Mary TV: January 31, 2022 Reflection - Be vigilant in prayer...

Be vigilant in prayer...

January 31, 2022
St. John Bosco

Dear Family of Mary!

Little children, do not forget that Satan is strong and that he wants to attract all the more souls to himself. That is why, you be vigilant in prayer and resolute in the good... (January 25, 2022)

Our Lady told us on January 25, 2022 to "be vigilant in prayer..." I decided to look up the meaning of "vigilant" to see if it would help me respond to her message. I found these simple meanings:

Vigilant- adjective:

"Carefully observant or attentive; on the lookout for possible danger..."

"Someone who is vigilant gives careful attention to a particular problem or situation and concentrates on noticing any danger or trouble that there might be."

"Watchful and alert..."

"To watch, keep awake, not to sleep, be watchful..."

It was helpful for me to know that vigilance is linked with danger. It explains why Our Lady told us that Satan is strong and wants to attract souls for himself just before she told us to be vigilant in prayer. She wants us to know that there is an enemy lurking, an enemy that wants to harm us and all those we love. There is a real reason to be vigilant in prayer. Our enemy lays traps all around us that can do us harm. Only constant, vigilant prayer can protect us from his wiles.

There is a Gospel reading which tell us of a situation in which vigilance was necessary and yet some of the apostles failed at that very vigilance:

"And they went to a place which was called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I pray." And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled. And he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch." And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. And he said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee; remove this cup from me; yet not what I will, but what thou wilt." And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." (Mark 14:32-38)

Another word for "vigilant" is "watch". Jesus told the Apostles, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch." But when He entered into His temptation in the garden, they fell asleep. They were no help to Him at all. When Jesus returned to them He said: "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Indeed it was a sad moment for Jesus to see how weak our humanity is, and how little we compassionate with others.

But the Lord never gave up on His Apostles, and He doesn't give up on us. And neither does Our Lady. Here is another of her messages in which she encourages us to pray and "watch in vigil". We need to keep trying!!

November 25, 1988 "Dear children! I call you to prayer, to have an encounter with God in prayer. God gives Himself to you, but He wants you to answer in your own freedom to his invitation. That is why little children during the day, find yourself a special time when you could pray in peace and humility, and have this meeting with God the creator. I am with you and I intercede for you in front of God, so watch in vigil, so that every encounter in prayer be the joy of your contact with God. Thank you for having responded to my call."

May we learn to be vigilant in prayer, to "pray and watch". Part of being vigilant is staying awake and alert, looking for the Lord to come to us in our prayer. We need this encounter every day. In doing so we will receive what we need from the Lord and we can help Jesus and Mary to protect and save the souls that have no idea of the danger they are in...

Mary TV: January 28, 2022 Reflection - Return to Personal Prayer

Personal Prayer

January 28, 2022
St. Thomas Aquinas

Dear Family of Mary!

Our Lady called us back to prayer in her January 25, 2022 Message:

“Dear children! Today I am calling you to return to personal prayer. Little children, do not forget that Satan is strong and that he wants to attract all the more souls to himself. That is why, you be vigilant in prayer and resolute in the good. I am with you and am blessing all of you with my motherly blessing. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (January 25, 2022)

I, for one, have been trying to get a good idea of what Our Lady means by "personal prayer". And I found several messages in which she has taught us about personal prayer. These messages may be a help for all of us in responding to this most recent message on prayer:

July 25, 1997 "Dear children! Today I invite you to respond to my call to prayer. I desire, dear children, that during this time you find a corner for personal prayer. I desire to lead you towards prayer with the heart. Only in this way will you comprehend that your life is empty without prayer. You will discover the meaning of your life when you discover God in prayer. That is why, little children, open the door of your heart and you will comprehend that prayer is joy without which you cannot live. Thank you for having responded to my call."

July 25, 2001 "Dear children! In this time of grace, I call you to come even closer to God through your personal prayer. Make good use of the time of rest and give your soul and your eyes rest in God. Find peace in nature and you will discover God the Creator Whom you will be able to give thanks to for all creatures; then you will find joy in your heart. Thank you for having responded to my call."

