The Black Madonna of Czestochowa is world famous. Each year more than 3 million pilgrims flock to the city of 250,000 in southern Poland where the 1991 World Youth Days took place. It is believed that the famous icon of the Madonna was painted by the Apostle Luke himself. The icon is located in the convent of the Pauline Fathers, on the hill of Jasna Góra (“the illuminated mountain”).

Tradition tells us that through Our Lady’s intercession an invading Swedish army was defeated in 1655 near the city. In recognition, King Jan Kazimierz proclaimed the Virgin Mary "Queen of Poland."

Today, the Black Madonna of Czestochowa and the Jasna Góra monastery are still symbols of freedom and independence to the Polish people. Pilgrimages to Czestochowa had a special meaning at the time of the partition of Poland between Russia and Prussia, but also under the Nazi occupation and the communist regime.

The Lumberjack and the Scapular - A Moment with Mary

The Lumberjack and the Scapular

 Wikipedia

Towards the end of the 19th century, Bishop Polding, a missionary, was crossing a desert in Australia, when he fell ill. He was nursed back to health by a widow. When the bishop recovered, he promised the woman to come administer the last rites to her in person when she would be close to death. Many years later, the prelate was told that the widow was dying and was calling for him.

It took the bishop several days of walking before he arrived at the widow’s house. But he found the house empty. An Irish lumberjack who was working nearby explained that the woman couldn’t wait and had been taken to see another priest.

The bishop then turned to the Irishman: "Well, my good man, I don’t want to have come for nothing. Why don’t you kneel down, and I will hear your confession." The man had not confessed his sins for years. He hesitated, but then agreed to confess. He received absolution and promised to go to communion the following Sunday.

No sooner had Bishop Polding left him than he heard a crashing sound, followed by groans. Returning in haste, he found his penitent crushed under a tree, dead... Under his jacket was found the scapular of the Virgin Mary: the good Mother had not allowed him to die before being reconciled with God...

May 2, 2015 Message from Our Lady of Medjugorje

(c)Mary TV 2015
A sea of umbrellas hides thousands of pilgrims, who wait for the Gospa on May 2!!

J.M.J.
Dear Family of Mary!

Here is the message given through Mirjana today, May 2, 2015:

Dear children, open your hearts and try to feel how much I love you and how much I desire for you to love my Son. I desire for you to come to know him all the better, because it is impossible to know him and not to love him - because he is love.

I, my children, know you. I know your pain and suffering because I lived through them. I laugh with you in your joy and I cry with you in your pain. I will never leave you. I will always speak to you with motherly tenderness.

And I, as a mother, need your open hearts to spread the love of my Son with wisdom and simplicity. I need you to be open and sensitive to the good and mercy. I need you to be united with my Son, because I desire for you to be happy and to help me to bring happiness to all of my children. My apostles, I need you to show everyone the truth of God, so that my heart, which suffered and today suffers so much pain, can win in love.

Pray for the holiness of your shepherds, so that in the name of my Son they could work miracles, because holiness works miracles. Thank you.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Cathy Nolan

May 2015 Monthly Message from Anne, a lay apostle

Direction for Our Times

We continue our cycle of monthly messages for 2015 with the message from May 1, 2007 for our prayer groups and personal reflection.

Jesus

My apostles, I speak to you with such hope. Why do I feel hope when I speak these words? I, Jesus, feel hope because you are reading these words and listening to Me.  In your soul, you are interested in My plan. In your soul you are willing to make the changes which will bring about My plan. In your soul you receive a foretaste of heaven which provides you with the joy that I wish to make available to others. My heavenly plan is truly rooted in your soul and for this reason I have hope. The times in which you live provide you with opportunities to practice hope, even while much of the world feels dismay and fear. My apostles see that the world is changing and this is the message, a message of hope, which flows through them. You are precious to Me, both because of the unique love I have for you and for the unique plan I have for you. Allow Me to rest in your soul each day and I will fill you with My love. Where can you find more silence? How can you give Me  just a few more minutes of time to be with you and sanctify you even further? My beloved apostle, please be disciplined about your time with Me in each day. I do not want you to be distracted. I do not want the world to take your hope from you. If you do not spend time with Me, you are vulnerable to the fears sown by the enemy of hope. I rely on my beloved ones. In them I find rest and solace. You see, dear apostle, if I can change you and fill you with My great spiritual blessings, I can change others. Is there even one life that you can say you affected by your faith in Me and by My presence in you? Do not limit My plan in your mind. My plan is vast and it is working. Be joyful today as I am joyful. Hope in Me, dear one, as I hope in you. Trust in Me as I trust in you. Be with Me as I long to be with you and together we will fill the world with hope, drawing many wounded souls back into our family of love.

Caught up by the mystery of the Incarnation - A Moment with Mary

Caught up by the mystery of the Incarnation

On March 18, 2009, in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Pope Benedict XVI dedicated his homily to Joseph, his patron saint. Addressing all members of God’s people, the pope concluded by saying that in Joseph there is "no separation between faith and action":
St Joseph with the Infant Jesus (c. 1635), at ...

"Our meditation on the human and spiritual journey of Saint Joseph invites us to ponder his vocation in all its richness, and to see him as a constant model for all those who have devoted their lives to Christ in the priesthood, in the consecrated life or in the different forms of lay engagement.

Joseph was caught up at every moment by the mystery of the Incarnation... Joseph reveals to us the secret of a humanity which dwells in the presence of mystery and is open to that mystery at every moment of everyday life. In Joseph, faith is not separated from action.

His faith had a decisive effect on his actions. Paradoxically, it was by acting, by carrying out his responsibilities, that he stepped aside and left God free to act, placing no obstacles in his way. Joseph is a “just man” (Mt 1:19) because his existence is “ad-justed” to the Word of God.”

O God, who in Thine unspeakable providence didst vouchsafe to choose blessed Joseph to be the spouse of Thine own most holy Mother: grant, we beseech Thee, that we may deserve to have him for our intercessor in heaven, whom we reverence as our defender on earth: who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.
