Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! I am listening to your cries and prayers, and am interceding for you before my Son Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Return, little children, to prayer and open your hearts in this time of grace and set out on the way of conversion. Your life is passing and, without God, does not have meaning. This is why I am with you to lead you towards holiness of life, so that each of you may discover the joy of living. I love you all, little children, and am blessing you with my motherly blessing. Thank you for having responded to my call." (June 25, 2020)

Our Lady's Anniversary message is much like her messages throughout the years she has been coming to Medjugorje. She mentions many of the same things she has said to us, time and time again:

"I am listening to your cries and prayers, and am interceding for you before my Son Jesus..." She has told us she intercedes for us over 70 times. Of course, we always need to hear this! We need Our Lady's intercession on our behalf before the Lord. Her prayers are so powerful. Think of the Wedding at Cana, and how Jesus changed his mind and changed water into wine when she interceded! Mary's intercession is vital for our sanctification.

"...my Son Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life" She calls us to love, follow, learn from, and adore her Son Jesus, who is all we need! The Way to eternal life, the Truth that sets us free, and the Life which will never end. This is the only focus she wants us to have in our lives.

"Return, little children, to prayer..." The first Stone...

"Open your hearts in this time of grace..." One of the things she asks us to do almost every message! We cannot pray, cannot progress in our relationship with Jesus without open hearts.

"Set out on the way of conversion..." One of the five stones. Most necessary! To convert is to turn towards God. And that is the way we want to be going.

"Your life is passing and, without God, does not have meaning..." Our Lady constantly is calling us to look to our eternal home, and keep our gaze on heaven. This is the only reason to live!

"This is why I am with you to lead you towards holiness of life, so that each of you may discover the joy of living..." Holiness and the joy of living are also constant themes. Holiness give us joy in our lives. Holiness is the imprint of Jesus on our hearts.

"I love you all, little children, and am blessing you with my motherly blessing..." Our Lady tells us she loves us at least 80 times in her messages. Probably many more. She loves us and that is why she is with us, blessing us and working so hard to sanctify us.

Well, why did I enumerate all these favorite themes from Our Lady's messages, and make a big deal out of the fact she shared them on the 39th Anniversary? Because it speaks to me of how Our Lady sees the time that we are in. Many of us may have been wondering if Our Lady would give us a big apocalyptic message on the 39th Anniversary. Would she begin announcing the secrets? Would she give us a warning?

But she didn't. And I think I know why. If there was going to be a big event, an act of God, the best thing for us to be doing would be to live her messages, her five stones, her incessant pleas to us to convert, pray with open hearts, understand our true future and aim at it, desire holiness and discover the joy of life, cling to Jesus, our Way, Truth and Life, and allow her to love us and bless us every day! These things will make us ready for anything that comes our way. Why, because they prepare us for Heaven.

So, it gave me great peace that Our Lady stayed true to her mission among us. We have such a Mother!! She will be able to get us through anything!

Dear Family of Mary!

There was another message given to us from Our Lady on June 25, 2020:

The visionary Ivanka Ivankovic-Elez had her regular annual apparition on June 25th, 2020. At her last daily apparition on May 7, 1985, Our Lady confided to Ivanka the 10th secret and told her that she would have an apparition once a year on the anniversary of the apparitions. It was that way also this year.

The apparition, which lasted 5 minutes (18:40h - 18:45h), took place at Ivanka's family home. Only Ivanka's family was present at the apparition. After the apparition, Ivanka said: Our Lady gave the following message:

"Pray, pray, pray."

Our Lady blessed us all.

I want to share that Ivanka's message touched me deeply when I read it. It is clear that prayer is the most important thing we can do in these days of such trouble.

St. Faustina received a similar message from Our Lady March of 1936:

In the evening, when I was praying, the Mother of God told me, "Your lives must be like Mine: quiet and hidden, in unceasing union with God, pleading for humanity and preparing the world for the second coming of God." (Diary, 625)

Our Lady called St. Faustina to a quiet and hidden life in which she would unceasingly pray for humanity. "Pray, pray, pray." Through our prayer we will plead for humanity and prepare the world for the second coming of Christ! Let's respond.

