Have You Ever Been a Hero?

  • Well, maybe not a hero but just doing my job!
  • I don't know about it being a hero, but one instance comes to mind. Back about 20 years ago I was working in a hospital in Brooklyn as a Lieutenant in Security. The building was being totally remodeled with extra floors added. One night, on the 12 to 7am shift, something happened to cause the standby water pumps in the basement to turn on. These pumps and generators are supposed to kick in when there is a black-out or power loss and are run by diesel engines. I'm familiar with these types of engines because I was a Machinist Mate in the Navy and my primary job was running and up-keeping diesel pumps. Anyway, we noticed water running down the walls and stair-wells above the old hospital building, which was full of patients. I went up to the construction area and saw that water was shooting out of the toilet flush valves , sink faucets, and sprinkler system, which had burst from the high pressure of the water that the pumps were sending up to the top floors of the new building. There was no way to shut the water off up there, (it was like a river) so I ran down the 7 or 8 flights of stairs (the elevators were automatically shut down because of the burst sprinkler system) and was able to shut down all the pumps by their emergency shut-off valves. It was a mess, but I think I saved the hospital thousands of dollars in repairs and also we didn't have to evacuate any patients. I felt proud that I was able to "save the day"! I made out a Incident Report which I handed in to my superior. By the way, I never did get a "Thank You" from the management.

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #621

Some of the guards came into the city and told the chief priests all things that had been done. And they being assembled together with the ancients, taking counsel, gave a great sum of money to the soldiers, Saying: "Say you, His disciples came by night and stole him away when we were asleep. And if the governor shall hear of this, we will persuade him and secure you." So they taking the money, did as they were taught: and this word was spread abroad among the Jews even unto this day. (Matt. 28:11-15)

THE OBDURACY OF HIS ENEMIES, was the reason why our Blessed Lord did not show Himself to them after His Resurrection. They would not believe in Him before, and they would not have believed in Him even had He appeared to them: their guilt would only have been increased.

Marija Arrives in Alabama
Our Lady Says Apparition at 6:40 PM Today, Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Visionary Marija Lunetti arrived last night, at 9:40 p.m., June 29, 2009, fresh from celebrating Our Lady’s 28th anniversary in Medjugorje, and after a brief greeting from the community, entered the Bedroom to join them in the prayer of the Rosary, as Marija had not yet had her apparition of Our Lady that day. The Caritas Community gladly interrupted their work in preparing for the July 1-5 apparitions, in order to see Marija and most especially greet Our Lady. It has been a very intense three months of work in preparation of this event, and much work still to do, so in a special way the community asked Our Lady’s assistance in helping them accomplish everything necessary in the time remaining before July 1st is here. Our Lady appeared in the middle of the Rosary and appeared for several minutes. She came, prayed over everyone and blessed them. When Our Lady comes each time to Caritas, She says what time and place the apparition will be for the following day. Our Lady said She would appear on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in the Bedroom, in the evening, at 6:40 p.m. To send your petitions, click here. All pilgrims are invited to go to the Field to pray the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. that Our Lady may bless them in the Field during the apparition.

Marija arrives at Caritas
Marija, who is standing in the white sweater, arrives surrounded by Caritas Community members in the founder’s home. They’re faces are lit up with joy, not only that Marija has arrived, but because of the new “community” member she is being introduced to --a young squirrel that has been bottle-fed for months after being separated from its mother in its first weeks. “Chipper” did not stay long on the arm of Joshua, before dashing around the walls of the room and furniture, showing off for those quick enough to catch him with their eyes. For more than 20 years, the prayer said each day in the Field at the time of Our Lady’s apparition in Medjugorje, consecrates all the plants, animals and even the mountains themselves to Our Lady, the Queen of Peace. From that blessing we have witnessed in remarkable ways the peace that descends upon even wild animals we encounter, and have been touched to see the face of God in so many of these lowly creatures.
These long months of preparation have brought us finally to these five days of prayer with Our Lady. Many believe that these apparitions of Our Lady are even more important than last year simply because of the deterioration of our nation in just one year’s time. The Community of Caritas encourages even now, those who have not thought about coming, to spontaneously make the decision to be present for Our Lady’s apparitions. It pleases Our Lady to see great crowds come to be in Her presence. She often said on the mountains in Medjugorje that She is happy to see everyone in such large numbers.
December 8, 1983
“Thank you my children for coming in such large numbers…”
August 5, 1991
“…I am very happy tonight to see you in such large numbers…”
March 1, 1984
“…Thank you for having responded tonight. I wish you always to be with my Son and me in every greater numbers…”

