Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear Children!  Today I call you especially now to advance against Satan by means of prayer.  Satan wants to work still more now that you know he is at work. Dear children, put on the armor for battle and with the Rosary in your hand defeat him!  Thank you for having responded to my call." (August 8, 1985)

During our internet Rosaries lately, Denis and I have been picking out random messages from Our Lady to read between the decades.  Several of those messages in the past two days have contained warnings from Our Lady about Satan.  She has definitely not been shy about mentioning him publicly.  She wants her children to understand that we have an enemy who hates us and will try anything to destroy us.

In this message from 1985, Our Lady mentions "the armor for battle."  Clearly she is referring to Ephesians 6: 10-18.

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world ruler of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand.  Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the equipment of the gospel of peace; above all taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.  Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.  To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints..."

St. Paul was not shy about naming the devil publicly either!  Who is our real enemy?  Not our rival at work, not our critic at school, not our competitor in business, no other human person.  Our real enemy is Satan.  He is behind all the division, the violence, the hatred, the broken relationships.  He is the one who hates all mankind - he and his minions.

I was wondering about the armor itself that Our Lady mentions and St. Paul describes.  I would like to connect St. Paul's armor with Our Lady's key messages.  I think they must be connected and it may help us to flesh out how to put on the armor of God!  Tomorrow we will begin.  For now, let's keep our Rosaries in our hands, as Our Lady asks us!

In Jesus and Mary!

PS.  Yesterday, I mistakenly attributed the picture to Diane Freeby.  It was actually a picture taken by Bernard Gallagher.  Thank you, Bernard for all your beautiful pictures!!  They really capture the beauty of Medjugorje and the Spirit of God so abundantly present there!