The Nativity of St. John the Baptist

Dear Family of Mary!

We have arrived at the 39th Anniversary of Our Lady's coming in Medjugorje. What a wonder it is that Our Lady, the Queen of Peace, has been with us for these many years!! Today we will remember the first time that Our Lady was visible on Apparition Hill. She was waving at the visionaries and it was such a shock for them!! Tomorrow, June 25, the visionaries first talked with Our Lady and so this is the day that Our Lady remembers as the anniversary day of their relationship!

On June 21, 2020, Marija Pavlovic Lunetti was at the original apparition site with the guides and local people, and she shared a little bit from her heart about this anniversary and what it means for us. Here are her words:

 

I want all of you to hear that holiness is possible. We have examples that we have known and hugged. Those people who today are in heaven. We pray for their intercession. We have had the wonderful support, and example of St. John Paul II whose motto was "Totally Yours".

Also in a small way, but truthfully in a big way, Fr Skavko Barbaric, whom I pray to everyday. He was my first confessor and great support that each day I could become stronger through confession and advise. He said to me: "But Marija, you are chosen! Don't allow trials to suppress you! He always said to me, "But you are chosen!"  

This means we are all chosen! Our Lady chose all of us, chose us and said, "I chose Medugorje!" We can't say Medugorje is mine or I am Medugorje. Medugorje is Our Lady's! If it wasn't for Our Lady Medugorje would be nothing. We are no one and nothing.

Our Lady takes us higher and higher towards heaven! Our Lady loves us. Today she loves us, she has not abandoned us, she is with us. She repeats that she will not allow the devil to reign. So, pray! Be courageous! Be missionaries there in the place God has placed you! Encourage one another in holiness!

Just please do not forget this one thing, that God, through Our Lady, will triumph! May God bless you and may Our Lady give you all strength so that each day you will become stronger and stronger and become dear joyful missionaries of Our Lady. May God bless you and Our Lady look after you! Amen

We can take great solace in Marija's words. God the Father will triumph through Our Lady! He will win!! She will win!! Our enemy will be defeated!! We can be joyful missionaries of Our Lady of Medjugorje!! There is such hope and joy!

Let's pray this prayer of consecration to Our Lady (dictated to Jelena by Our Lady), in response to Marija's hopeful words:

Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, overflowing
with goodness, Show us your love for us.
May the flame of your heart, Oh Mary,
Descend upon all peoples.
We love you immensely.
Impress in our hearts a true love.
May our hearts yearn for you.
Oh Mary, sweet and humble of heart,
Remember us when we sin.
You know that all mankind are sinners.
Through your most sacred and maternal heart,
Cure us from every spiritual illness.
Make us capable of looking at the beauty of your maternal heart,
And that, thus, we may be converted
to the flame of your heart. Amen

39th Anniversary Novena - Day Nine

Dear Family of Mary!

In Fatima Our Lady promised that "in the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph". In Medjugorje she has told us "I invite you to self-renunciation for nine days so that, with your help, everything that I desire to realize through the secrets I began in Fatima, may be fulfilled" (August 25, 1991). The Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is our hope in these dark days. As we reflect on Our Lady's coming in Medjugorje, this Triumph gives us a hope for the future. We also are being invited to be part of that Triumph, through our response to her call:

"Dear children! Today in a special way I invite you all to prayer and renunciation. For now as never before satan wants to show the world his shameful face by which he wants to seduce as many people as possible onto the way of death and sin. Therefore, dear children, help my Immaculate Heart to triumph in the sinful world. I beseech all of you to offer prayers and sacrifices for my intentions so I can present them to God for what is most necessary. Forget your desires, dear children, and pray for what God desires, and not for what you desire. Thank you for having responded to my call."(September 25, 1991)

May we respond with all our hearts to Our Lady's plea! Let us pray for the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

The Annunciation

"Dear children! Also in this difficult time God's love sends me to you. My children, do not be afraid, I am with you. With complete trust give me your hearts that I may help you to recognize the signs of the time in which you live. I will help you to come to know the love of my Son. I will triumph through you. Thank you."(June 2, 2007)