Many people decided at the last minute to attend last year’s apparitions, even if only for one day, and were greatly blessed by their decision. Pray to Our Lady to see if She is calling you to come. She will make the way clear.

For all those who are unable to be present, the July 1-5, 2009
Program Booklet is available for you to download so that you can be united with all those who are gathering here for the Five Days of Prayer, July 1-5, in your prayers and sacrifices. There will be daily Radio Wave programs, including a special program in which Marija Lunetti will come in the studio to share with all of you her thoughts on Our Lady’s messages especially in light of these days of prayer for the United States. Check back for the time schedule of these programs.

We ask that you all seriously live these days of prayer in your own homes and churches, even in other countries, as we will be praying that the consecration of the United States in Our Lady’s presence will inspire countries around the world to follow in this example of gathering “we the people” of their own nations to consecrate their beloved homelands directly to the Heart of Our Lady who will lead them to the Heart of Her Son, Jesus.

Marija arrives at Caritas
Marija in ecstasy in the Bedroom a little after 10:00 p.m. on June 29, 2009 surrounded by the Caritas Community. The yellow roses on the Bed had been in Marija’s Chapel of the Two Hearts for Our Lady’s 28th anniversary of the apparitions on June 25, 2009. They were carried to Alabama through five airports, miraculously were given the green light through customs, and were still beautiful and intact as they were laid on the Bed to greet Our Lady in the apparition last night. There was a moment of reflection in the Bedroom pondering how something so fragile as a flower can today travel half way across the world in a single day, still alive, fresh and beautiful. But these flowers are beautiful because they have attached to them the fragrance of Our Lady’s presence, first in Medjugorje and now in Alabama.

Don’t forget to take advantage and
send in your petitions immediately. Tell others about this beautiful ability to have your written words in Our Lady’s presence. Each day we will print out petitions and place them in the presence of Our Lady. She desires you to share your heart with Her, that you give Her all your problems, sufferings and difficulties. Do not hesitate to take this step in having Our Lady help you in healing difficult situations and difficult hearts.
In the Love of Our Lady,
A Friend of Medjugorje

The Fire of My Love "My Heart Bleeds" by Rita Ring, March 6, 1994

My Heart Bleeds

God's Blue Book II Cover

March 6, 1994 Sunday Night

Jesus: My little ones, I never give you more than you can handle. Come to Me and I give you rest. I am Jesus, the Son of God, and I love you. This is not a myth. If the whole world does not believe it doesn't matter. I, Jesus Christ,

Sacred Heart of Jesus

talk to you. I am present right now and I love you.

These trials will strengthen you. You will come forth steadfast in My love. Turn to Me. This is where our union is strengthened. I want you entirely dependent on Me for everything. When you are hurting, come to Me and cry at My feet. I love you more than any person ever could. I am God, child. I love with the most ardent love and I care when you hurt. I want to comfort you. I am Whom you seek. Your heart aches for union with Me and Me alone.

R. It is not this. It is not that. It is You, Lord. The more I grow in loving You, the more I experience such aching in my heart for love of You. I want to behold You so!

