by a wonderful chain of circumstances, carried out His design that the Redeemer should be born at Bethlehem.

Refiner's Fire

Mark

Mark Mallett

—Spiritual Food For Thought—

Refiner's Fire

But who will endure the day of his coming? And who can stand when he appears? For he is like the refiner's fire… (Mal 3:2)

I BELIEVE we are drawing nearer and nearer to the dawning of The Day of the Lord. As a sign of this, we are beginning to feel the heat of the approaching Sun of Justice. That is, there seems to be a growing intensity in purifying trials as we near the Refiner's Fire… just as one does not need to touch the flames to feel the fire's heat.

OF THAT DAY

The prophet Zechariah speaks of a remnant who will enter into a time of global restoration on the earth, an Era of Peace, before the Lord's Final Return:

See, your king shall come to you… The warrior's bow shall be banished, and he shall proclaim peace to the nations. His dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth. (Zech 9:9-10)

Zechariah numbers this remnant approximately one third of the inhabitants of the earth. This third will enter this Era through a Great Purification:

In all the land, says the LORD, two thirds of them shall be cut off and perish, and one third shall be left. I will bring the one third through fire, and I will refine them as silver is refined, and I will test them as gold is tested.  (Zech 13:8-9)

So, as St. Peter says, do not feel "as if something strange were happening to you." Enter the desert of purification, for this is the only passageway to the Promised Land. Rejoice that you are made to suffer for the sake of the Gospel, for enduring whatever trials come while trusting in God and accepting them as His will, is in fact suffering for the Gospel.

Do not be discouraged.

DISCOURAGEMENT

One of the main reasons Satan throws spiritual noise at us (see The Thirteenth Man) is to bring about confusion. It is in this state of poverty that many of us give in to the temptation to become discouraged. Yes, confusion is the footprint of discouragement.

I believe it was St. Pio who said that the chief weapon of the enemy is discouragement. Other great spiritual directors such as St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Alphonsus of Liguori teach that, second only to sin, discouragement is Satan's most effective temptation.

If we contemplate our misery without raising our eyes to God, the Father of mercies, we will easily become discouraged. By examining ourselves thoroughly, we will see that discouragement always comes from two closely related causes. The first is that we depend upon our own strength; through it our pride is wounded and deceived when we fall. The second is that we lack reliance on God; we do not think of referring to Him in times of prosperity, nor do we have recourse to Him when we fail Him. In short, we act by ourselves: we try to succeed alone, we fall alone, and alone we contemplate our fall. The result of such conduct can only be discouragement. —Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalene, Divine Intimacy

If you let your heart become once again like a little child, the dark clouds of discouragement will evaporate, the roaring crowd of internal noise will gradually fall silent, and you will no longer feel you are alone on the field facing impossible odds. If you are in a situation beyond your strength and control, abandon yourself to God's will, expressed in this cross.

If you are discouraged because of your sinfulness, do not depend on your virtue or the strength of your case before God. Rather, depend entirely upon His mercy, for no one is righteous. We are all sinners. But this is not a cause for discouragement, for Christ came for sinners!

God never rejects the sincere, even if they have a mountain of sins and failures in their past. For faith, the size of a mustard seed—that is, trust in God's mercy and the free gift of salvation—can move mountains.

My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit; a heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn. (Psalm 51)

You should not be discouraged, because if there is in the soul a continual effort to improve, the Lord will finally reward you by suddenly making all the virtues blossom in you as in a garden full of flowers. —St. Pio

LOVE

Lastly, let us remember that in the end we will be judged not on how loved we feel, but on how much we ourselves have loved. There is a danger in our trials of becoming too introspective—spending the day gazing at our misery and misfortune. Jesus provides us with the greatest antidote to discouragement, fear, sense of abandonment, and spiritual paralysis: love.

How can we rejoice in the Lord if He is far from us? … If He is, that is your doing. Love, and He will draw near; love, and He will dwell within you… Are you puzzled to know how it is that He will be with you if you love? God is love. —St. Augustine, from a sermon; Liturgy of the Hours, Vol IV, p. 551

Let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins. (1 Pt 4:8)

Blessed Miguel Agustin Feast Day

"Long live Christ the King!"

80th anniversary of martyrdom of Mexican priest to be observed Friday, Nov. 23

Father Miguel Agustín Pro, a Jesuit priest, was executed on Nov. 23, 1927, without due process, by direct and personal orders from Mexican dictator Plutarco Elías Calles, who falsely accused Pro of involvement in an assassination attempt 10 days earlier against former president Álvaro Obregón.

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #46

And having received an answer in sleep that they should not return to Herod, they went back another way into their country. (Matt. 2:12)

THE OMNISCIENCE OF GOD: He knew exactly the thoughts both of Herod and of the wise men. He knew that the latter, in their guilelessness, would show Herod the place where the Child lived, and He knew that Herod was resolved on the death of the Child. Therefore He bade the wise men return home another way.