The Visitation

"Dear children; Today I call you to a humble, my children, humble devotion. Your hearts need to be just. May your crosses be your means in the battle against the sins of the present time. May your weapon be patience and boundless love, a love that knows to wait and which will make you capable of recognizing God's signs, that your life, by humble love, may show the truth to all those who seek it in the darkness of lies. My children, my apostles, help me to open the paths to my Son. Once again I call you to pray for your shepherds. Alongside them, I will triumph. Thank you."(October 2, 2010)

"Dear children! I come to you as a Mother with gifts. I come with love and mercy. Dear children, mine is a big heart. In it, I desire all of your hearts, purified by fasting and prayer. I desire that, through love, our hearts may triumph together. I desire that through that triumph you may see the real Truth, the real Way and the real Life. I desire that you may see my Son. "Dear children, Today, with my motherly heart, I call you gathered around me to love your neighbor. My children, stop. Look in the eyes of your brother and see Jesus, my Son. If you see joy, rejoice with him. If there is pain in the eyes of your brother, with your tenderness and goodness, cast it away, because without love you are lost. Only love is effective; it works miracles. Love will give you unity in my Son and the victory of my heart. Therefore, my children, love."(September 2, 2008)

"Dear children, only a pure and an open heart will make it such that you may truly come to know my Son and that all those who do not know His love may come to know it through you. Only love will make you comprehend that it is stronger than death because true love conquered death and made it so that death not exist. My children, forgiveness is the most exalted form of love. You, as apostles of my love, must pray that you be strong in spirit and that you could comprehend and forgive. You, apostles of my love, by understanding and forgiveness, are giving an example of love and mercy. To be able to comprehend and forgive is a gift for which it is necessary to pray, and to nurture it. By forgiveness you are showing that you know how to love. Just look, my children, how the Heavenly Father loves you with a great love, with understanding, forgiveness and justice - how He gives me, the Mother of your hearts, to you. And here I am among you to bless you with a motherly blessing, to call you to prayer, to fasting - to tell you to believe, to hope, to forgive, to pray for your shepherds, and above all to love without limits. My children, follow me. My way is the way of peace and love, the way of my Son. It is the way that leads to the triumph of my heart. Thank you."  (June 02, 2019)

Let us pray that through our "yes" to Our Lady and our desire for love to win in the world, we will help Our Lady's Immaculate Heart to Triumph in our world now!!

Dear Mother Mary, we gather together to pray this novena, with deep gratitude for your presence in our midst. You have come to show us the way to heaven. The Heavenly Father has sent you to us to help us to repent and return to Him. You are coming to be the bond between us and the Heavenly Father, and to help us to love and serve His Son. You pray with us for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, because you have told us that when we have the Holy Spirit, we have everything. Therefore we ask that during this Novena you will help us to bond with you and through you with our Triune God who loves us so much. We ask that every grace can be poured out upon our shepherds, especially Pope Francis, during these nine days that they will be strengthened and purified for the days ahead, these most triumphant days of the Triumph of your Immaculate Heart! Thank you, dearest Mother!!!

Thank you for praying this novena with us!  I believe we have prepared our hearts for the graces that Our Lady will pour out upon us on June 25!  Let's remain in prayer and hope!  God bless you all!

39th Anniversary Novena Day 8

Dear Family of Mary!

"If you knew how much I love you, you would cry with joy. When anyone is before you, and asks you something, you will give it to him. I am before so many hearts, but they remain closed. Pray so that the world receives my love." (June 21, 1984 Jelena)

Our Lady has come to give us her love. Let me share the witness of Musician Dorijan Skrobonja, posted on the parish website (http://www.medjugorje.hr/en/news/the-experience-of-one-medjugorje-pilgrim,6888.html ) :

"The special encounter with Medjugorje took place four years ago, when I came on a pilgrimage with my family. We always came here to give thanks to God and to receive blessings. I never thought that anything special should happen to me, but that was exactly what happened. My wife and I were going to the church, to pray there. I knelt and I began to pray. Suddenly, I felt warmth, love and gentleness that were being poured on me. It was in that moment that Mother conveyed a message to me: "Don't you know how much I love you; why do you still question my love?"