The aching soul craves this union with God. The more I know how You love me, how You died so brutally for me and how You want to be close to me, the more I want to be closer to You and I cannot experience You this way on earth. I crave You, my Lord and God. I want to be so close to You! I ache so in my heart. I only know a little how You suffered for love of us. I only know a little how the souls in purgatory ache for love of You.

Oh, my precious Jesus, I love You so. I long to be close to You and know You more. It is this longing and aching I have for You. Such unrest in my soul! And it will not be satisfied here in my earthly form. Oh, sweet Jesus, when they show pictures of saints and those who love You, do they ever show their hearts aching to want to behold you more? They look so peaceful with their halos and saintliness!

This relationship with You, this way to You, is the Way of the Cross. I see pictures of saints with crucifixes. Why did they carry these? Was it that when they were given their crosses they looked at how You suffered and it made their crosses easier to carry? You suffered so, my Lord, for love of me. Oh, my Lord, I truly love You.

The Crucifix, a cross with corpus, a symbol us...

Jesus: I am Jesus, Son of God. I truly suffered. Your heart is experiencing aching. I allow you to ache and feel some of My emotions. I am a person. When people love one another, they share each other's pain. Your heart aches as I, too, ache for love of My beloved ones. Preach about My aching heart.

Every soul has periods of unrest because the soul was made to love the Lord. Sunday is a day I let you suffer My aching heart. I want you to tell others how I ache for love of them. I allow you to suffer on Saturday and Sunday for My aching heart.

My heart is on fire for love of each soul and many do not ever come to Me. Some come to Me in Communion and the thought of Me never crosses their minds. How this wounds My aching heart! Such indifference! It pierces My heart and makes it bleed. You will never comprehend the love of God. You will never know how My heart aches. I let you feel this aching heart, to suffer with Me and tell others of My intense love for them. My indifferent loved ones are piercing My heart. I suffered for love of you.

Please preach My love to them. Tell them of My aching, waiting, longing, bleeding heart. You do not know even a tiny amount of the torrent of My love for You.

I am Jesus, Son of the Living God.

Bono says U2 Song inspired by Mary
imageU2  Song "Magnificent"  from new album "No line on the Horizon"  inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary

In a recent Rolling Stone interview Brian Hiatt quotes Bono as saying "Magnificent was inspired by the Magnificat, a passage from the Gospel of Luke in the voice of the Virgin Mary that was previously set to music by Bach. "There's this theme running through the album of surrender and devotion and all the things I find really difficult," Bono says. "All music for me is worship of one kind or another."

Dick Staub of www.DickStaub.com writes "Magnificent" recalls the prayer of the Virgin Mary in the Gospel of Luke: "Magnificent, Magnificent, I was born, I was born to be with you in this space and time. I was born, I was born to sing for you. I didn't have a choice but to lift you up and sing whatever song you wanted me to. I give you back my voice from the womb my first cry, it was a joyful noise ... Only love, only love can leave such a mark, but only love, only love can heal such a scar."

The Magnificat [Latin: magnifies], also called the Canticle of Mary, is recorded in the Gospel of Luke (1:46-55). It is the Virgin Mary's joyous prayer in response to her cousin Elizabeth's greeting (Luke 1: 41-45). This great hymn forms part of the Church's prayer in the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours). When it is recited as part of the Divine Office, it is followed by the Gloria Patri ("Glory be"). The traditional sung Magnificat is Latin plainchant. One of the hymn's most glorious musical renditions is the version of the Magnificat by J.S. Bach.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes the Magnificat as "the song both of the Mother of God and of the Church" and explains this prayer's significance:

Mary's prayer is revealed to us at the dawning of the fullness of time. Before the Incarnation of the Son of God, and before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, her prayer cooperates in a unique way with the Father's plan of loving kindness: at the Annunciation, for Christ's conception; at Pentecost, for the formation of the Church, His Body. In the faith of His humble handmaid, the Gift of God found the acceptance He had awaited from the beginning of time. She whom the Almighty made "full of grace" responds by offering her whole being: "Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be [done] to me according to Thy word". "Fiat": this is Christian prayer: to be wholly Gods' because He is wholly ours.

