St. John I, Pope

Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children, again today I call you to consecrate your life to me with love, so that I can guide you with love." (November 27, 1986)

Today is the birthday of Blessed John Paul II.

He was born on this day in 1920.  We can give thanks for his birth into this world, because with his coming we were blessed.  God was able to give so much to us, the Church, through him.  We stand in awe at the great legacy of love and faith he bequeathed to us.

Today, again, I would like to share the wonderful prayer of consecration to Mary that Blessed John Paul II wrote.  It is so pure and simple, so powerful!

Totus Tuus (totally yours),
Immaculate Conception, Mary my Mother, Live in me, Act in me,
Speak in me and through me,
Think your thoughts in my mind,
Love through my heart,
Give me your dispositions and feelings,
Teach, lead me and guide me to Jesus,
Correct, enlighten and expand my thoughts and behavior,
Possess my soul,
Take over my entire personality and life, replace it with Yourself,
Incline me to constant adoration,
Pray in me and through me,
Let me live in you and keep me in this union always.

If we pray these words throughout our day, we will be transformed!  If we allow Our Lady to live in us, she will bring to us the vitality of heaven.  We will feel her strength coursing through our veins, empowering us to perform acts of love with ease!
If we allow Mary to speak in us we will hear her gentle, comforting voice quietly encouraging us to new faith, hope and love.  And if she speaks through us, that same faith, hope and love will reach the ears of our families and friends, encouraging them in turn.

If we allow her to think her thoughts in our minds, we will be filled with awe and wonder, for her thoughts are always focused on the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, our mysterious and all holy God.  We will not have time for our own thoughts which are usually centered on this world and its cares.  Her thoughts will be all prayers!  What a difference that could make in us.

If we allow her to love through our hearts....well, we can only imagine how our relationships would be changed for the better.

If we allow her to gives us her dispositions and feelings we will find ourselves in heaven.  Filled with compassion, joy, understanding, peace, good will, we might think we had died and gone to heaven!

If we allow her to teach, lead and guide us to Jesus, we will be responding to the message given above.  This kind of leading and guiding requires an open ear, an obedient ear.  She would lead us into a new life, a life of love and service.  We would no longer be our own guide.  That might actually be a relief!

If we allow Mary to correct, enlighten and expand our thoughts and behavior, we will be well on our way to humility and right thinking.  We all see things darkly here on earth, but she sees in the full light of day.  Her correction is welcome!

If we allow her to possess our souls we will no longer fear the aggressive hatred of our enemy, who would love to possess us himself.  If Our Lady takes us under her protection, we will be safe.  We can rest knowing she has placed us under her dominion.

Again, we ask Mother Mary to take over our entire personality and life and replace it with her life and personality.  Such an exchange sounds impossible.  But I take it to be an exchange of hearts, so that she takes our heart and we receive hers.  In her heart we find all the treasures of heaven, and they are at our disposal in this dark journey in the world.  With her heart's treasures we can make the journey to heaven, for we will have all we need to meet the challenges of life.

Under Our Lady's influence we will be inclined to adoration, for this is her life, to adore her Son. And if she prays in us and through us, we will live a constant adoration!  Our prayers (actually her prayers) will be powerful because they are in complete union with the Holy Spirit, perfect intercession.

And finally, if we live in Our Lady and we are united to her, all of the above will happen naturally! We want to be in her because she is our Mother and our Advocate and our Guide!

Thank you, Blessed John Paul II for teaching us how to live our consecration to Mary!  Thank you for showing us how to live the consecration by your life! Thank you for praying for us too!  Thank you!

In Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and Blessed John Paul II,