"I began to cry because of fear and embarrassment; I could feel how small my faith was. All of my worries, all of my burdens were released, I felt completely free, as if I was in the world of complete and utter love, warmth and tenderness. I felt ashamed to cry and I could feel people staring at me. My wife could see that something extraordinary was taking place.

"It was that same night that I wrote the poem to Our Lady: 'Tonight I stood beneath Thee, O Mother, I stood beneath Thee, Pure Tenderness'," said Dorijan, who is a member of Aledory band together with his brother and they witness their faith with the music. "We are trying to live the messages of the Queen of Peace. Sometimes we are able to do that, sometimes we fail. I regret for not having been able to come to Medjugorje more often."This is a beautiful description of what it is like to encounter the love of Our Mother, Mary. She is waiting to pour out her love on all of us. We have only to ask!"

Let us pray to Our Lady, asking her to pour out her love on each of us.  Let's ask her forgiveness for not having desired her love in the past, and ask her to fill us now!

The Annunciation  

"Dear children! Today I wish to give you my own love. You do not know, dear children, how great my love is, and you do not know how to accept it. In various ways I wish to show it to you, but you, dear children, do not recognize it. You do not understand my words with your heart and neither are you able to comprehend my love. Dear children, accept me in your life and so you will be able to accept all I am saying to you and to which I am calling you. Thank you for having responded to my call."(May 22, 1986)

"Dear children! With joy in the heart I love you all and call you to draw closer to my Immaculate Heart so I can draw you still closer to my Son Jesus, and that He can give you His peace and love, which are nourishment for each one of you. "Dear children, I am coming to you as a mother and I desire that in me, as in a mother, you may find your abode, consolation and rest. Therefore, my children, apostles of my love, pray. Pray with humble devotion, obedience and complete trust in the Heavenly Father. Trust as I have trusted when it was said to me that I will bring the blessing of the promise. May out of your hearts, from your lips, always come forth 'May your will be done!' Therefore, trust and pray so that I can intercede for you before the Lord, for him to give you the Heavenly Blessing and fill you with the Holy Spirit. Then he will be able to help all those who do not know the Lord - you, apostles of my love, will help them to call him 'Father' with complete trust. Pray for your shepherds and place your trust in their blessed hands. Thank you."(March 02, 2014)

"Dear children! I am here, I am among you. I am looking at you, am smiling at you and I love you in the way that only a mother can. Through the Holy Spirit who comes through my purity, I see your hearts and I offer them to my Son. Already for a long time I have been asking of you to be my apostles, to pray for those who have not come to know God's love. I am asking for prayer said out of love, prayer which carries out works and sacrifices. Do not waste time thinking about whether you are worthy to be my apostles. The Heavenly Father will judge everyone; and you, love Him and listen to Him. I know that all of this confuses you, even my very stay among you, but accept it with joy and pray that you may comprehend that you are worthy to work for Heaven. My love is upon you. Pray that my love may win in all hearts, because that is the love which forgives, gives and never stops. Thank you."(February 02, 2015)

"Dear children! As a mother, I desire to be of help to you. With my motherly love, I desire to help you to open your heart and to put my Son in the first place in it. Through your love for my Son and through your prayer, I desire for God's light to illuminate you and God's mercy to fill you. In this way, I desire for the darkness, and the shadow of death which wants to encompass and mislead you, to be driven away. I desire for you to feel the joy of the blessing of God's promise. You, children of man, you are God's children - you are my children. Therefore, my children, set out on the ways on which my love leads you, teaches you humility and wisdom, and finds the way to the Heavenly Father. Pray with me for those who do not accept me and do not follow me - those who, because of hardness of their hearts, cannot feel the joy of humility, devotion, peace and love - the joy of my Son. Pray that your shepherds, with their blessed hands, may always give you the joy of God's blessing. Thank you."(March 18, 2014)

39th Anniversary Novena Day 7

Dear Family of Mary!