The Prayer
My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Medjugorje: Mirjana speaks of Pope John Paul's Shoes

From http://ingodscompany2.blogspot.com/

Question and Answer with Mirjana

*Question: We went on a pilgrimage and we were blessed to stay at your house once and we noticed the Pope’s shoes are in a little display at your house. Can you tell us how Pope John Paul II’s shoes arrived there?
*Answer: I am the only one of 6 visionaries who was lucky enough, had the honor, to encounter Pope John Paul II. You can imagine how the other 5 are jealous of me. [laughter] Jakov always says, “Oh, yea, you have been with Pope.”
I was in the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, with an Italian priest. Holy Father was walking by and he was blessing us. When he approached me, he blessed me and he just continued to walk. However, this Italian priest loudly said to him, “Holy Father, this is Mirjana from Medjugorje.” He came back and blessed me again and he set out. And I said to the priest, “ He just thinks I need a double blessing.” But then after, he received a note, an invitation to Castle Gandolfo, close to Rome, in order to encounter the Pope. I couldn’t sleep all night because I really loved him and I respected him and I could really feel his love for Our Lady.
So the next day when he and I met alone, I was just crying. I couldn’t say a word out of excitement. He noticed that I was excited. I think he tried to talk to me in Polish because he thought in the Slavic languages there are things in common. I didn’t understand a word! But I finally had enough strength and courage, I asked him, “What are you trying to tell me?” Then we talked. Among other things he said to me, “I know everything about Medjugorje. I’ve been following Medjugorje. Ask pilgrims to pray for my intentions, to keep, to take good care of Medjugorje, because Medjugorje is hope for the entire world. And if I were not Pope, I would have been in Medjugorje a long time ago.”
So recently on the Mount of Apparitions, I saw a pair of shoes of the Pope in front of me, and after the apparition, this gentleman who brought these shoes ( he didn’t introduce himself), he said, “It was the Pope’s desire for a long time to come to Medjugorje. I said, ‘If you do not go, I will take your shoes.’ And that is how I brought his shoes, so they may be present during the apparition.”
Now I have a pair of his shoes in my home. But what is funniest in this, a man who made the shoes for the Pope, an Italian from Rome, he heard that I have a pair of the Pope’s shoes, and imagine, he wouldn’t believe it. He made two pairs of Pope’s shoes for me. My number’s 38 [in the US, size 7].

[MaryVitamin] everything with love

Mary Vitamin for June 30th

Topic: Everything with love
Nativity of the Lord

Quote:
"[T]he duties of active life did not prevent her from loving, and love did not prevent her from attending to those duties."
St. Alphonsus di Liguori, The Glories of Mary, (Tan Books), 474.

Meditation:
'Mary herself revealed to Saint Bridget, that in this world she never had any thought , desire, or joy, but in and for God: 'I thought,' she said, 'of nothing but God, nothing pleased me but God,' so that her blessed soul being in the almost continual contemplation of God while set on earth, the acts of love which she formed were innumerable, as Father Suarez writes: 'The acts of perfect charity formed by the Blessed Virgin in this life, were without number; for nearly the whole of her life was spent in contemplation, and in that state she constantly repeated acts of love.'"
St. Alphonsus di Liguori, The Glories of Mary, (Tan Bo

oks), 474.

Resolution:
St. Margaret Mary suggests
"Do everything through love and for love, making good use of the present moment, and do not be anxious of the future." In this way, it is possible to live an active life and at the same time to have a prayer life. Our Lady gives the perfect example.  Today, I will ask our Lady to help me do everything through love making good use of the present.