January 25, 2010 "Dear children! May this time be a time of personal prayer for you, so that the seed of faith may grow in your hearts; and may it grow into a joyful witness to others. I am with you and I desire to inspire you all: grow and rejoice in the Lord who has created you. Thank you for having responded to my call."

August 25, 2010 "Dear children! With great joy, also today, I desire to call you anew: pray, pray, pray. May this time be a time of personal prayer for you. During the day, find a place where you will pray joyfully in a recollected way. I love you and bless you all. Thank you for having responded to my call."

Holy Thursday, April 19, 1984 (To Jelena)
"I'm going to reveal a spiritual secret to you: if you want to be stronger than evil, make yourself a plan of personal prayer. Take a certain time in the morning, read a text from Holy Scripture, anchor the Divine word in your heart, and strive to live it during the day, particularly during the moment of trials. In this way, you will be stronger than evil."

Well, these messages are like clean, fresh air for me! I think I do need to renew personal prayer. The key word for me is to "time". I need to take more time just for my own prayer. My time with the Lord. A time when nothing else matters! A time to really rest with God!

Thank you, dear Mother, for your messages. They are lifelines for us all!

Mary TV: January 27, 2022 Reflection - Stone #5 - The Eucharist

Stone #5 - The Eucharist

January 27, 2022

Dear Family of Mary!

It is very evident that in Medjugorje, the Eucharistic Presence of Jesus is the center of life. Through her guidance and direction, the visionaries and the Parish have together constructed a prayer life that revolves around the Eucharist! For such a small village, and such a small parish as St. James, there are an incredible number of Holy Masses offered each day. Holy Mass is central to everyone's day. And Adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is available all afternoon in the Adoration Chapel! Jesus is adored, loved, prayed to, and received almost constantly in Medjugorje!

Our Lady wants it that way! Here are two full messages, and several quotes from other messages in which Our Lady calls us to a living relationship with her Eucharistic Son. She wants us to be near Him in the Eucharist as much as possible, because miracles happen through His Presence. Miracles happen!

Our Lady has said:

March 15, 1984 "Tonight also, dear children, I am grateful to you in a special way for being here. Unceasingly adore the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. I am always present when the faithful are adoring. Special graces are then being received."

March 25, 2008 "Dear children! I call you to work on your personal conversion. You are still far from meeting with God in your heart. Therefore, spend all the more time in prayer and Adoration of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, for Him to change you and to put into your hearts a living faith and a desire for eternal life. Everything is passing, little children, only God is not passing. I am with you and I encourage you with love. Thank you for having responded to my call."

I am calling you for the Eucharist to be the life of your soul. August 2, 2014
I am calling you, my apostles, to live the Eucharist with joy, because in the Eucharist my Son gives Himself to you anew and with His example shows the love and sacrifice towards the neighbor. August 2, 2014
The Church needs apostles who by living the Eucharist with the heart do great works; it needs you, my apostles of love. December 2, 2015
Do not forget that in the Eucharist, which is the heart of faith, my Son is always with you. May 2, 2016

My children, do not forget that the Eucharist is the heart of faith. This is my Son who feeds you with His Body and strengthens you with His Blood. This is a miracle of love: my Son who always comes anew, alive, to bring life back to souls.May 2, 2018
Dear children, great is the love of my Son. If you were to come to know the greatness of His love, you would never cease to adore and thank Him. He is always alive with you in the Eucharist, because the Eucharist is His Heart. August 2, 2019

If receiving my Son in the Eucharist is the center of your life then do not be afraid, you can do everything. June 2, 2012

Our Lady knows that we will not understand Jesus' presence in the Eucharist by thinking about it. It is a mystery we cannot grasp through our intellect. We can only approach the Lord in His Eucharistic Presence with faith, and just be with Him. To stay, to wait, to gaze, to wonder, to praise, to thank, to pour out your soul, and to finally grow silent, is the path to experiencing Jesus in the Eucharist. And if we persevere in that process, we will be changed, which is the greatest sign that Jesus is present! He alone works miracles.

Mary TV: January 25, 2022 Reflection - Stone #4 - Confession

Confession

January 25, 2022
The Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle

Dear Family of Mary!