Our Lady has been coming to us for 39 years, injecting into our tired and discouraged world the gift of Divine Hope. God has sent her to be a light in the darkness of sin and faithlessness. Now we are asked to carry that hope into our own spheres of influence. Hope is like fresh air, it revives our spirits. May we receive the hope Our Lady brings and give it to others:

"Dear children! Today I call you to renew prayer and fasting with even greater enthusiasm until prayer becomes a joy for you. Little children, the one who prays is not afraid of the future and the one who fasts is not afraid of evil. Once again, I repeat to you: only through prayer and fasting also wars can be stopped - wars of your unbelief and fear for the future. I am with you and am teaching you little children: your peace and hope are in God. That is why draw closer to God and put Him in the first place in your life. Thank you for having responded to my call."(January 25, 2001)

Our Peace and hope are in God!!  This is how we can live and love in our times.  We have hope which gives us peace!  Jesus said to us: "I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)  We can be of good cheer!!  Jesus has overcome the world.  No matter how dark it appears, Jesus is stronger.  Jesus is truer and more firm.  We will not be overcome, in Him!  This is our Divine Hope!!  Hang on to Jesus and Mary!  Our Lady is teaching us that our peace and hope are in God!

Let us pray:

The Annunciation

"Dear children! Also today I call you to pray for peace. Pray with the heart, little children, and do not lose hope because God loves His creatures. He desires to save you, one by one, through my coming here. I call you to the way of holiness. Pray, and in prayer you are open to God's will; in this way, in everything you do, you realize God's plan in you and through you. Thank you for having responded to my call."(March 25, 2003)

The Visitation

"Dear children! Also today I call you, in this time of grace, to pray for little Jesus to be born in your heart. May He, who is peace itself, give peace to the entire world through you. Therefore, little children, pray without ceasing for this turbulent world without hope, so that you may become witnesses of peace for all. May hope begin to flow through your hearts as a river of grace. Thank you for having responded to my call."(November 25, 2008)

The Birth of Jesus

"Dear children! I look at you and I see in your heart death without hope, restlessness and hunger. There is no prayer or trust in God, that is why the Most High permits me to bring you hope and joy. Open yourselves. Open your hearts to God's mercy and He will give you everything you need and will fill your hearts with peace, because He is peace and your hope. Thank you for having responded to my call."(November 25, 2010)

The Presentation

"Dear children! Anew, in a motherly way, I am calling you not to be of a hard heart. Do not shut your eyes to the warnings which the Heavenly Father sends to you out of love. Do you love Him above all else? Do you repent for having often forgotten that the Heavenly Father, out of His great love, sent his Son to redeem us by the Cross? Do you repent for not yet having accepted the message? My children, do not resist the love of my Son. Do not resist hope and peace. Along with your prayer and fasting, by His cross, my Son will cast away the darkness that wants to surround you and come to rule over you. He will give you the strength for a new life. Living it according to my Son, you will be a blessing and a hope to all those sinners who wander in the darkness of sin. My children, keep vigil. I, as a mother, am keeping vigil with you. I am especially praying and watching over those whom my Son called to be light-bearers and carriers of hope for you - for your shepherds. Thank you." (March 02, 2013)

"Dear children, Remember - for I am telling you - that love will win. I know that many of you are losing hope because around you, you see suffering, pain, jealousy, envy... but, I am your mother. I am in the Kingdom but am also here with you. My Son is sending me anew to help you. Therefore, do not lose hope; instead, follow me - because the victory of my heart is in the name of God. My beloved Son is thinking of you as he has always thought of you. Believe him and live him. He is the life of the world. My children, to live my Son means to live the Gospel. This is not easy. This means love, forgiveness and sacrifice. This purifies and it opens the Kingdom. Sincere prayer, which is not only words but is a prayer which the heart speaks, will help you. Likewise fasting (will help you), because it is still more of love, forgiveness and sacrifice. Therefore, do not lose hope but follow me. I am imploring you anew to pray for your shepherds so that they may always look to my Son who was the first Shepherd of the world and whose family was the entire world."(December 02, 2014)

Dear Family of Mary!