Marian Vow:
"For this reason the members of M.I.M. have the concrete scope of cultivating amidst daily duties the knowledge and love, the imitation and cult of the Immaculate Mediatrix, by means of prayer and meditation, of in-depth study of the mystery of Mary 'centered on the Immaculate Conception and universal Mediation', so that entire being and activity of the person consecrated to the Immaculate reflect in a living way, existentially, the Immaculate in her being, 'full of grace', and the universal Mediatrix in her activity for the salvation of mankind."
Marian Seraphic Pathways, Directory #10a

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.

POPE BENEDICT XVI: A priest is called not simply to function as the minister of Christ's grace, but to truly embody Christ's grace, which "requires that the priest progressively lose himself in Christ, participating in the mystery of his death and resurrection with his entire being -- intelligence, liberty, will and the offering of his own body."

REVIEW: A Light to the Nations: The Meaning and Future of the Catholic Church by Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.

ICN: Archbishop Nichols: "Make each day a prayer and pray for your priests"

During his homily Archbishop Vincent Nichols said: "One year ends and another begins. Today, in response to Pope Benedict XVI, we begin a Year for Priests. The Holy Father wants it to be a year in which we treasure our priests, in which we support them with our prayers, in which we thank them for their generosity and celebrate with them their anniversaries and the greatness of their calling."

He continued "For us priests, the Holy Father wants this to be a year for our renewal, in which we refresh in ourselves that initial fervour, that first great generosity with which we accepted our calling and threw ourselves into it. We may have lost some of that. We may occasionally feel weary or overburdened. This is a year for a new start."

Archbishop Nichols said: "The Holy Father has given us, as a patron for the year, St John Vianney, the Cure of Ars. He is a good model for us all. I say this because, above all else, he was a man of prayer and this Year for Priests must be based and built on prayer. After all prayer is the essence of priesthood."

Archbishop Nichols stressed: "Every baptised person shares in the priesthood of Christ. That means that we are to make our world holy. We do that, each one of us, by offering to the Lord the work of each day, allowing God to make it holy through us. A morning offering is the first act of a priestly people, of a people who prays. Without that our daily work can be no more than drudgery and unrelated to our faith. So make each day a prayer and pray for your priests.

"St John Vianney teaches us priests so many things: to be identified with the place to which we have been sent. That is still a struggle for me. To be dedicated to the work of reconciliation and of letting people know that our good Lord is always ready to receive us, to welcome us and to forgive us. He also teaches us priests to care for each other and to bring each other to the Lord, through mutual support and through mutual prayer."

Archbishop Nichols concluded: "I hope that this Year of Priests will bring great blessings to this wonderful Archdiocese of Birmingham.

SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #620

Some of the guards came into the city and told the chief priests all things that had been done. And they being assembled together with the ancients, taking counsel, gave a great sum of money to the soldiers, Saying: "Say you, His disciples came by night and stole him away when we were asleep. And if the governor shall hear of this, we will persuade him and secure you." So they taking the money, did as they were taught: and this word was spread abroad among the Jews even unto this day. (Matt. 28:11-15)

ONE SIN LEADS TO ANOTHER: The chief priests and scribes were not a little terrified when the soldiers came and told them of our Lord's Resurrection. The voice of their consciences cried to them: "He whom you have killed is, then, after all the Son of God! Do penance and believe in Him!" But they suppressed this inner voice and obeyed their wicked impulses. They hated Jesus, and resolved to prevent at any price the people from believing in Him; and therefore they bribed the soldiers to support them in their wicked lie, that the Body of Jesus had been stolen by His disciples.