VATICAN - AVE MARIA -
How great is Mary!
Mgr. Luciano Alimandi

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Next Sunday we will celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King, and today is the feast of the Presentation of Our Lady at the Temple: the purest of creatures is offered to God, she is consecrated to Him to prepare the way for the King of kings! Our Lady offered her whole self to the Father, every fibre of her totally pure, spotless and immaculate being. In a mysterious manner, year after year, without her knowing it, Divine Providence prepares Mary to become the Temple of the Son of God, His virginal dwelling place on earth, the One who was to give Him as the Saviour, to the world!

A most holy child was consecrated for ever to Almighty God who was to work great wonders in her for the benefit of all peoples. The King will come and He has come because the Queen was ready to welcome Him!

Only most holy Mary was able, thanks to divine grace, to become the Mother of God and therefore to be elevated to a dignity which St Thomas Aquinas describes as almost “infinite”: “the Blessed Virgin Mary, as Mother of God, has a dignity which in a way is infinite, since it comes from God, who is infinite goodness” (St Tommaso d'Aquino, Summa Theologiae, I, q. 25, a. 6). Do we meditate enough on these words of the Doctor of the Church?

The Holy Spirit came only upon her to work the greatest miracle of all times: “the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us ” (Jn 1, 14). Those who look to Mary, filled with pure and simple faith as Jesus wished her to be, contemplating the mystery of the Incarnation of God, cannot fail to be amazed at the greatness of the Virgin Mother. In the plan of salvation God gave her a unique role: to be the Mother of the Redeemer and therefore the Mother of all the redeemed.

This universal role of Mary is gradually discovered and we Christians of the 21st century have certainly not reached the “end stop" in knowledge of Mary; nor can our praises ever be sufficient to exalt her greatness. “De Maria nunquam satis”, goes a famous saying, and this is true also in our day! The Church's bi-millennial experience says clearly that the prophecy of the Magnificat comes true regularly, in every century, in a very evident manner: “All generations will call me blessed".

Like Elizabeth who exclaimed “blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb! Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord?” (Lk 1, 42-43), because she recognised in Her the unique dignity of the Mother of the Saviour, so too the pilgrim people of God, discovers in Mary ever new wonders and, filled with the Holy Spirit and under the guidance of the Church's Teaching, sings her praises, and tirelessly invokes her and bears witness to her greatness.

To call Mary “blessed" means not only to venerate her but also to know the depth and breadth of the graces contained in her vocation which are poured out into the heart of every person on earth. Every true mother gives all she has to her children, communicating her very life to them; how much more then, the Mother of mothers! Authentic Marian devotion is nourished with loving knowledge of the Mother of God which cannot fail to generate filial witness of our belonging to her. Yes, Mary is great and powerful because she is the Mother of our Redeemer who entrusted us to her from the cross: “woman behold your son”!

“Donna sei tanto grande e tanto vali / che chi vuol grazia e a Te non ricorre / sua disianza vuol volar senz’ali”. These poetic verses which Dante dedicated to Our Lady in the Divina Commedia, clearly express Mary's maternal mediation: those who wish to experience miracles of grace should turn with confidence to the Mother of God and, as at Cana, Jesus will transform the events of our fragile existence changing their quality and turning them into events of mercy.

Our Lady walks beside her Son on the paths of the world and along the mysterious ways of the Spirit, she introduces Him in community and personal history, into our banquets, urging him to work the miracle which seems impossible, but which, with Her is achieved: the miracle of holiness. This power of Mary is revealed in those who turn to her and say with joy: “blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb! Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord?"

God’s Creation Smiling Through Nature

Birds Smiling ©COB

Our Lady's messages are living messages that will apply to our lives the day She gives them or a year later, or several years later. The above picture is yet another proof of this. Read the message Our Lady gave over 17 years ago on March 25, 1990:

"…God wants to save you and sends you messages through men, nature, and so many things…"

May this Thanksgiving be a day filled with thanksgiving to God the Creator for the signs and all the blessings He has given to each of us. Know that you are in our prayers.