In the midst of our novena, we have had the Feast of the Sacred Heart on Friday, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary today (Saturday).  Thanks be to God, Reuben has sent us a beautiful reflection for those two days that will help us to grasp the love that surrounds us from those two hearts!  Thank you Reuben!!

From Heart to Heart!!

January 2, 2008 "Dear children! With all the strength of my heart, I love you and give myself to you. As a mother fights for her children, I pray and fight for you. I ask you not to be afraid to open yourselves, so as to be able to love with the heart and give yourselves to others. The more that you do this with the heart, the more you will receive and the better you will understand my Son and His gift to you. Through the love of my Son and me, may you all be recognized. Thank you." Our Lady blessed all those present and religious articles brought for blessing. She asked for prayer and fasting for our shepherds

 

I am writing on the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Once again, I find myself thinking about the incarnate nature of our faith: how it's not a set of intellectual beliefs abstracted from the purely spiritual, but is grounded in the material. And so much so, that Our Lord in heaven made himself material among us by His incarnation in history, and by the Sacred Host of our Eucharist, which is really where the same reality outside of all time enters time. Christ is the unity of God and man, just as we are the unity of soul and body. The whole of God and heaven condescends to be with us in a way which we, as body-souls, can touch and taste and cling to! As Denis is fond of saying - heaven is a real place, with real food!!

 

Why am I thinking about this today? Because it's a feast day which celebrates exactly what I'm saying: how God himself, in all his almightiness and power, came to take on a beating human heart that loves us beyond all human measure. And one thing is for sure, that all of us will see this God-Man soon. No matter the length of days left to each individual, or to the world, our lives are as short as the blinking of an eye, when they are seen from God's eternal perspective. Soon, all of us will stand in front of the incarnate God and hear his beating heart. Judgement will be in relation to this heart. We will have to ask ourselves how much time and care we spent here on earth loving that Heart which loved us all the way to the cross.

 

And now that we are in the age of Divine Mercy, heralded by the Mother's real material presence in Medjugorje, we might dare to say that this Sacred Heart beats more passionately than ever for souls. We might say what St Paul says, that where sin abounds, grace abounds all the more. It is as though that very Heart of Christ's is opening itself up to more and more piercings of more and more lances, and all for love. And don't we feel that in Medjugorje? Isn't the presence of the Mother in Medjugorje such an immediate and tangible way to hear the beat of Christ's merciful heart?

 

I was looking at archive footage of all the many people in the crowds praying at the liturgy in Medjugorje. I was deeply struck by what I saw there. Every face, bar none, and in such an individual manner, was deeply at prayer. One could literally see and almost touch the love of person to person so visible on each of their faces.

 

Because that's surely what happens there at the Mother's home. We become children of she who has an immaculate heart, and so we can learn from her to open our own hearts to the Sacred Heart, which is that heart that so perpetually wants to save and sanctify us.

 

I noted how all the faces that I saw looked both joyful AND pained, because that's what love is like. When we become children of God, really knowing in our hearts what our eldest brother did for us, we are pained by the pain He experiences for all of us, and so we become brothers and sisters, who can feel exactly the same pain for each other, yet always with an equal measure of a joy which is entirely other-worldly, and really makes no sense at all to the unspiritual person. Isn't that amazing, how the spiritual essence of mercy is something that courses through our physical veins, changing even the way we feel, as though directing all our senses to gather in the sights and sounds that help us feel it? Mercy is incarnate in Christ, but sometimes, even I can actually, literally and materially feel it become incarnate in me too. Heart really does want to speak to heart, and Our Mother really does want to encourage the conversation.....

39th Anniversary Novena - Day 6

Dear Family of Mary!