YOU HOLD THE MIGHTY MEDICINE

God's Blue Book II Cover

March 6, 1994
sacred heart/art

Jesus: I am the Son of God. I have such longing for My beloved ones. Spread these messages. I grow tired of telling you, with such emotion--and who hears?
I am talking to you at this Center. I am talking to you! I am asking you to spread the message. You cannot wait. The souls of your brothers are thirsty for this ardent love. They roam this barren desert and find nowhere to lay their heads. If you speak this message, their souls will be fed.
You are the light set on a hill. Your fire will be that by which this world will be lighted. I am talking to you. No one is getting these messages to you. I, God, am speaking to you this very day. What will you do?
I want all to know of the fire of My love. I want their hearts to stir and come to Me with longing and devotion. You busy yourselves and the Son of God is speaking to you about His love.
I want to shake you to My ardent, urgent cry. They are so thirsty for this message. It is the appetite in their soul that craves this ardent union with Me. You possess that which they are craving.
The soul searches this barren desert, seeking as with no other appetite the love of God. You have the mighty medicine for the sickness the world is inflicting on My loved ones.
Who would keep medicine from the sick children? The children who come to you are diseased from this sick world. They are My army. They need their medicine. Every day the disease gets worse. They are coming to you for healing. You have the medicine. It is not lip service about My love. It is emotion that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, loves them so much as to write them letters of His love. It is emotion, love, heartfelt, longing, aching love!
Nothing feeds the starved soul but the love of Jesus. The world is so sick. Like ripples on a pond, one soul madly in love with My Sacred Heart is a powerhouse. One soul, fed by the love of the Sacred Heart, casts a mighty bright light, brighter than any other light because it is powered by God.
Light their hearts. Light the city. Shine on this hill. Send them into this world as the beacon lights in the darkest night. You are this city, set on the hill.
I am the Son of God. I come to you every day. I profess My longing, My loving. You tarry too much. You play a safe game. I am begging you to get My love letters to My beloved ones.
This world gets sicker by the minute. To live in this world is to be under constant attack. They need this ardent love of Mine to understand the attack. I am God. I come to you. I am talking to you. You are the receivers. You cannot wait for anyone's lead. No one can tell you what I, God, am telling you this very day.
While you wait, your children are getting sicker. These letters are for all, young and old alike. These letters are for priests and nuns. These letters speak to them wherever they are. This is the mighty medicine.
Too slow, I tell you! Some are dropping over from the disease. This is a sickness worse than any flu. It kills babies and loses men's souls. They are dying from this disease. The world is sending souls into hell. They are dying from the disease of this sick world. You hold the cure. You hold the key to turn men's hearts back to the love of God. You have hand-delivered letters from Jesus Christ and what do you do? I grow tired. I am upset. I am aching. I am begging you to listen. No one will knock on your door and say, "the time is right".
This is your act of faith. You know what one letter does to a person. You contain a book. When will you be ready? I grow tired. I am so upset. Soon is not soon enough. My children are dying from the disease. My babies are murdered. When will they know of My crying for their love?
I am the Son of God. I Am God! I come to you. I talk to you. If you believed I was talking to you, you would listen. I will not make this any clearer. It is your faith that will get you through. You must develop your faith in Me. To give you more signs than this is to make you weak. I have gi
ven you just what you need to get this job done.

Give My children their medicine. My church will be packed. People will stay when I, God, am in their breast after Communion. God is inside of you and you run from the church. Where do you go for your answers? Where do you go to be fed? "Give us this day our daily bread."
I, God, come to you in the Eucharist. I sit in your body and you do not relish these sacred moments. These are the most golden gems of your life when the Son of God comes to you and dwells in your breast.
I am alive. I am here with you. I am God. I have spoken again and do you hear? I am talking to you at the Center. This is My place to change this world. I am giving you all you need.
I love you. I am begging you. Jesus.

(2Ti 4:6-8) For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand. I have fought a good fight: I have finished my course: I have kept the faith. As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming. Make haste to come to me quickly.

IN THE NEWS:  Pope: Scientific analysis done on St. Paul's bones

The first-ever scientific tests on what are believed to be the remains of the Apostle Paul "seem to conclude" that they do indeed belong to the Roman Catholic saint, Pope Benedict XVI said Sunday.

Archaeologists recently unearthed and opened the white marble sarcophagus located under the Basilica of St. Paul's Outside the Walls in Rome, which for some 2,000 years has been believed by the faithful to be the tomb of St. Paul.