Confession is one of the most important gifts given in Medjugorje. Our Lady invites us to her village, and she guides us through many experiences of prayer. But one of the most important moments for each individual is the Sacrament of Confession, received around the Church before Evening Mass. Confession in Medjugorje is like no other confession. It is only because Our Lady is there, giving us such peace and security that we can face the most difficult sins of our past. We can offer them to Jesus through the priest, and truly be freed and healed. It is incredible!

I want to share an entry from the book, "Give Me Your Wounded Heart" by Fr. Slavko Barbaric. This book is about Confession. And this small entry may help us all to turn again to Confession with renewed faith and desire. Confession is a miracle:

You are called to Confession

On March 25, 1985, the Feast of the Annunciation, Our Lady gave this message through Marija Pavlovic:

Dear Children! Today I wish to call you all to confession, even if you have confessed a few days ago. I wish that you all experience my feast day within yourselves. But you cannot experience it unless you abandon yourselves completely to God. Therefore, I am inviting you all to reconciliation with God!

This is one of the most striking messages in which Our Lady invites us to confession. Viewed in relation to the Feast of the Annunciation, one more thing about confession is clear.

Mary is the New Eve. She said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done unto me according to Thy word" (Luke 1:38).

With these words of Mary, the handmaid of the Lord, a new world began.

The first woman, Eve, did not fulfill God's plan in her life. She sinned and through sin man rejected God and His plans. Through sin, man preferred his own will, and rejected God's will. Mary brought healing to a world which was hurt by the disobedience of our first parents. It was possible because Christ, the new Adam, accepted the will of the Father and entered the world to save the world. He entered the world through Mary, the one who was the humble and obedient handmaid of the Lord.

Therefore, the deepest meaning of the Feast of the Annunciation stems not just from the fact that Christ, the Word Divine, became man for us by His Incarnation in the womb of the Virgin Mary, but even more, that through Mary's surrender to God's will a new history of salvation began.

From this great mystery and the reality of the Incarnation, which was dependent upon Mary's acceptance of the will of God, we discover the deep meaning of confession. Certainly it is no accident that Mary called us all to confession on her feast. This helps us to understand the question: What is confession?

Confession is the total and conscious acceptance of God's will and the renunciation of the world which enslaves and destroys us. It is the acceptance of God's salvation and light, peace, and love, and the renunciation of the world of darkness, hatred, and unrest.

Mary said, "You cannot experience a true celebration of this feast if you do not confess your sins." It means that you cannot begin a new life if you are not prepared to tell God, "Here I am, Lord, ready to do your will." It is God's will for us to seek forgiveness for all those areas where we oppose Him and prefer our will to His, and where we are really closer to the old Eve than we are to Mary, the new eve. Therefore, confession is the moment when we return to a life without sin and begin to build a new world. It is the moment when we allow God to enter our lives again, when we put Him first in our lives once more. It is also the moment when the old man in us is renewed by the power of Christ's Incarnation.

The more sincere we are in our confessions, and the more regularly we receive the sacrament, the closer we will come to celebrating the true spirit of the Annunciation which Mary, the Mother of all the living and the new Eve, refers to in her message. That celebration is a celebration of life, peace, joy, love, and true community between God and man, and men among themselves.

The closer we come to living what Mary is really leading us to in this message, the more we will renounce the destructive power of sin. We will become stronger when temptations arise, and we will have less fear and anxiety.

In this way we will enter into the glory of being children of God. This is why it is no accident that many pilgrims and priests in Medjugorje confirm that through the sacrament of Confession they have discovered the beauty and significance of the call to conversion, of returning to friendship between God and man.

Now the meaning of the ministry of reconciliation which has been given to priests becomes clearer in the eyes of both priests and believers. Surely, there is no ministry from one person to another more beautiful than the ministry of reconciliation. (Father Slavko Barbaric. Give Me Your Wounded Heart. Medjugorje: Informativni Centar Mir, 1996. P. 62-64)

Truly, Confession is the Sacrament of transformation! Our Lady provides so many graces for this transformation in Medjugorje! And by extension, all around the world!!