Today we reflect on the great joy that Our Lady brings to us in Medjugorje. Pilgrims experience this joy during their stay in Medjugorje. It is a joy that cannot be manufactured. No rock concert or baseball game can give this kind of joy. It is a joy that wells up from within. It is triggered by even the smallest thing, like a beautiful sunset or a tiny flower. It is the joy of being with God. Our Lady said to us:

"Dear children! I invite you now to be open to God. See, children, how nature is opening herself and is giving life and fruits. In the same way I invite you to live with God and to surrender completely to him. Children, I am with you and I want to introduce you continuously to the joy of life. I desire that everyone may discover the joy and love which can be found only in God and which only God can give. God doesn't want anything from you only your surrender. Therefore, children, decide seriously for God because everything else passes away. Only God doesn't pass away. Pray to be able to discover the greatness and joy of life which God gives you. Thank you for having responded to my call."(May 25, 1989)

This joy "can be found only in God". And it is available to us as we respond to Our Lady's call, and live her messages. Today let's give thanks for this great joy which comes from God!

The Annunciation

"Dear children! I desire to share my joy with you. In my Immaculate Heart I feel that there are many of those who have drawn closer to me and are, in a special way, carrying the victory of my Immaculate Heart in their hearts by praying and converting. I desire to thank you and to inspire you to work even more for God and His kingdom with love and the power of the Holy Spirit. I am with you and I bless you with my motherly blessing. Thank you for having responded to my call."(August 25, 2000)

The Visitation

"Dear children! In this time of grace, I call all of you to renew prayer. Open yourselves to Holy Confession so that each of you may accept my call with the whole heart. I am with you and I protect you from the ruin of sin, but you must open yourselves to the way of conversion and holiness so that your heart may burn out of love for God. Give Him time and He will give Himself to you and thus, in the will of God you will discover the love and the joy of living. Thank you for having responded to my call."(November 25, 2012)

"Dear children! Give thanks with me to the Most High for my presence with you. My heart is joyful watching the love and joy in the living of my messages. Many of you have responded, but I wait for, and seek, all the hearts that have fallen asleep to awaken from the sleep of unbelief. Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! I want you to surrender your hearts to me so that I may take you on the way, which leads to the light and to eternal life. I do not want your hearts to wander in today's darkness. I will help you. I will be with you on this way of discovery of the love and the mercy of God. As a mother, I ask you to permit me to do this. Thank you for having responded to my call." (March 18, 1999 Mirjana)

Today is Day Five of our Novena for the 39th Anniversary of Our Lady's coming to Medjugorje. As we see in this message from March 18, 1999, Our Lady speaks of surrender. She longs that we surrender our hearts, our very lives into her hands. What does surrender mean?

In the Oxford English Dictionary one of the meanings of surrender is "To abandon oneself entirely to..." This means to let go control of my life, and place it entirely in another's hands. It is an act of utter trust. It is the kind of abandonment that a baby has in his mother's arms, a trust that is complete. There is no fear or worry involved, only a trusting repose. To abandon oneself entirely to another means to place all one's hope and trust in that person, knowing that it is the best possible thing to do. To abandon oneself entirely to Our Lady and thus to Jesus, is truly the best thing we can do for ourselves. This is total consecration!

Our Lady asks us surrender ourselves to her and through her to God. She says that she needs this surrender in order to work in us and through us. Today we will meditate on surrender, in the words of Our Lady!

Let's pray the Joyful Mysteries and let Our Lady teach us about surrender!

The Annunciation

"Dear children! Today also I call each one of you to decide to surrender again everything completely to me. Only that way will I be able to present each of you to God. Dear children, you know that I love you immeasurably and that I desire each of you for myself, but God has given to all a freedom which I lovingly respect and humbly submit to. I desire, dear children that you help so that everything God has planned in this parish shall be realized. If you do not pray, you shall not be able to recognize my love and the plans which God has for this parish and for each individual. Pray that Satan does not entice you with his pride and deceptive strength. I am with you and I want you to believe me, that I love you. Thank you for having responded to my call."(November 25, 1987)

The Visitation

"Dear children! Today also I am inviting you to a complete surrender to God. Dear children, you are not conscious of how God loves you with such a great love because He permits me to be with you so I can instruct you and help you to find the way of peace. This way, however, you cannot discover if you do not pray. Therefore, dear children, forsake everything and consecrate your time to God and God will bestow gifts upon you and bless you. Little children, don't forget that your life is fleeting like a spring flower which today is wondrously beautiful but tomorrow has vanished. Therefore, pray in such a way that your prayer, your surrender to God, may become like a road sign. That way, your witness will not only have value for yourselves but for all eternity. Thank you for having responded to my call."(March 25, 1988)