In grateful thanksgiving to the Father,

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #45

For a CHILD IS BORN to us, and a son is given to us, and the government is upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, God the Mighty, the Father of the world to come, the Prince of Peace. His empire shall be multiplied, and there shall be no end of peace: he shall sit upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom; to establish it and strengthen it with judgment and with justice, from henceforth and for ever: the zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. (Isa. 9:6-7)

THE TESTIMONY OF THE HOLY GHOST: There had been no prophets in Israel since Malachias; but as soon as the Messiah had appeared, the gift of prophecy was richly bestowed on those who believed. Zachary, Elizabeth, Mary, Simeon and Anna, all proclaimed the goodness of God, who had given His only begotten Son for the salvation of the world. "For four hundred years the spirit of prophecy had been dumb in Israel: it was a long and dreary winter, but it was followed by the most glorious spring-tide! Song filled the air; for He had come whose name was Wonderful! The angel Gabriel, Mary, Zachary, Elizabeth, the angel who spoke to the shepherds, Simeon, and Anna basked in the ray of salvation which streamed down from heaven. Heaven itself streamed down with it; and the sons of the earth lifted up their heads with a feeling of rapture, for the Prince of Peace had come and reconciled earth to heaven! The great God, the 'Father of the world to come' (Isa. 9:6) lay a little Babe in Mary's arms" (Friedrich Leopold, Count zu Stolberg). Thus was the advent of Jesus Christ, the Divine Redeemer, borne witness to in various ways.

Leftists attack Mexico City’s Metropolitan Cathedral during Sunday Mass

"They broke in kicking down the doors"

The doors to the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City have been closed indefinitely following a Sunday, Nov. 18, incident during which about 150 militants of the left-leaning Party of the Democratic Revolution violently broke in during Sunday's noon Mass and tried to take over the altar, the Archdiocese of Mexico announced.

The Thirteenth Man

Mark

Mark Mallett

—Spiritual Food For Thought—

The Thirteenth Man

AS I have traveled throughout parts of Canada and America in the past several months and spoken with many souls, there is a consistent trend: marriages and relationships are under fierce attack, especially Christian marriages. Bickering, nitpicking, impatience, seemingly unresolvable differences and unusual tension. This is accentuated even further by financial stress and an overwhelming sense that time is racing beyond one's ability to keep up.

THE NOISE

In North American football, the noise level of a crowd is often considered a great advantage. The 12-man offensive team counts upon audible signals from the quarterback, and hence, the noise can create confusion, mis-calls, and other blunders. As such, the crowd is sometimes called "the thirteenth man."

I believe the current spiritual noise is a massive bombardment by the enemy using the "the thirteenth man." As one friend recently wrote,

Satan is screaming hard because he is losing the fight. He screams the loudest before he is conquered.

Yes, the ancient serpent hears the thunder of hooves, the Rider Upon a White Horse approaching on the offensive. And so Satan is squirming, snarling, and lashing out with all his might to distract believers by creating all kinds of spiritual noise.

It is a diversion.

A DIVERSION

As many of my readers know here, this column was inspired by the Lord to blow a trumpet & prepare for great and seemingly imminent changes. The sense within the Body of Christ is that these changes are at the very door. I am hearing this constantly now, and the consistency is striking. calling the Church and the world to

The diversion is to distract us from being ready! (And ultimately, we must be ready to go Home at any moment. This is the true spirit in which Christians must live, with our hearts fixed upon Heaven in the hope of eternal life—but our souls living in the present moment of God's will.)

But you, brothers, are not in darkness for that day to overtake you like a thief. For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober. (1 Thess 5:4-6)

This attack on the Body of Christ makes sense if we are approaching that moment when the Spear of Truth will pierce each of our hearts. The enemy wants our minds scattered, diverted, and if possible, immersed in sin, even mortal sin, so that that day may catch us by surprise… like a thief in the night.

SHOP TALK

Recently, I walked into a carpentry shop where my friend and another Christian were having a discussion. Without knowing that I was working on this meditation, one of them said,

I believe that there are options coming which will be presented to society and which the Body of Christ will have to choose. And unless we're listening now to the Holy Spirit and walking with the Lord, we won't have the grace to be able to discern what we should do. We will be caught without oil in our lamps like five of the ten virgins in the Gospel (cf. Matt 25).

I believe all the current problems and trials we are facing right now are distractions to keep us from hearing what God wants us to do.

Part of the context of the discussion was whether or not Christians should accept a micro-chip under their skin, if the time comes.

We need to be listening, preparing, and praying now. Remember Lot's wife. Remember, too, that when the rain began to fall in the Great Deluge, the doors of the Ark were shut and locked. It may be that the Lord will give some souls a final grace even as the "rain" of chastisement and purification begins to fall in our times. But we cannot presume upon this, delaying our true and deep conversion until the very last moment, because that would be the sin of presumption, and presumption is the enemy of real faith.

The time to repent is now.

BEGIN AGAIN

The antidote to this heinous attack on relationships is more simple than people think: humble yourself. It is precisely this imitation of Christ to which we are always called:

Humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but also everyone for those of others. Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus… who emptied himself, taking the form of a slave… he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. (Phil 2:3-8)

The enemy wants us to jump up and down right now, defending ourselves by any and every means, justifying our every word and action—especially when we're right. But Christ remained silent before Pontius Pilate. The enemy wants us to become discouraged, to believe that everything is collapsing around us randomly and without reason. But Jesus revealed that everything, including His death, is guided by the will of the Father. Satan wants us to become deeply anxious about finances, relationships, and world events, and to make spiritual blunders by combating this anxiety with worldly consolations. But Jesus proclaimed that He had already conquered the world—before His death—showing us, therefore, that in dying to ourselves and letting go of our control over all matters, we enter into the unseen victory.