Benedict said scientists had conducted carbon dating tests on bone fragments found inside the sarcophagus and confirmed that they date from the first or second century.

"This seems to confirm the unanimous and uncontested tradition that they are the mortal remains of the Apostle Paul," Benedict said, announcing the findings at a service in the basilica to mark the end of the Vatican's Paoline year, in honor of the apostle.

Paul and Peter are the two main figures known for spreading the Christian faith after the death of Christ.

According to tradition, St. Paul, also known as the apostle of the Gentiles, was beheaded in Rome in the 1st century during the persecution of early Christians by Roman emperors. Popular belief holds that bone fragments from his head are in another Rome basilica, St. John Lateran, with his other remains inside the sarcophagus.

The pope said that when archaeologists opened the sarcophagus, they discovered alongside the bone fragments some grains of incense, a "precious" piece of purple linen with gold sequins and a blue fabric with linen filaments.

IN THE NEWS II: 'Oldest' image of St Paul discovered

Archaeologists have uncovered a 1,600 year old image of St Paul, the oldest one known of, in a Roman catacomb.

The fresco, which dates back to the 4th Century AD, was discovered during restoration work at the Catacomb of Saint Thekla but was kept secret for ten days.

During that time experts carefully removed centuries of grime from the fresco with a laser, before the news was officially announced through the Vatican's official newspaper L'Osservatore Romano.

There are more than 40 known Catacombs or underground Christian burial places across Rome and because of their religious significance the Vatican's Pontifical Commission of Sacred Archeology has jurisdiction over them.

A photograph of the icon shows the thin face of a bearded man with large eyes, sunken nose and face on a red background surrounded with a yellow circle – the classic image of St Paul.

The image was found in the Catacomb of St Thekla, close to the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls in Rome, which is said to be built on the site where he was buried.

Quote:
Acts of the Apostles 5:15-16
"Thus they even carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on cots and mats so that when Peter came by, at least his shadow might fall on one or another of
them. A large number of people from the towns in the vicinity of Jerusalem also gathered, bringing the sick and those disturbed by unclean spirits, and they were all cured."

Meditation:
St. Alphonsus di Liguori
"Saint Basil of Seleucia remarks, 'that if God granted to some who were only His servants such power, that not only their touch but even their shadows healed the sick, who were placed for this purpose in the public streets, how much greater power must we suppose that He has granted to her,  who was not only His handmaid but His Mother?
St. Alphonsus di Liguori, The Glories of Mary, (Tan Books), 95-96

Resolution:
Today, I will pray that my loved ones may have Our Lady's shadow fall upon them and heal them.

Marian Vow:
Is not one with the Marian Vow, constantly living in the shadow of Our Lady? I will remember my vow, and ask to be transubstantiated into the Immaculate.

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.

Mary, Our Blessed Mother, Speaks to Children

Dearest little children, I am your heavenly mother and I love you. I want to bring you to Jesus. I do that by helping you to understand the great love Jesus has for you. Many souls think of God as someone far away who is very busy with the business of heaven. This is not true. Jesus is God and Jesus is very busy looking after souls on earth. Jesus loves you most tenderly. Jesus loves you so much that He died on the cross for you. He died on the cross so that heaven's doors would be open to every boy and girl in the world. And heaven's doors are open to you, little child. We wait for you to come to heaven so that you will be happy forever. I want you to know that each soul makes mistakes on earth. That is why Jesus chose to die for you. He knew you would make mistakes. He wanted to be certain that there was enough forgiveness for each mistake made by every person. Never worry about your mistakes. Even the greatest saints made many mistakes. You say you are sorry to Jesus and Jesus forgives you for your mistake and He forgets about your mistake. Sometimes children think that they are bad because they have made mistakes and this is simply not true. I am your heavenly mother and I look into your little heart and I see such goodness. You can do great things for Jesus if you try to do your best. Will you do that for me? Try to be good and all will be well.
