On one side there were three persons, identified as Saint Joseph, Mary the Mother of God (crowned as Queen) and Saint John the Apostle. But the center of the vision was a Lamb, standing on an altar, with a large cross behind it and angels circling; a strong light came from the Lamb. There was no spoken message; some 15 witnesses gave their testimony to what they had seen, which lasted two hours in the rain. A commission concluded that their testimonies were trustworthy... It’s worth noting that the pastor at the time of the apparition, Father Bartholomew Kavanagh, a young priest known for his piety and service to the poor, had just finished celebrating 100 consecutive Masses for the Holy Souls in Purgatory (especially for all those who had died without the sacraments in times of famine). Prayers needed: Priest stabbed to death in central Philippines

Tanjay (Agenzia Fides) - Catholic priest Antonio Magalso, 44, was stabbed to death yesterday morning, 29 September, in the city of Tanjay, Negros Island, central Philippines. This was confirmed to Agenzia Fides by Fr. Nathaniel B. Gomez, dean of St. Catherine College and priest of the diocesan clergy of Dumaguete diocese. "We are deeply shocked by a cold-blooded murder which is totally baseless. Fr. Magalso was a simple parish priest, much loved by his people, dedicated to the pastoral life. He was not an activist priest engaged in other battles. The murder was not motivated by theft: the police are investigating", reports Fr. Gomez. The priest was going to celebrate Mass in a village of his parish, when he was stabbed to death. He was brought to the hospital, but unfortunately was already dead. Thanks to some witnesses, the murderer was caught by the police and is being interrogated, it seems he is a man with mental problems.


As Fides learns, in the Diocese of Dumaguete Bishop Julito Cortes has announced "a holy hour of adoration in all parishes to pray for Fr. Magalso and his murderer". The Bishop went to the parish of the Holy Cross, where the priest was pastor, bringing consolation and encouragement to the community, asking "courage and prayer" and to "live this moment in an atmosphere of penance and mercy".
Fr. Magalso was also committed to evangelization, being the head of the Diocesan Commission of the Biblical Apostolate. "We are dismayed by this loss and also the people are very sad" said Fr. Gomez. The diocesan community will celebrate a Mass in the cathedral on October 5, the funeral will be celebrated on October 7 in his native village. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 30/09/2015)

It is a way to contemplate her and pray for her intercession. In connection with the founding of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Issoudun (France), Father Chevalier promised to honor Mary under a new name that he revealed in 1859 as Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Thus he brought together two names that were dear to his soul: the Sacred Heart (Christ) and Our Lady (Mary). We do not say “Our Lady of Issoudun” (in reference to the place) but “Our Lady of the Sacred Heart” (in reference to a person). The new name, full of hope, expresses the unique relationship between Jesus and Mary, whom God chose to give birth to his beloved son. This name justifies the great intuition of Vatican II: "Mary is the one who makes us enter into the mystery of Christ and the Church." From then on the city began to address their prayers to Mary as to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted. The new pilgrimage is inscribed in the recent religious and ecclesial sensibility introduced by Saint Ignatius of Loyola (1556), the founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). At that time, the Duchy of Luxembourg had long lost its political autonomy and was part of the Spanish Netherlands. In 1639, the first "Book of Miracles" mentions some answered prayers and healings that took place before Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted. As the pilgrimage gained popularity, a special week was set aside for the pilgrimage.