Mary TV: January 24, 2022 Reflection – Stone #3 – The Bible

The Holy Bible
January 24, 2022

Dear Family of Mary!
Our Lady has called us to read the Bible and place it in a prominent place in our homes, consistently. She makes it clear that we will not understand her Son if we don't let the Scriptures speak to us every day. We must start thinking as God thinks and not as man thinks. And that kind of thinking comes to us through the Bible. No other words, either from saints or mystics, can replace the prominence of the Bible in our relationship with God.
Here are five messages that may help us to plant firmly in our hearts the importance of Scripture. It is not too late. Even today we can begin to contemplate the Word of God. It will change us! We will begin to see things in a new way!

August 25, 1993 "Dear children! I want you to understand that I am your Mother, that I want to help you and call you to prayer. Only by prayer can you understand and accept my messages and practice them in your life. Read Sacred Scripture, live it, and pray to understand the signs of the times. This is a special time, therefore, I am with you to draw you close to my heart and the heart of my Son, Jesus. Dear little children, I want you to be children of the light and not of the darkness. Therefore, live what I am telling you. Thank you for having responded to my call."

August 25, 1996 "Dear children! Listen, because I wish to speak to you and to invite you to have more faith and trust in God, who loves you immeasurably. Little children, you do not know how to live in the grace of God, that is why I call you all anew, to carry the word of God in your heart and in thoughts. Little children, place the Sacred Scripture in a visible place in your family, and read and live it. Teach your children, because if you are not an example to them, children depart into godlessness. Reflect and pray and then God will be born in your heart and your heart will be joyous. Thank you for having for responded to my call."

January 25, 1999 "Dear children! I again invite you to prayer. You have no excuse to work more because nature still lies in deep sleep. Open yourselves in prayer. Renew prayer in your families. Put Holy Scripture in a visible place in your families, read it, reflect on it and learn how God loves His people. His love shows itself also in present times because He sends me to call you upon the path of salvation. Thank you for having responded to my call."

September 25, 1999 "Dear children! Today again I call you to become carriers of my peace. In a special way, now when it is being said that God is far away, He has truly never been nearer to you. I call you to renew prayer in your families by reading the Sacred Scripture and to experience joy in meeting with God who infinitely loves His creatures. Thank you for having responded to my call."

April 25, 2005 "Dear children! Also today, I call you to renew prayer in your families. By prayer and the reading of Sacred Scripture, may the Holy Spirit, who will renew you, enter into your families. In this way, you will become teachers of the faith in your family. By prayer and your love, the world will set out on a better way and love will begin to rule in the world. Thank you for having responded to my call."

Mary TV: January 21, 2022 Reflection - Stone #2 - Fasting

Fasting

January 21, 2022

Dear Family of Mary!

Our Lady has called us to fasting from the very beginning of her apparitions in Medjugorje. She taught the young visionaries to fast. They would often fast for her intentions even several days at a time! Our Lady is not afraid of fasting!

She once said to us:

October 25, 2000 "Dear children! Today I desire to open my motherly heart to you and to call you all to pray for my intentions. I desire to renew prayer with you and to call you to fast which I desire to offer to my Son Jesus for the coming of a new time - a time of spring. In this Jubilee year many hearts have opened to me and the Church is being renewed in the Spirit. I rejoice with you and I thank God for this gift; and you, little children, I call to pray, pray, pray - until prayer becomes a joy for you... Thank you for having responded to my call."

Our Lady called us all to fast, consistently. Fr. Slavko understood this call and tried very much to lead us in fasting. He gave 5 day fasting retreats in Medjugorje for pilgrims, which were famous for their austerity and grace! I want to share with you all something Fr. Slavko Barbaric wrote about fasting in the book, "Pray with the Heart", published in 2000. It is actually a prayer for us to pray with him for the grace to fast. Fr. Slavko knew better than most what Our Lady needed in our fasting. Here is the prayer that he wrote:

Our Lady's call:

"I would like the world to pray with me these days. As much as possible, to fast strictly on Wednesday's and Friday's, to pray every day at least the Rosary; the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries..." (August 14, 1984)

O Lord God, Creator of all creation and my Creator, today we give You thanks for having arranged the world so wonderfully. Thank you for having given fertility to mother earth so that she may bear all kinds of fruit. Thank you for the food prepared from the fruits of the earth. Father, I rejoice in Your creatures. I rejoice in the fruits today, and I thank you. Thank you for our daily food and drink.