Fire burns, but it also purifies. Winter strips, but it prepares for the spring. The nails pierce, but by these wounds we are healed.

THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE

If you wish to diffuse Satan's snares and silence the thirteenth man, then enter the path of humility. Forget the other person's faults and even injustices, and look rather within your own heart to find those areas where you are mistaken, where you have been proud and stubborn, where you have done wrong, and enter the purifying fire of Confession.

It is a great virtue to overlook the faults of another. It is also incredibly liberating. For in fixing your eyes for a moment upon your own wretchedness, you will recognize your own need for mercy. The truth will set you free. In this way, the seedlings of compassion can take root in your heart, and you will find grace to be a peacemaker, rather than a judge. The stronghold of division, at least within your own heart, will collapse; for it is pride which supports this ugly edifice.

Lastly, forgive. Forgiveness is the great hammer which absolutely shatters the chains of bitterness. It is a choice, however, and often one we must recommit to daily until all the poison of injury is drawn from the soul.

Humility and forgiveness. Their offspring is peace.

Whatever situation you are in right now, even if it feels absolutely overwhelming, abandon yourself completely to God's will which has permitted this trial, awaiting the moment when He will come to your aid. Do not be afraid, for even though the thirteenth man is loud, he isn't even on the field.

Beloved, do not be surprised that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as if something strange were happening to you. But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly. (1 Pt 4:12-13)

Why, LORD, do you stand at a distance and pay no heed to these troubled times? …But you do see; you do observe this misery and sorrow; you take the matter in hand. To you the helpless can entrust their cause… You listen, LORD, to the needs of the poor; you encourage them and hear their prayers. (Psalm 10)

Quotes from 'The Glories of Mary':

‘I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head.’

(Gen. 3:15)

“Since the devil is the head of original sin, this head it was that Mary crushed: for sin never had any entry into the soul of this Blessed Virgin, which was consequently free from all stain.”

MARY, OUR MOTHER

Mother Mary said at Fatima: "My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the sure way which will lead you to God." With that in mind, I will try to post each day something about Our Blessed Lady, items about the Holy Roman Catholic Church, and public domain Catholic books too! I pray you enjoy my ministry!

Below is a slide show of pictures that I have collected:

Tears of Mary!

Have a look!

Jeremiah 14:17; 15:18

"Let my eyes shed down tears night and day, and let them not cease, because the Virgin daughter of my people is afflicted with an exceedingly grievous evil. / Why is my sorrow become perpetual, and my wound desperate so as to refuse to be healed?"

PSALM 71 SPEAKS TO MY HEART

Forsake Me Not When My Strength Is Spent

In you, O Lord, do I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame!
In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
incline your ear to me, and save me!

Be to me a rock of refuge,
to which I may continually come;
you have given the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.

Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man.
For you, O Lord, are my hope,
my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
Upon you I have leaned from before my birth;
you are he who took me from my mother's womb.
My praise is continually of you.

I have been as a portent to many,
but you are my strong refuge.
My mouth is filled with your praise,
and with your glory all the day.
Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
forsake me not when my strength is spent.

For my enemies speak concerning me;
those who watch for my life consult together
and say, “God has forsaken him;
pursue and seize him,
for there is none to deliver him.”

O God, be not far from me;
O my God, make haste to help me!
May my accusers be put to shame and consumed;
with scorn and disgrace may they be covered
who seek my hurt.

But I will hope continually
and will praise you yet more and more.
My mouth will tell of your righteous acts,
of your deeds of salvation all the day,
for their number is past my knowledge.

With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come;
I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.

O God, from my youth you have taught me,
and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.

So even to old age and gray hairs,
O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might to another generation,
your power to all those to come.
Your righteousness, O God,
reaches the high heavens.
You who have done great things,
O God, who is like you?

You who have made me see many troubles and calamities
will revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
you will bring me up again.
You will increase my greatness
and comfort me again.

I will also praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
O Holy One of Israel.
My lips will shout for joy,
when I sing praises to you;
my soul also, which you have redeemed.

And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long,
for they have been put to shame and disappointed
who sought to do me hurt.

Welcome to my Marian Blog

As you can tell from my postings, I'm in love with Mother Mary, who has taken me under her mantle of protection, has taught and led me to Her Divine Son, Jesus; Who in turn has led me, in the Holy Spirit, to the Eternal Father!

Two prayers that I say often tell who I am:
Come O Holy Spirit; Come by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Your well-beloved Spouse.

O Most Holy Trinity, I adore Thee. My God, my God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