"Dear children! I am inviting you to a complete surrender to God. Pray, little children, that Satan may not carry you about like the branches in the wind. Be strong in God. I desire that through you the whole world may get to know the God of joy. By your life bear witness for God's joy. Do not be anxious nor worried. God himself will help you and show you the way. I desire that you love all men with my love. Only in that way can love reign over the world. Little children, you are mine. I love you and want you to surrender to me so that I can lead you to God. Never cease praying so that Satan cannot take advantage of you. Pray for the knowledge that you are mine. I bless you with blessings of joy. Thank you for having responded to my call."(May 25, 1988)

"Dear children! Today I am calling you to a complete surrender to God. Everything you do and everything you possess give over to God so that He can take control in your life as the King of all that you possess. That way, through me, God can lead you into the depths of the spiritual life. Little children, do not be afraid, because I am with you even if you think there is no way out and that Satan is in control. I am bringing peace to you I am your mother, the Queen of Peace. I am blessing you with the blessings of joy so that for you God may be everything in your life. Thank you for having responded to my call."(July 25, 1988)

"Dear children; my motherly call, which I direct to you today, is a call of truth and life. My Son, who is life, loves you and knows you in truth. To come to know and to love yourself, you must come to know my Son; to come to know and to love others, you must see my Son in them. Therefore, my children, pray, pray, that you may comprehend and surrender with a spirit that is free, be completely transformed and, in this way, may have the Kingdom of Heaven in your heart on earth. 39th Anniversary Novena Day 4

 

Dear Family of Mary!

 

"Dear Children! As a mother, I implore you, open your heart and offer it to me, and fear nothing. I will be with you and will teach you how to put Jesus in the first place. I will teach you to love Him and to belong to Him completely. Comprehend, dear children that without my Son there is no salvation. You should become aware that He is your beginning and your end. Only with this awareness can you be happy and merit eternal life. As your mother, I desire this for you. Thank you for having responded to my call."(March 18, 2002)

It seems that one of the prerequisites to Our Lady's school of holiness, one of the underlying predispositions we need to have is an "open heart". Our Lady has mentioned the need for an open heart at least 70 times in her messages. She not only suggests that we open our hearts, she implores us, begs us, and prays for us to have open hearts. Why is an open heart so important and what does it mean?

I think an open heart means that we let Our Lady into our inner self. We invite her into our heart where our deepest secrets, wounds, desires and hopes are found. It means that we invite her into our inner room where we pray, where we love, where we choose. We do not hide ourselves from her. And we do not put on a show for her, we are honest and straight-forward with her about everything. The same goes for Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit. We open our heart to them, that they may have free access to our inner self.

Why is it important? Because it is only with an open heart that we can make contact with God and Mother Mary, and receive all the graces we need to be saved. We must open our hearts, no one can do it for us. It is our fundamental choice to believe in God and love Him. When we open our heart we choose to convert, turn to the Lord and trust Him. We choose to follow Our Lady who is leading us to God.

Medjugorje is the place where hearts open! May we be those open hearts!!

"Dear children, By God's will I am here with you in this place. I desire that you open your hearts to me and to accept me as a mother. With my love I will teach you simplicity of life and richness of mercy and I will lead you to my Son. The way to Him can be difficult and painful but do not be afraid, I will be with you. My hands will hold you to the very end, to eternal happiness; therefore do not be afraid to open yourselves to me. Thank you. Pray for priests. My Son gave them to you as a gift."(May 2, 2008)

"Dear children; Today I am praying here with you that you may gather the strength to open your hearts and thus to become aware of the mighty love of the suffering God. Through His love, goodness and meekness, I am also with you. I invite you for this special time of preparation to be a time of prayer, penance and conversion. My children, you need God. You cannot go forward without my Son. When you comprehend and accept this, what was promised to you will be realized. Through the Holy Spirit the Kingdom of Heaven will be born in your hearts.