Father, thank you for having made my body in such a way as to be able to use the fruits of the earth and so develop and serve You. Thank you, Father, for all those who, through their work, produce new life possibilities. Thank you for those who have much and give away to others. Thank you for all who are hungry for heavenly bread while eating this earthly bread.

Father, thank you also for those who have nothing to eat today, for I am convinced that You will send them help through good people. Father, today I decide to fast. In doing so i do not despise Your creatures. I do not renounce them, I only want to rediscover their value. I decide for fasting because Your prophets used to fast, because Jesus Christ fasted and so did His apostles and disciples. I especially decide for fasting because Your servant, Mother Mary fasted, too. She calls me to fasting:

"Dear children! Today I invite you to start fasting with the heart. There are a lot of people who fast because others do so. Fasting is a habit nobody wants to give up. I ask the parish to fast out of gratitude that God allowed me to stay in this parish so long. Dear children, fast and pray with the heart. Thank you for having responded to my call." (September 20, 1984)

Father, I present this day of fasting to You. Through fasting I want to listen to and live Your word more. I want, during this day, to learn to be turned more toward You, in spite of all the things that surround me. With this fast that I take upon myself freely, I pray to You for all who are hungry and who because of their hunger, have become aggressive.

I present You this fast for PEACE in the world. Wars come because we are attached to material things and are ready to kill each other because of them.

Father, I present to You this fast for all those who are totally tied down to material things, so that they are unable to see any other values. I ask You for all those who are in conflict because they have become blind in what they possess. Father, open our eyes through fasting to what You give us, to what we have. I am also sorry for the blindness which has taken hold of my senses so that I do not give thanks for the goods I have. I repent every misuse of material good because I used to judge their value wrongly.

Make me able, through this fast today, to see You and the people around me better. Enable me to hear Your Word better. Through today's fasting, let love for You and for my neighbor grow in me. Father, I decide to live on bread and water today that I may better understand the value of heavenly bread, and the presence of Your Son in the Eucharist. Let my faith and trust grow through fasting. Father, I decide to fasting and accept it because I know that in this way my longing for You will grow in me. Eagerly and with gratitude do I think of Your Son's words; "How blessed are the poor in spirit: the reign of God is theirs."

Father, make me poor before You. Grant me grace that through fasting I may understand how much I need You. Grant that through fasting my desire for You may grow, that my heart may long for You as the deer longs for the running waters and the desert for the clouds of rain. Father, I pray to You, grant that through this fast my understanding of the hungry and the thirsty, of those who do not have enough of material goods, may especially grow. Help me see what I do not need but possess, that I may give it up for the benefit of my brothers and sisters.

O Father, I especially pray to You. Grant me the grace to become aware that I am but a pilgrim on this earth, that, when passing away to the other world, I shall not take anything with me but love and good deeds. Let the awareness grow within me that, even when I possess something, I cannot call it my own for I have only received it from You to manage it. Father, grant me grace that through fasting I may become humbler and more willing to do Your will.

Cleanse me of my selfishness and haughtiness. Through this fast cleanse me of all bad habits and calm down my passions, and let virtue increase in me. Let the depth of my soul open to Your grace through this fast so that it may totally affect and cleanse me. Help me to be always like Your Son in trials and temptations; to resist every temptation, so as to be able to serve You and seek Your word more and more, day after day.

Mary, you were free in your heart and bound to nothing except the Father's will. Obtain by prayer the grace of a joyful fast for me today, in which my heart will be able to sing with you a thanksgiving song. Obtain by prayer the grace for me that my decision to fast may be firm and lasting. And I offer, for all people, the difficulties and the hunger I am going to feel today. Mary, pray for me. Let every evil and temptation of Satan stay away from me today through your intercession and through the power of your protection. Teach me, Mary, to fast and to pray that day after day I may become more and more like you and your Son, Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit. Amen.
